A great looking Antique Weathervane Arrow and Sun Colored Milk Glass Lightning Ball set up on a display base and mounted on a copper Lightning Rod. The items featured in this display all date to at leat the 1940's and likely are even older. The fancy cast iron arrow measures 18 inches long and has the original red tail glass and even though their is a crack in the one corner. It is firmly and solidly set into the iron frame. The old white milk glass ball is 4 inches in diameter and has a lovely lavender tint due to being exposed to the sun for many years. The ornate arrow is 19" long and made of cast iron with 2 stainless steel clips that hold the glass insert in place. The arrow has been gold gilded and has some wear and pitting along the front side and on the two outside corners of the square holding the etched glass also on the front side The ruby red. Deeply etched, glass piece is 5" long by 3" wide. The glass is in fantastic condition with no chips or scratching The ball no longer has the protective end caps and does have some chips in both rims. It is 5" across. No cracks or other chipping The copper center rod with the crown is 25" total length. Antique Lightning Rod Weathervane Arrow Ruby Red Glass Tail
This antique lightning weathervane is made of cast iron with rudy red glass tail. Please see in picture 2 there is damage to the tail. Where one of the iron decorative swirls came off at the bottom. Measures 18 1/2 inches long. There is some rusting. There is slight damage, imperfections to the glass two corners of the glass has been chipped, slightly noticeable, but not large enough to have major damage. There is also an area at the edge there is a spot where its a clear glass that has formed a slight appearance of clouding, it appears to be either manufacturing imperfection in the glass or it got hit by lighting? ANTIQUE Red Stained Glass Lightning Rod BALL Weathervane Dark RUBY BARN Find
You won't believe how my husband came across this beautiful lightning rod ball! He was on a farmstead here in Kansas. Looking in barns. Outside of one he found it on the ground. The owner said the dogs(5 of them) had been rolling it around on the ground. We can't believe but it had to have blown off the rod, rolled down the barn roof and dropped on the ground! How it survived all that I don't know! Anyway it measures approx. 4 1/2 inches from end to end. There is a large shallow dimple from when it was made. It is a beautiful dark ruby color. There is clear color at the ends. So it has been painted originally(on the inside) It has mold lines from where it was blown in a mold. I see a couple small areas that look like bubbles but I believe they are not bubbles only spots of lighter color, hardly noticeable. I am unable to get a ... moregood picture of them. THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL. ORIGINAL, ANTIQUE PIECE. This fine. Cased, ruby-red, cut-to-clear piece of glass was used in an authentic antique lightning rod weather vane. Measuring 4 1/2" x 2 1/8" it was either soldered into the tail of a cast iron weathervane or was held in by clips on the opening. This particular one shows signs of having been soldered in including faint stains on the edges and very small chips on the corners, but it would work in either type without showing those flaws. The drawing above shows the type of vane it was made for, but it will work in many other styles. Circa 1910 Cut Metal American Trotting Horse Weathervane In Oxidized Red Paint
For sale is a wonderful circa 1910 cut metal trotting horse weathervane. This American made a weathervane comes to us from an estate in New Hampshire. It was on a barn and it was taken down many years ago and stored away. It was acquired at sale of items from the home and purchased at the sale in upstate New York in the Hudson Valley. This is a real and used weathervane. Not some of the cut metal weathervanes you often see sold which were never actually used as a weathervane. This is not a decorative piece but was an actual functioning weathervane with lots of history. Of course now it's collectible quality has given it a great decorative antique appeal. For collectors of antique American cut and sheet-metal weathervanes this is a great find. This weathervane features a heavier gauge steel than normal sheet-metal and is banded together ... morewith bolt/rivet construction and metal reinforcement construction. It has what appears to be the original red paint which has taken on a faded oxidized look giving this a weathervane a lovely beautiful character. There are three bullet holes in this weathervane which also adds character and history to the piece. These bullet holes are very old. We have taken pictures of this piece in the sun as well as in the evening light. In the sun the piece appears brighter and in the evening of the piece takes on a darker red hue. The up close pictures that we have included in our listing are a very good indication of what this piece looks like It stands on a solid steel pole which was once threaded on the bottom. Where it attached to the copula base)There are two areas with nuts which are threaded to the bar. We will try to remove these hexagonal and square nuts prior to shipping but if not we will ship this piece with the steel rod attached. Here is a beauty.Ruby Red glass etched to clear frosted glass in the iron cross symbol. Found just the way we like to find them.original and untouched. Very nice 18" antique rusted cast iron weather vane directional. The screw has not been tampered with. There are the tiniest tinest flea bites at a couple of the points of the etching in the cross. You really need to be up on it about 6 inches away and have good eyes. I am sure inherent from being etched but I like to get everything out there. I have left the glass the way I found it. I would think it would clean up if that is the way the new owner likes. I personally like the way it is and know others might too so have left it alone. And you know you are getting old glass! Up for auction is an old weather vane bulb. It is roughly 4.5" in diameter with an opening just less than 1" in diameter. The rims have some chips but it is a very usable original piece that is harder to come by. This was purchased recently at an estate auction in Eureka. Kansas if anyone is concerned with its origin. This is an antique wooden Red-Headed Woodpecker shaped weathervane. It is 9" long 4.5" tall and.5" wide. The paint is faded and chipped in some spots because of it's age. The nail that held it in place is very rusty but it still holds it's original shape and sturdiness. The metal eyes are also rusty underneath the pain. Overall shape is in decent primitive condition. The glass most likely has no value, but it will be included with the arrow. This has not been clean at all. This was an estate of ham radio enthusiasts and this was mounted on their roof for a very long time. We were told that this one and one other we're listing separately.
