It is framed in silver and has wood shavings and carvings enclosed within transparent mica. The details are astonishing. The wood is probably from Jerusalem, and the ancient writing on the back is likely Greek. The wood shavings are inside because those who would make pilgrimages to the Holy Land would buy these. The crosses were from the area of the mount of Olives where Jesus was crucified. Therefore, the wood was considered miraculous and sacred and these crosses were considered so sacred that it was sacrilege and a sin to throw any of the shavings out as though they were from any ordinary wood. Early 3rd-5th century AD Judaea-Palestine Terracotta oil lamp from the Holy Land. Measurements: Length: 10 cm- Width: 6 cm- Height: 3 cm This large'slipper-type' oil lamp is detailed with raised linear and pellet patterns. With small rectangular handle. Very fine condition. Complete with no repairs. Slipper lamps are oval shaped and found mainly in the Levant. They were produced between the 3rd to 9th centuries CE. Decorations include vine scrolls. Palm wreaths, and Greek letters. The upper and lower parts were molded separately and then joined together by hand. Archaeologists divide slipper-lamps into two groups: small and large. The former averages 8 cm in length and 5 cm in width. The latter usually has a standard length of about 9.5 cm and a width of 6.3 cm.

It has been hand cut into a sparkling, brilliant, faceted trillion cut semi-precious gemstone with lots of flash and depth. As you can see, this is an exceptionally good quality gemstone. Certainly to the eye it is nothing less than perfect, it is truly a beautiful, sumptuous, and regal-sized semi-precious gemstone. Though both pink and red topaz occur naturally in Siberia. It generally tends to be a bit lighter in shade than is the case with this specimen. So I suspect that it’s probably been heat-treated to achieve such a dark red color.
