Not sure if it was intentionally made ... morethat way or if this is from age and use. Either way. It's stated and photographed for your consideration. That being said there are a few measurements to consider. At the shortest diameter distance the bowl measures 10 1/4" in diameter. At the longest diameter distance the bowl measures 11" in diameter. Again. This is from being slightly out of round. The bowl has some heavy scratching from use. Mostly located at the center interior. You can see this in the photos. I know that some people like to sand these out and return them to their original smooth surface. That's being left up to the winning bidder to determine and address. Some rough edges around the diameter of the lip. The bottom and exterior is very clean with almost no scratching. Please note that the bowl has a silky feel to it from being seasoned and treated with food grade oil. The spoon or paddle measures 9 1/4" in length X 5" wide at the widest point. It too has wear and scratching from use with some minor surface splitting near the end. Nothing that goes through though. Overall a great candidate for restoration or to leave it as is to add to your primitive home decor. Should you have any questions or concerns. Huge 17.75" Signed Munising Woodenware Wood Dough Mixing Bowl
Up for auction is this lovely vintage solid wood dough mixing bowl. It was made by the Munising Wood Products Co. in Munising. Michigan on the shores of beautiful Lake Superior. Bowl measures a large 17 3/4 inches by 16 1/2 inches. Bowl height is 6 1/2 inches and has an inside dept of 6 1/8 inches. Bowl thickness is 1/2 inch. Weight of bowl is just under 5 pounds. The bowl is in extremely good condition. It is free of cracks. Splints or damage. We are not positive on the type of wood but believe it to be maple. It has a wonderful patina and is not polished or painted. You can see some of the Munising mark on the bottom of the bowl. The wood has been covered with a honey colored varnish. With the legs a bit darker in color. Diameter of the bowl is about 11” The bowl has wear and patina for a vintage look. And this includes several areas of wear, some scratches and scuffs, some chips and nicks, etc. Several worn“lines” in interior of bowl. Some unevenness and puckering of varnish at worn areas. Especially in the interior. Some chipping and nicks around outside edge. Legs/feet show a good bit of wear. Worn area on very bottom, and next to it is an area where varnish has been worn away. The bowl is slightly oblonged over time. The Maple has major birdseyeing throughout the entire piece. The finish has been all worn off. Munsing signing on the bottom. The Munsing web site tells me that it was turned between 1920-1930. The bowl has 1/2" lip around it. Very nice. The bowl is about 3.75" in depth. The flash on my camera is not great.Bowl is not light in coler as the last pic shows.

The smaller bowl is a Munising. It is about 6 3/4" by 7 3/4" outside top. The larger 3 footed bowl has some paint chipped on the inside and some varnish worn off. Here is a very large mixed Lot of 11 old Vintage primitive style wood bowls a couple maybe antique. The shapes vary from round to unround& ovals and sizes vary from largest 10 1/2" to smallest 6" All of them are very well used and aged with the exception of a couple. Some have painted surfaces which show alot of wear to most, some look unfinished and plain, some appear to have had a finish or laquere coating which is also worn on most that had it. 2 of the bowl still have the Munising name on bottom and several of the others I feel are Munising but name is worn off over the years. A couple of them look to have been smaller sized dough mixing bowls. Vintage 17" Munising Hard Maple Wood Rolling Pin
This auction is for an excellent+ vintage maple hardwood rolling pin made by the Munising Wood Products Company of Munising. Michigan, and stamped"Munising" in script on one end of the roller. Like other Munising pins, it measures 17 1/2 inches long and has a diameter of 2 1/2 inches. There are no stains, chips or gouges in the wood, making this a fine one to have survived the past 70 years. Its roller and handles are natural maple and never were painted.

As with other bowls from the Munising Wood Products Company, they were turned in the 1950s and remain in excellent condition with no damage. There are no chips, cracks or other unsightly blemishes on these 6" X 6 1/2" lathe-turned beauties. The finish is very nice, and the interiors are food safe.

1940s Primitive Wood Dough Bowl Butter Hand Carved Marked Munising 2nd 10.75 x
This is a a great old butter bowl. The different shades of natural aged colors. In a soft yellow aged wood with the scratched signs of use and a split as shown that hopefully is simple to repair-can be used as decorative in your old country kitchen-would look fantastic with bright green apples or sunny yellow lemons for Spring into Summertime. Typical age and dry old surface cracks. Yes there is that one crack as its old and has been used showing lots of character. The bowl is oblong and not perfectly round measuring 11 1/2" x 10 3/4" measurements taken from the outer most points. It has the Munising 2nd mark on the base in that calligraphy style that dates it circa 1940s. It is about 2 1/2 inches deep, perfect for mixing butter, dough or simply decorative.

It measures approx 10 7/8" x 10 1/4" and stands approx 2 1/2" tall. The painted motif of fruit and leaves is well worn and in some areas the paint has worn off completely. I feel no wax on the bowl. Wood Primitive Rustic: 3 Munising Bowls, 1 Great Alaskan Bowl, 1 Mortar & Pestle
Please read below for descriptions of each item. Vintage. Large Wooden Munising Bowl, 10” x 11” Oval. Rustic farmhouse-style wooden bowl by Munising, measuring approximately 10” wide by 11” wide by about 2” deep. I don’t know if it was used for chopping, butter or salad, but it’s too small to be a dough bowl. Shows signs of having been well-loved and purposeful for many years, but has no cracks or chips. It’s sturdy and intact. Shows an antique-like patina, a LOT of scratch marks, a little pitting, and some variegation of the color on the inside. I took a few similar(same angle/side) photos with the flash both on and off, to give a better idea as to color. I found this in a thrift store, so I don’t know what has been in it, and I have not cleaned it because I don’t wish to alter the patina that took so many years to acquire. It doesn’t smell ... morelike smoke(and we smoke nothing here) It just smells like wood to me, no surprise there. Munising Woodenware was in business from 1911 to 1955, so this bowl is at LEAST 57 years old, but based on comparisons to other bowls I’ve seen listed, it’s probably much older than 57. No way to tell for sure, I suppose(unless maybe if one’s an expert on these things, which I am not) I took MANY photos but this listing allows only 12. Munising 9" Turned Wood Bowl hanpainted Native American or Deco Egypt Revival
Munising signed and hand painted artisan crafted wood bowl from Michigan Wood craft company that made quality hardwood turned bowls on lathes and woodenware from 1915 to 1955. During World War Two the Munising Woodcraft company produced thousands of tent poles for the U.S. Marines and Army. Although they produced other hardwood products sold in Fine Department Stores such as spoons and butter molds. Only their bowls are signed. During the 1940s various artists hand painted 11 inch and 9 inch bowls. The artists were not allowed to sign their work. Only the Munising 2nd signature was allowed, but some of these gifted artisans hid their initials or makers mark on the bowls, inconspicuously carving them or painting their mark within the designs, as found here, these are the bowls my grandfather loved to find. Here a V and E are repeated motifs ... moreand actually carved into the body of one of the birds inside the bowl. This bowl may be earlier than 1940. It has an earlier 1930s stamp and the motif looks like it is from the Art Deco period when Egyptian Revival was an extremely popular motif. The painting also looks like an American Native type of design. It was made in 1940 at latest time when company was known to have made painted bowls. This bowl is one of the most elaborate and colorful bowls I have seen. My grandfather collected both the plain and painted bowls and this is truly a rare collectable turned wood bowl and piece of American Folk Art with individually painted bowls Munising 9" bowls have become very collectable and vary greatly by the year they were made. The bowl offered is from the Egyptian Revival period of Art Deco 1920s-30s and a rare find from Munising woodcraft bowls. It is in very good condition for age and though used. Munising Bowls 1930/40s Wood Salad Bowl Set
Hand carved maple bowls made by the Munising Co. They are maple blonde in color. There is one large pedestal bowl that rests on three feet and measures 11" x 10 1/2" x 3" the six salad bowls each 6 3/8" x 6" they are not perfect circles. Based on the mark on the bottom these bowls were made from the 1930s/40s and possibly into the early 50's production stopped in 1955. They are in good used vintage condition the larger bowl has what looks like a surface scratch from a knife. And you can see it the picture and it does not interfere with the use.

Primitive handsome appearance, and highly useful in encampment kitchens for period correct cooking presentations. Please study the pictures, and in last photo, see how vintage wood bowls go to work in actual useage in summer encampment when you are on the road and it is meal time for the family and troops. The hardwood bowl has seen use over time with tight grain and a few darkened spots on the inner patina. Not grease, just age spots here and there. It is slightly ovoid shape with shrinkage of time measuring 12" by 13.5" this is a LARGE bowl to hold much fruit, etc for serving as shown suggested use, with excellent character earned by an honest antique. ... moreThe rim is 1/2" sturdy thick and bowl stands 4 1/4" off surface off table. It is clearing impressed MUNISING on the flat bottom surface, a coveted name in signed treen ware for collectors. Condition Report: As found original bowl from the field. It has a 2.5" TIGHT crack running diagonally off the edge, stable, you cannot see light through it when held up to view, meaning no open separation. This is an age crack. Tiny 1/2" fissure crack on opposite rim, almost insignificant to reenactor use, just want to mention all accuracies. The bowl shows well, is useable, clean, no odors, my home is smoke free, and high bidder acknowledge and accepts the status report and does not argue after arrival, they failed to notice the small crack. This is not a reproduction, foreign import, or fake primitive made to look old, it IS genuine old and worthy of antique show table top offerings in summer outdoor shows for collectors. Vintage / Near Antique LOT 2 Wood Munising Bowls Mixing Chopping w/ NICE Chopper
Great vintage/ near antique lot consisting of TWO oval signed Munising Woodenware Co. bowls and one really sturdy antique chopper. The larger of the two bowls measures 11-1/4 x 10-1/2 and stands 3-1/8" high. This bowl is marked with the newer 1940's cursive lettering. The smaller bowl is also oval or"out of round" measuring 9" x 8-1/4" and standing 1-1/2" high. This smaller bowl is marked in the all block. Same size lettering indicative of the 1920's and has an outward extended rim around the exterior. You can see the turnings inside both bowls but they are more evident on the upper portions of the larger bowl. Both bowls have been well used and have great patina. Bowls nest together well. The chopper has a nice solid wood handle(4-1/4" long and 1" in diameter) With brass shaft marked at bottom ... morenear pins going through blade"A. FREEMAN, CAST STEEL" The 6" long steel blade is curved slightly for great chopping. I am unsure of the age of the chopper but I would expect c. 1900-1920s. Notice the great scribe marks down the handle to line up the shaft, the cracks in the top of the handle, the non circular shaft and washer showing on the top of handle AND the great patina. Note that the cracks in the top of the handle are not deep and do not pose any impediment to use(not sharp or splintery) This chopper feels great in the hand and the blade is still sharp. Vintage Wood Wooden Large Munising Footed Bowl with feet
Here is a vintage Munising wooden bowl with a nice golden finish in great shape. It has three feet attached to the bottom that show a little bit of wear from use over many years. But the bowl portion is in very nice shape. There is a little bit of orange/red staining, pictured, that may have come from some kind of juice or oil in contact, but that doesn't detract from the attractiveness of this nice antique item.
