Scottish chest, Circa 1890, Flame mahogany, Barley twist columns, Large drawers, Turned wooden knobs, Mother of pearl inlay, Age splits to top, Consistent wear throughout, One knob broken, Overall very sturdy, This flame mahogany Scottish chest of drawers was made around 1890. We purchased it in England and imported it to our antique furniture store in Atlanta. GA. This hand made chest displays all of the wonderful characteristics that make Scottish chests so popular and useful. There is a"not so obvious" drawer at the very top over three deep, serpentine front drawers over three long drawers providing a huge amount of storage. The barley twist columns on either side give some elegance to the simple lines of this chest. The drawer pulls are a turned wooden knob with a mother of pearl inlay in the center. One of the knobs is missing about a quarter of the knob, but the mother of pearl inlay in the center is intact. All drawers are joined with hand cut dovetailed joints. All of the drawers also have locks but there is no key for this chest. The top of the chest has a few cosmetic age splits and there is consistent wear throughout the chest. This wear is mainly superficial surface dings etc. Overall the chest is quite sturdy and in good condition for its age. It would make a warm addition to any home or office. The seven drawers provide a huge amount of storage space. The barley twist columns are a wonderful addition to this elegant look. The turned knobs have a mother of pearl inlay. The drawers feature hand cut dovetails. You can see an example of some of the wear around the bun feet. The top of the chest has some minor age separations. This close up better shows the minor age separations in this part of the top.

Gentleman's Antique Victorian Chest of Drawers - Local PickUp Only
Purchased this item at an estate sale so I don't know the origin of this piece. Measures 32" W x 19" D x 44 1/2" H(49" in back) I do know that the craftsmanship is phenomenal and the fit and finish is beautiful. The piece is in average condition with some scratches and wood chipped off in places. I'm guessing the extra compartment on top was a jewelry box. The wheels are made of wood suggesting it is very old indeed. The handcarved overlays are awesome. Two drawer handles are missing. Gorgeous carved solid walnut Gentleman's 6 drawer dresser chest original finish
This is a beautiful example of a Gentleman's dresser or chest. Early Victorian era and style. The sides and front of the dresser are solid walnut, as are the dove-tailed drawer fronts. With the added beauty of burled walnut oval panels. The black and brass teardrop drawer pulls are old and not reproduction, but not original to the piece. There probably was either a tw o- post earlier brass handle or a carved pull. T he finish is original. It has two vanity boxes on top. And the dresser is finished off with a small wood pediment bet ween the vanity boxes. I estimate this chest to be from the 1880's. Which makes it one hundred and thirty years old. It has had very good care throughout its' life. And is in excellent condition, with just wear due to age and usage. The burl veneer is all intact. None missing-which is incredible for ... moreits' age! There is one slightly lighter ring on the top and a few scratches on the bottom panel. But nothing noticeable. There are four drawers-the two in the center are slightly less deep and the top and bottom ones are a little deeper. Due to the design of the chest. There are carved and turned supports up the front corners of each side. Ending in a spoon-carved small corbel on either side. This piece has more character than most of the Victorian dressers I've seen and was probably a high-end piece in its' day. There is a key that came with the dresser, that fits the locks-but, they won't turn, for the most part. So, it could be made to lock, but, at the moment, it won't. The brass locks are all there. The measurements are: 41 inches wide by 47 inches high by 17 inches deep. I am happy to take and send more photos. If you are interested. The dresser can be picked-up. The reason we call it country is because of the little spindle spools on the side. The round walnut knobs, and just the sweet simplicity of the whole piece, but it is made of walnut. It comes with the original backsplash, ogee beveled edge top, all original knobs, and every drawer has a lock, but no key. It is incredibly clean, especially for a piece of this age. The overall size is 29.5 inches wide, 15.5 inches deep, the backsplash is 4 inches high, and the dresser base is 29 inches high, for an overall height of 33 inches. Very handsome Gentleman's Chest in the Eastlake style. Solid marble top! Made of Walnut with Cherry drawers. 6 drawers. Bottom two are side by side and have locks with key. On iron casters for easy mobility. Very ornate Maple leaf carving on the top. Has been appraised with an online service. Original owner is unknown. But for the time period they must have been well to do. Was purchased at an auction in the 1960's by my Grandfather in Kansas. Has been in my family ever since. A couple small veneer chips as is normal on these old dressers. The original finish is gorgeous. It once had a mirror that sat on top as there are two holes in the glove box top as seen in photos where the stand would have sat. INCREDIBLE WALNUT GENTLEMAN'S CHEST OR HIGHBOY CIRCA 1880 STUNNING HARDWARE
This is an incredible walnut 11 drawer gentlemen's chest or highboy circa 1880. I think the chest is European but I can't decide. The chest is quite tall at 63" 43 1/2" wide, and 20 3/4" deep. All hardware is original and outstanding. The finish has a wonderful aged patina. The chest needs 7 drawer stops and a small piece of trim attached. The top appears to have had a gallery of some sort at one time. Shipping can be arranged to most parts of the country and local pick up is always welcomed. Email with any questions. 53581 NTIQUE 1820 FEDERAL MAHOGANY GENTLEMAN BOW FRONT CHEST OF DRAWERS
A very beautiful antique. Circa 1820, late Federal mahogany bow front gentleman's chest of drawers. The solid mahogany front corner posts legs are fluted and spooled, brass knobs on top drawers, four graduated drawers with original American spread eagle oval brass pulls. The stripped mahogany veneer drawer fronts have string inlay. Nice serpentine skirt around. Pine secondary woods. It measures 46-1/2" tall by 43" wide by 20-3/4" deep. Very good condition: original finish, some finish wear spots on top surfaces. Both side panels with shrinkage cracks, front left foot with crack glue repairs. Includes the key, brass keyholes, and all locks(oddly the lowest drawer never had a lock.
