Late 1800's Curly Maple Woman's Victorian Dresser with Oval Beveled Mirrors
This beautiful dresser is in servicable condition. Original beveled mirrors intact. No cracks. Center mirror swivels vertically. It is believed that the drawer hardware is original. It does not appear that it was ever refinished and therefore has a lovely patina. There are some scratches, slight warpage and small imperfections on the top surface. I bought this 35 years ago and at the time the maker's name and'1896' was faintly handwritten on the back. But the lettering has disappeared over time. Please ignore the look of the mirrors as an attempt was made to blur out the reflections. The mirrors provide a clear image. Dresser is available for inspection before bidding. Welcome to our ebay sales! ITEM DESCRIPTION: For your consideration is an Art Nouveau shaving stand with mirror. Circa 1880. The mirror is housed in a large solid maple frame with a curly maple base. The compartment on the base has a hinged lid and is lined with brown felt. The only veneer on the shaving stand is the 2" curved strip around the front of the compartment. Shaving stand has the original brass latches, as shown in the pictures below. Exceptional piece! SIZE: Shaving stand is 32-3/8" wide at the base and 27-1/2" tall. It is 26" wide to the outer edges of the harp and the mirror itself is 21-1/2" x 18-1/4" The base is 8" deep and 3" high. CONDITION: There are a couple very minor gliltches. But overall, the shaving stand is in excellent condition. There is a small chip along the front edge(see ... morecloseup) that is probably as old as the stand and is under the varnish. The black marks on the base appear to be a stain in the wood. There are no cracks or splits in the wood and there is no real damage to the stand. It does not appear that it was ever refinished and therefore has a lovely patina. There are some scratches, slight warpage and imperfections on the top surface consistent with the age of the item. Sometimes the drawers can be a little balky sliding them in and out. I bought this 36 years ago and at the time the maker's name and'1896' was faintly handwritten on the back. But the lettering has disappeared over time. Please ignore the look of the mirrors as an attempt was made to blur out the reflections. The mirrors provide a clear image. Due to size and delicacy. This 1830's shimmering curly or"tiger" grain maple chest or dresser is beautiful. Entirely hand crafted. Drawers have hand cut dovetails. Fluted columns, hand planing marks and chamfered drawer bottoms are authentic. The finish is in excellent condition with golden patina on this American made furniture. The top is three wide boards of solid curly maple with gorgeous natural grain. A key works the top center drawer for jewelry. The other locks do not work reliably. Up for bid is this late Victorian 4 drawer dresser with swivel matching mirror. Curved lines make it somewhat feminine. But this was the style for that time for both genders. The mirror can be removed for shipping or transport. Drawers are dove-tailed. Hardware appears original. No serious issues other than wear consistent with age. Every aspect is tight. Curly maple wood is typically used for gun stocks. To have an entire dresser made from it? Quite unusual! There are no issues. Drawers are deep. Tall and hold lots!
