A very special piece! My mother has moved from the family home to a much smaller condo and sadly doesn't have room for several family treasures. This flame mahogany American Empire-style dresser. Estimated to have been made in the 1850s, is gorgeous. The dresser's mirror-image crotch-grain mahogany is absolutely beautiful, a hallmark of quality in fine furniture construction. The curved front is lovely, as are the carved backboard and skirt. The finish on the front, sides, and top is glossy; the back is unfinished. All six drawers work perfectly and are outfitted with mushroom-turned wooden knobs. My parents originally purchased this dresser from an antiques dealer in upstate New York and it's been in their smoke-free household for more than 50 years. No maker's mark is evident. It is in very good condition with some nicks, ... morescratches, etc. that are visible in photos. A small interior rail for one drawer is missing but it does not seem to affect operation of the drawer. Very hard to describe and categorize but we have attempted. A very beautiful chest of drawers with a six paned window top plus mirror and is a true antique! Chest of Drawers Bottom: Burled Cherry Veneer Drawer Fronts Handcut dovetailed drawers with chamfered panel poplar bottoms and interior woods. Step back center section. 3 burled cherry veneer drawer fronts with hand cut dovetailed drawers with chamfered panel poplar bottoms. 4 Cherry turned legs at the base– replaced. Half turn columns on the front. Cherry Knobs– replaced. Some minor restoration to the veneer front. All Cherry Sides. Case 41 inches wide. Top 43 inches wide and 21 ½ inches deep and 46 inches tall. Top: 2 Mortise and ... moretenon doors. 6 individual paned windows with original glass, cherry sides, center swivel mirror(older replaced mirror) with cherry crown moulding with burled cherry venner over it on the top. Cubby holes on the interior; total of four small hand cut dovetailed drawers. The top is not flush with the back wall. Steps out 2 ½ inches from the wall. Centered on the center section. Mortise and tenon jointed through the top and does not come off. 8 inches deep case width. 36 inches, crown moulding with 41 inches wide by 10 ½ deep and height is 32 inches. Overall Dimensions: 41 inches wide at its crown by 21 ½ inches at its deepest. Overall Height 78 ½ inches. It has been totally restored and everything is in good working order. Antique Hardwood Cottage Chest with 6 Drawers
This is an Antique. All original hardwood cottage dressers with 6 drawers and a storage area with door. The piece is hand painted in off whites and grayish colors with hand painted greens and orange floral prints. The piece is a true antique, held together with the dovetail method that was used during that time period, the 1800s to early 1900s area. The handles are antique black with white knobs that hangs down loosely. The colored paint and floral prints are still in very good condition, but the white foundation paint looks rather distressed with some discolorations that have occurred over time. However, with a good paint job, you can turn this into an amazing one of a kind piece. Or, if you like distressed furniture, you can leave it just the way it is. The serpentine front is framed by corner full round columns having carved Egyptian capitols, the front feet carved claws. Original oval brass pulls, oval brass escutcheons with all locks, no key. Drawer interiors are maple dark stained mahogany. Chest measures 5' 60" tall by 3'5" 41" wide by 22" deep. An antique. Circa 1890's- 1900's, light olive painted hardwood Louis XVI style chest of drawers. There are applied laurel and berry, bellflowers, rosettes, and bandings. Five of the drawers retain the original gilt metal pulls, escutcheons, and locks, the top drawer with new replaced brass knobs, missing the lock, no key. Drawer interiors of oak. The top has a polished, beveled, beautiful mottled marble slab. Chest measures 56" tall by 34" wide by 19" deep. Very good condition: original paint finish with minor flakes, no cracks or chips to case boards. Marble very fine.
