BASSETT FURNITURE IND Vintage Bedroom Dressers +Nightstands BLACK JAPANESE STYLE
This is a group from a set of Bassett Furniture in the Japanese style. There are 4 main items: 1 tall and 1 wide dresser. Plus 2 nightstands. The drawers have dovetails in all 4 corners. Handles/Hardware is brass(most likely) The tall one(48" x 40" x 20" features a double tall drawer about 11 inches high. One smaller drawer has a veneer chip outside(see closeup photo for that) 2 upper drawers in the wide dresser(32" x 60" x 20" have felt inside. Glass for the tops to protest them is included for 3 of them(not one nightstand) Nightstands are 22.5" x 23" x 16" I found no heavy scratches. All I rate good to very good. Including the finish on these. Smaller flaws as expected. Nice vintage group. No loose or wobbly drawers. I found no noticeable cracks. This is a danish modern mid century end side table that was designed by Henning Kjaernulf for Vejle Stole Mobelfabrik of Denmark. We purchased this at a house full of great modern furniture. They had some Dunbar. A few Eames chairs and some Paul McCobb. It is modular and breaks down nicely and will be taken apart to ship. It measures approximately 25" long x 17 1/2" wide x 20" tall. It has a Vejle Stole Mobelfabrik, Made in Denmark stamp on the underneath. It has wear appropriate to age and use and the top does have some staining as you can see in the pictures. Vintage Stag Furniture C Range Three Drawer Dresser Stag Furniture John and Sylvia Reid In the years following the Second World War. John and Sylvia Reid were at the forefront of British mid-century modern design. They were employed as design consultants by Stag. The mass-market furniture manufacturer, and went on to design some iconic modern pieces. The first project John and Sylvia Reid did for Stag was a bedroom suite called Cumberland. Or the `C` range, which was strikingly minimalist. They took functionalist principles to their logical conclusion and designed a range of furniture that was cheap to mass produce. But was of high quality. There was no pretense that this new furniture was handmade by craftsmen; it was built by machine and was meant to look like it. The units were stark. Simply decorated, and recessed hand grips replaced ... morehandles on drawers and cupboards. Stag advertised these pieces as being for"the young in heart and in pocket" indeed.
