It is flanked with stop fluted columns ending in circular shelves with gallery and gilding. The bottom part features a light brown leather hinged lift top compartment used for storage and decorated with brass nail heads. This part can be used as a a foot stool when sitting in front of the mirror. There are also four drawer cabinets on each ... moreside beneath a leather top that has a sliding shelf covered in green felt and decorated in gold tooling. The whole vanity mirror is decorated with incised gilding and raised on four strong ball feet. This is an oversized elaborate mirror which can be used as a vanity. In a music r oom. It was love at first sight when I met this Bureau/ Chest of Drawers. Circa 1890.needing to be loving restored to a majestic chest once again. I lovingly and meticulously restored this chest from top to bottom. Respecting it as the wonderful antique treasure it is.You can easily see it is a"chest on chest" style. It features beautiful walnut veneers and solid walnut woods. The solid brass hardware is all original and very intricate. Stunning really. I buffed it back to full glory. The lower drawers have a carving which outlines all the lower drawers together(see photo)There is a very small squiggle in the carving(close up photo) which was done by the maker on the lower drawer, it adds great character. No one has ever noticed it until I pointed it out to them. All of the drawers& glides/runners have been fully restored and slide ... moreexcellent. The Sheraton style legs with fluted corner posts enhance the lines of this chest.I restored the finish using many. Many coats of hand rubbed satin varnish which bringing out the gorgeous walnut grains. Built like a tank from all hardwood construction. I custom made the small piece of walnut trim in front of the backsplash.The two small doors are a very unique feature. I installed new magnetic catches for the doors. All of the drawers feature lock and keyed dovetail joinery. Strong, solid and secure displaying the finest craftsmanship by the maker. I restored the inside of all the drawers with the same hand rubbed satin finish as the exterior of the chest.The drawer bottoms are rich& beautiful grained mahogany. Like any fine antique.You will find character marks and minor imperfections in the this piece, such as nick, dings, filled holes, they add character and patina to this wonderful chest. A very special piece! My mother has moved from the family home to a much smaller condo and sadly doesn't have room for several family treasures. This flame mahogany American Empire-style dresser. Estimated to have been made in the 1850s, is gorgeous. The dresser's mirror-image crotch-grain mahogany is absolutely beautiful, a hallmark of quality in fine furniture construction. The curved front is lovely, as are the carved backboard and skirt. The finish on the front, sides, and top is glossy; the back is unfinished. All six drawers work perfectly and are outfitted with mushroom-turned wooden knobs. My parents originally purchased this dresser from an antiques dealer in upstate New York and it's been in their smoke-free household for more than 50 years. No maker's mark is evident. English Regency 6 Drawer Chest Dresser, Egyptian Motifs, Mahogany, ~1820 Antique
This is an English. Circa 1820, six drawer chest or dresser. It is made with thick, bookmatched mahogany veneer over pine, double raised panel sides, and fluted columns resting on strong spade feet. The original Egyptian Revival gilt brasses celebrated Britain's 1798 defeat of Napoleon in The Battle of the Nile, and the subsequent discoveries of Egyptian art and culture. The chest is 50" high, 40 3/8" wide, and 23 1/8" deep. Five drawers are approximately 6 3/4" high, and the bottom drawer is 8 1/2" high. I cannot find a maker's identification, but the frame and drawers are hand numbered in pencil. This chest was professionally refinished approximately 30 years ago, and it has been used irregularly since that time. Small areas in the secondary wood of the drawers were filled at the time of refinishing, but ... morethis appears to have been done for cosmetic purposes only. There is no movement in any of the joinery including the legs, and the drawers work very well for a chest of this age. As is appropriate, I suspect the chest with drawers weighs 250 lbs. There are age appropriate scratches and bumps here and there, and particularly on the top and top drawer face. Also, there is long-term wear to the veneer at the location of the ring pulls. Many of the hardware posts(which hold the ring pulls) have been replaced, and the two original posts on the bottom drawer are a bit loose. Further, some of the nuts that fasten the pulls to the drawers have been replaced. Lastly, one of the drawer locks is missing, as is the key. I would recommend Ball and Ball, Exton for the repair, replacement and or keying of the locks. I believe the clean lines and strong profiles of this chest exemplify good Regency furniture. We had to re-glue and re-spray the top, which had split over the years, and now it matches perfectly with the rest of the patina. It has four little dainty handcut dovetail drawers on the top, which we call ditty boxes, for ladies’ pieces of jewelry. There is also a little swivel mirror in the center that’s in great condition, and a lovely beveled edge that’s not serpentine but is scroll-like and molded, and it stands on big, tall cabriole legs. The overall size is 45 inches wide, 24 inches deep, 30 inches high to the base, and 58 inches to the top of the mirror. The mirror frame is 17.5 inches wide, and 24 inches high. All the tiles are in excellent condition with no chips. Cracks nor restoration. The wood is hand carved and has a lovely Antique patina. The mirror has been replaced with the custom fit and all other glass is in tact. This has very detailed craftsmanship which is obvious from the pictures. There is a large center mirror with two side mirrors. There is a canopy of wood carvings of flowers over the mirror. The left and right of the mirror each have a small shelf. There is a center drop and a cubby hole on the left and right on the top of the vanity. There are four doors that open. The center two door wood with glass opens and has a shelf. The two side doors have glass and no shelves. This is such a unique piece that it's hard to capture in words all of the details. Look closely ... moreat the pictures! A beautiful. Solid walnut, antique, dresser-top mirror. Originally made as a men's shaving mirror. The mirror can spin 360 degrees and is designed to be able to move so you can see yourself while standing or sitting. Dimensions of just the mirror: 21 1/2" H/ 15" W. Dimensions of the entire item: 25" H/ 22" W. The base is 22" long and 7" wide. Very few nicks or scratches and is in excellent condition for being over 100 years old. It's in a beautiful caramel swirled colored mahogany. The brass pulls are new replacements, all the drawers are dovetailed with chamfered bottoms an slide in and out very smoothly. The chest is 43 1/2 inches wide, 21 inches deep, 51 inches at highest point at top of back splat and is in very good condition with no visible repairs and just a mere age crack on either side which is very common and hardly noticeable. Antique burled birdseye walnut dresser. It has a white demilune beveled marble top and large center mirror. On either side of the mirror there are two curved cabinets with a shelf in each. Antique Tilting Dresser SHAVING Mirror TIGER OAK Wood VICTORIAN 1880 Round Frame
Antique Tiger Oak Victorian Era c.1880 Round Shaving Mirror- On Tilting Frame- DESCRIPTION A handsome antique shaving mirror on tilting stand. Made entirely of solid tiger oak grained wood. The mirror frame, tilting arms, base and round ball feet all with beautiful graining visable. This one is from the late Victorian era circa 1880's. It's in original untouched condition, not refinished. It also retains the original mirror glass and backing for the round mirror. The round mirror frame is 1" wide and has a deep beveled edge. The two arms have knobs at the sides that can be loosened allowing you to tilt the framed mirror portion. Tightening the knob will then hold it in that fixed position. The arms have lovely turnings and are mortised through the wide shaped chamferred edge base. The base has four round ball feet. We've ... moreleft this as found. We have not polished or refinished the wood it is completly original. Shows good wear, but no splits or cracks or breaks in the wood. And we have not removed the original mirror glass from the frame. As expected with mirror glass of this age, it does show wear to the silvering. Of course, if you like, you could replace the mirror with contemporary mirror glass. We like it just the way it is. Showing it's good age. Size: 12-1/4" high overall- 15-3/4" long and 5-1/2" wide at the base- mirror frame measures 9-3/4" across CONDITION Very Good. The wood has not been refinished. Two walnut supports with brass turn screw attachments support the mirror frame(no mirror) The supports have screw holes in the bases of them to be screwed down to the top of the chest. Original hardware. Including real wooden double( castors.have never seen those before. Deep drawers on the bottom and 2 small shallow drawers on the top. Condition is sturdy and good for its age(ca. late 1800's) But there are a few chips missing- see pictures. Also. I believe the mirror used to be attached to the top/back of the dresser but I guess over time. The frame got damaged/lost. The scalloped mirror is in good condition and has hanging hardware. The knobs ... moreon the side are where it used to swivel on. Listing is bot both the dresser and the mirror. Dimensions are: 40" wide by 19 3/4" deep. IF YOU LOVE FINE ANTIQUE FURNITURE YOU WILL WANT TO PAUSE AND LOOK CAREFULLY AT THIS RARE 1800'S VINTAGE VICTORIAN DRESSER WITH SWIVEL MIRROR AND GLOVE BOXES. ALTHOUGH NOT PERFECT. IT IS OF A QUALITY ONE RARELY ENCOUNTERS. IT IS ALL ORIGINAL AND THE RICH WALNUT WOOD IS EXQUISITELY BEAUTIFUL. THE DRAWERS FEATURE DOVE-TAIL JOINTS, FIT WELL, SLIDE SMOOTHLY AND THE PIECE IS QUITE SOLID. IT STANDS 79 INCHES TALL TO THE TOP OF THE MIRROR FINIAL AND IS 41 INCHES WIDE BY 18.5 INCHES DEEP. FROM THE FLOOR TO THE TOP OF THE DRESSER SURFACE IS 32.5 INCHES. THE GLOVE BOXES ARE 11 X 7 X 2 INCHES AND THE TOP DRAWER IS 33 X 14.25 X 6 INCHES. THE OTHER TWO DRAWERS ARE 33 X 14 X 7 INCHES. THE SURFACE OF THE MIRROR IS 14.25 X 25.5 INCHES. THE DRAWER PULLS ARE VERY ORNATE AND QUITE UNUSUAL. THE ONE ON THE LOWER LEFT IS DAMAGED ALTHOUGH ONE CANNOT SEE IT. ... moreTHE WOOD ATTACH POINT INSIDE THE BRASS FITTING IS DAMAGED. ALLOWING THE WOODEN KNOB TO SEPARATE FROM THE BRASS FIXTURE WHEN THE DRAWER IS OPENED. IT SHOULD BE AN EASY FIX THOUGH. AND OF COURSE. THE KEYS ARE MISSING FROM THE PIECE SO IF LOCKING IS IMPORTANT I SUGGEST YOU SURF ON OVER TO RESTORATION HARDWARE. COM WHERE REPLACEMENT LOCKS CAN BE HAD AT REASONABLE PRICES. THE ONLY OTHER FLAWS ARE REPRESENTED BY THE LAST TWO PHOTOS. THERE IS A SMALL WHITE SPECK(PROBABLY PAINT) ON THE DRESSER SURFACE ALTHOUGH IT DOES NOT SHOW UP WELL IN THE PICTURE AND THERE IS A SMALL PORTION OF THE MIRROR WHERE THE REFLECTION IS NOT PERFECT. IT SEEMS POSSIBLE THAT THE SILVER MAY HAVE PEELED AWAY FROM THE INSIDE SURFACE OF THE MIRROR. AGAIN. SHOULD BE A FAIRLY EASY FIX. BEST OF ALL. THIS RARE PIECE OF FURNITURE IS AVAILABLE FOR THE BARGAIN PRICE OF ONLY $795 AND I MIGHT CONSIDER A REASONABLE OFFER.
