Authentic"hired man's bed" also referred to as an under the eaves bed. Recently given a new upholstered mattress done in robust fabric that cleans with a quick wipe. The supporting slats are ship lap(not original) and provide firm seating. Dimensions are 74" long x 22' wide x 14" high at the rail and 22" high at each arm. Mattress is 4" thick foam which makes seated height about 16" A versatile piece that will appreciate with the years. I'm unsure of the wood species; appears to be mahogany or maple. Medium brown with a golden patina. Some nicks and nails show from an old repair and you can see that in the pictures. Turned spindles and legs are solid as in no rickety sway. Mechanism clean and swivels up and down easily. The seat has a diameter of about 14 3/8" If you need another measurement of any kind just let me know. The glass balls have some wear that one might expect with something of this age that has been well cared for. Glass feet intact, not crushed or broken. The Seat has some slight wood separation where it was joined together due to age but it's not loose or anything, normal for something this age. In my opinion this is in great shape especially when you consider it's age, one of the better looking ones I have seen. Part of the original directions label remains; is dry and brittle from age. c. 1890- 1900 The seat has a pierced hole design. Due to age and storage the seat is rippled and has splits. 4 wood sections comprise the frame of the seat. There are 2 cracks located next to where two of the sections meet. ANTIQUE HAND MADE WOODEN PLANT STAND
This is an old handmade wooden plant stand. Likely American, which we believe was probably made in the early 20th century. It is 26 ½” in height. The hexagonal top measures 10” across at the widest point and the diameter of the base is about 11 ½” all measurements approximate) The stand weighs approximately 4 lbs. The stand is in good used condition. We’re not sure what woods were used. Perhaps pine. The age of the piece shows in the slight dishing of the top due to dehydration as the wood has shrunk across the grain over time. This happens in all older wooden pieces to a greater or lesser degree. The top has some surface cracking along the grain(they don’t go through) due to the same reason and there is a ring impression(not a water ring) but an actual shallow depression from supporting a heavy pot over the years. We see no repairs ... moreto the piece. Being hand made. This plant stand borders on the rustic but it is not a primitive piece. The form is much too graceful for that. The form is the plant stand’s chief attraction and justifiably so. We’ve never seen this form(especially the legs) in a plant stand before; probably because it may be one of a kind and not mass produced. The trunk of the item is also a hexagon like the top. The long legs are delicate in design with spurred knees and unusual spurred and tapered feet. Indeed, the stand appears to be standing of its’ toes much like ballerina. Perhaps some overall wear to the material on the top- but no wear through areas or really any visible indications of wear. I've no idea when the beautiful embroidered cover was made for the top. I believe the stool is most likely all wood under the cover. The cover is stapled onto the wood on the under side. A couple of the legs will wiggle if you pull on them. Dimensions: 13" diameter x 3-1/2" high(330mm x 89mm) This pair of unique footstools is 19thC Victorian. With mahogany bases in solid condition. The colour is darker on one of the footstools and a little lighter on the other one. A few hairline scratches but the finish is semi-gloss and in great condition. The hand-stitched needlepoint is done in wool yarn and glass beads. The background colour is a soft magenta and one footstool is a little darker than the other one. Around the edge. The colour is purple. All the beadwork flowers are multi-coloured. And there are some missing stitches, but the fabrics are solid. The footstools have the same bases. Same sizes but the floral designs are different; however, they are definitely a pair and would be a very special addition to one's interior. Beautiful. Elegant Antique High-back Piano/Organ Stool Up for auction is my grandparents' antique ball-eagle-claw-foot high back Windsor Victorian piano stool. This stunning& elegant Victorian-era piano stool has 4 shapely turned legs with gorgeous ribbing finished with the magnificent ball eagle claw feet. Beautifully turned spindle stretchers secure the legs to the centerpiece pedestal. Original finish. Still in great condition. A true work of art and quality craftsmanship. Dating from about 1870 to 1900. A swivel adjustable stool with original ball and claw feet was made to use with a piano or organ. I do not know the exact hardwood, my best guess is it is solid mahogany. The finish is in excellent condition meaning there are no chips or scuffs* I believe it is American-made. It looks like Charles Parker, however I cannot find ... moremanufacturer's name on it so it could be custom made by an independent craftsman. Sorry, I just do not know since I am not an expert on antiques such as this. Please note: There are a couple of cracks that are visible in the finish(upper back of chair/right and left side) But chair is completely intact and secure. I do not know the origin of these imperfections- not sure if this is a hairline along a seam, or something to do with the way chair was made, or if the chair fell over at one time. Chair is still sturdy and although these hairlines look prominent in the pictures, you really have to look pretty hard at it to see them. Also please see pic of pedestal base of chair seat. There is a gap in the seam that does not affect sturdiness of chair, but cosmetically you may want to glue/repair. This is a beauty. It has I believe cast iron claw feet. The wood on the seat has an age crack but not bad. With the seat all the way down, the bench measures 19" tall and the seat is 14" wide. This has resulted all these years later in a stool with a gorgeous soft rich warm colour and patination that can only be attained by beech of this age and quality. Thirdly are the proportions. It measures 16 1/2" in length. 10" in width at the widest part and 4 1/4" in height. It is hand painted blue flowers. There are some fine lines in the flowers painted in black. The piece is signed on the back by the artist. the condition is really good considering the age. There are a few chips that look as though they have been there for many years. there are no cracks or crazing in the glaze. This can be used in so many ways other than it's original purpose. The stool is very solid and adjust in height from 19 1/2" 25" and has a 14 1/2" diameter seat. The glass balls on the feet are free of anh cracks and chips. The stool has had the seat reglued and overall refinished at some point in its past and surfaces have a smooth sealed finish. There is a color variation on the base of the stool. Almost looks like shadowing in the finish, not sure what it is but it does look nice. I took lots of pictures of different sides so you can see. THIS IS A WONDERFUL WILLIAM IV MAHOGANY METAMORPHIC STOOL AND LIBRARY STEPS. THE PIECE IS ENGLISH AND DATES TO APPROXIMATELY 1830-40. WHEN FOLDED UP AND USED AS A STOOL. THE PIECE MEASURES 28-1/4"h x 16"w x 11-1/2"d. THE PIECE CONVERTS TO A SET OF LIBRARY STEPS, WHICH MEASURE 28-1/4"h x 16"w x 20-1/2"d. THE BOTTOM TWO STEPS ARE INSET WITH THEIR ORIGINAL PANEL OF BROWN GILT TOOLED LEATHER. AT SOME POINT, THE SECOND STEP HAS BEEN REINFORCED WITH A METAL PLATE. Unique and nice antique day bed. Almost a Hitchcock style by the design on the end arms. Measures 90" long. By 32" wide at frame. Cushion is 28" across; height is 30" Comes apart for easy transport.
