It has a Queen Anne back and cabriole legs with shell carving on the knee, all ending in pad feet. It is 38" high at the back by 21' deep(front leg to back leg) by 22" wide(knee to knee) NOTE: all measurements given are the largest, outside measurements. The seat height is approx. 18" from floor to top of seat. The chair is solid but there is some inlay missing. Please see all photos. It has a very old finish, probably original, with good color and patination. The slip seat is very easy to re-upholster. Description This chest sold a month ago to a bidder that lives in Australia. I could not ship him the chest there because of shipping restrictions please see note below. My fault. I did not realize the size box that would be necessary to ship this chest safely. So my appologies. Here we go again. This listing is for a really quite spectacular circa 1850 very elaborate apprentice cabinet circa 1850 or so. The cabinet measures 19 inches high by 16 inches across and 8 inches deep. 48 by 40 by 20 cm) The cabinet has 4 wallpaper lined drawers. Each drawer has a brass escutcheon and two round wood pulls each with a brass star. The cabinet is mahogany with the top. Front and both sides covered in marquetry work. The marquetry work is at least 6 different woods including olive and fruit woods. The drawers are flanked by columns with fancy capitals ... moreand bases. The whole sits on 4 bun feet. As you can see by the photographs the cabinet is a really beautiful example of"proof" that an apprentice had achieved mastery of his cabinet making skills. The condition is also exceptional for it's age and virtually untouched as far as restorations or repairs. The drawers maintain their original wall paper interiors. This antique letterbox organizer is made of a buatifully grained 1/4 inch thick sheet mahogany. The front and the top. Inside panels have beautiful marquetry inlay boughs of stylized leaf pairs, accented by small four petal flowers. Framing the boughs is an ever so thin, appproximately 1.5 mm, inlayed stripe of a dark wood bordered by a blond wood. On the top edges of all the panels there is brass trim. This brass trim has a very subtle curved cross section, and a wonderfully warm patina. The base is 12 5/8 wide. By approximately 6 1/2 front to back, and 3/8 inch thick. Beautiful late 19th C Continental oak marquetry miniature desk / roll top
I called this a(miniature) desk for want of knowing what else to label it. But regardless of its purpose, the marquetry here is absolutely incredible. Not only are the drawer faces done with great detail, but the roll top itself is sections so as to be marquetry as well. something I've never seen before. As for dimensions, its 16 1/4" high, 12 1/2" wide and 6 3/8" deep at the base. The construction, moreover, is all wood pegs. no nails. There are though two apologies. First, there's some missing inlay at both ends of the top board(see my last picture) and more seriously, the veneer along one edge of the roll case needs restoration in the form of both adding some wood and then matching marquetry veneer(see my 11th picture) In any event, there is no reserve, but buyer pays $16 for USPS domestic shipping.

I bought it in the 1980's on Robertson Drive in Beverly Hills, California. The table needs a little varnish and one or two of the chairs needs some velvet.
