But estimate it to be perhaps 1920's-1940's. It was made by the Belgian"Wear Right" glove makers. And was used as an advertising display at department stores. This particular mannequin hand sat for about 50 years on the make-up and accessories counter of an exclusive and upscale department store in downtown Evansville, Indiana. Sadly, it closed about 10 years ago, but in its heyday, it was THE place for a lady of distinction to shop(by appointment! But enough of the provenance. This lovely piece is a work of art. With just enough wear to give it character. It stands 17" tall from bottom of stand to tips of fingers. It has articulated ... morefingers. With the thumb having 2 moving joints, the index having 3, and the other fingers each having 1. It looks very elegant on display, with delicately hand-painted fingernails. Offered is a Vintage Victorian Era Vanity Top Glove Box. It measures approx. 15 1/4” long(left to right) By 5 3/8” front to back. It stands approx. 4” tall. It is in good vintage condition. There is aging and some surface wear on the exterior. One of the small brass nails that holds the latch/lock in place is missing. There is abundant aging and some soiling to the interior satin lining. Overall. The condition is consistent with that of 125 year old antique wares that were originally designed for everyday use. This is a glove box from a department store. I bought it Christmas. 1968 for my mom from my favorite antique dealer in Lima, Ohio, Marjorie Marts. Margie told me it had come from an area store. I believe she said in St. Marys, Ohio, but I'm not positive that was the town. This box was made by A.N. Russell& Sons of Ilion. NY. They started in business in 1881, but his piece is likely from the the late 1890s or early 1900s. This wooden case was to organize and store what I think had to be kid gloves, because each drawer is divided by card stock into 6 segments. There wouldn't be room for 6 pair of winter gloves in the drawers, so it must have been kid gloves. The cabinet is comprised of 12 drawers. Which are actually more like swivel wooden file boxes than drawers. Each is labeled with a paper label denoting glove size and color. ... moreEach has its own wooden drawer pull. Each drawer pulls out. There are no dividers in the cabinet between the drawers. Once out and on a counter. There is a dovetailed wooden box the pulls open to reveal heavy card-stock partitions or dividers. You'll notice that in one of my photos of the drawer you can see a rounded cut-out area to open the drawer. When I bought this. I was struck at the precision of fit and finish to the piece. This company obviously made quality cases. The cardstock in each drawer is marked"THE PRACTICAL GLOVE HOLDER PATENT APPLIED FOR A. N. Russell& Sons. Ilion, N.Y. This cabinet is very heavy. But I do not know actual wood type. 14" wide x 15.5" deep(16" deep with pulls protruding) x about 8.75" tall. I am offering a great Vintage Carved Wooden Glove/ Pencil Box As you can see in the pictures. It is put together with very small nails which are not very noticeable at afar. There is an interior solid wood and then the carved wood is on the outside to make it a closed solid box. The carving on the top is of Deers and Trees in a medallion and on the surrounding area there is scroll work. On the 2 ends. It has Birds. On the front and back panels. THIS AUC TION IS FOR ONE ANTIQUE VICTORIAN DARNING TOOL! Rare and Adorable Victorian Double- Sided. Multi-purpose Glove& Stocking or Hose Darning Tool. May also have been used as a glove or slipper stretcher. These came in a pair, but they are very handy and we began using one to, well, darn and mend lace. The Darning tool is two-sided. One side appears to be for darning gloves and the other for shoes or sleeves. B eautifully crafted& lovely! The smaller wooden darning tips measure approx. 1 inch x 1.5 inch and is cylindrical. The triangular darning tool measures approx. 1 3/4 x 2 1/4 and is flat bottomed. Both darning tips have been sanded& painted pink so to not snag or damage gloves. Stockings or lace. The metal connecting the two wooden tools feels like steel or aluminium, and has also been painted pink. It is slightly flexible, ... morebut not bendable. They are slightly curved either th r ough use or storage. The larger sides are covered with pink& green striped heavyweight cotton or linen muslin fabric. Which has been padded around the triangular darning tool( or stretcher) It is tied on with a grosgrain ribbon, and easily removed. We imagine that these may have been repurposed in the Edwardian Era as a store display, as they are in wonderful condition, with only a wee bit of yellowing that is hardly apparent. The fabric is in lovely condition and the stripes were even sewn together to match up pe rfectly. Someone took an immense amount of care and love to make these. Here's a unique hand carved Folk Art box dating back to the 1800's. The chipped carved lid shows a long slender glove in the center with a eight point Star carved on each side. The sides of the box are ornately carved with a leaf/ vine motif. Measures 10 1/4" length x 4" width x 2 1/2" ht Still in excellent condition. William Morris French Antique Nap III Wooden Glove/Fan Box– Antiques Boxes Woodenware A very handsome brown wooden glove. Fan or jewelry box from the Napoleon III period in France(1852—1870) lined in tufted blue/aqua silk, with brass fittings and a lock and key. The box is in very good overall condition. The top has a fine brass cartouche and insert which is solid and complete as well as a tiny brass escutcheon where the key fits into the lock. There is some minor evidence of wear of the wood– small crackling in the vanish and on the top edging. The bottom corners have minor usage. Which is not surprising considering the age of the box and the fact that they were usually included in the luggage during travels. The interior padding is silk in a lovely bluish aqua. ... moreWith tufted buttons and all four sides are lined in matching fabric. The top and bottom tufted lining is impeccable– no tears, no rips, no wear, with only minor traces of lines on one side. There is some wear evident where the lining covers the bottom lock. All of the tiny matching buttons are present and well-attached. The two hinges are original and work well allowing the box to close snugly. There is a key and it turns slightly but does no engage the lock. The interior of the box measures 12 inches long and 3 1/4 inches wide. The exterior measures 12 7/8 inches. 4 1/8 inches wide at the center and sits 3 1/8 inches high. These boxes were used by gentlemen to store their evening gloves and by ladies to store their fans– both expensive and usually custom-made accessories. VTG Wooden Glove Box Flemish Art 1900’s Embossed Wood Burn Poinsettia Design
Up for auction is an interesting vintage wooden glove box. 1. Box measures 10” Wide x 2 1/8” High x 3 ½” Deep. 2. Box is made from a very light-weight wood. Possibly balsa 3. The outside color is a medium golden brown and inside cover is lighter with design easier to see 4. Cover and inside cover have same design of“G-l-o-v-e-s” in script text and poinsettia flowers 5. Poinsettia flower design appears on all four sides 6. Flower design and text look to be a wood burning process(Pyro) 7. The edges of the box are notched in a dove tail design 8. Metal hinges appear to be brass. No rust and work fine 9. There has been some repair with finishing nails which have come through the wood in several places– selling as is 10.
