WEATHER VANE/ FLAGPOLE TOPPER: Antique Eagle. Gilded Metals, 17" Tall x 11" Wide If you set your monitor at FULL SCREEN from TOOLS you will be better able to view the photos. This is a beautifully modeled and cast antique Eagle made from a metal which I cannot identify except to say that it is non-ferric. The ball is gilded copper. The gilding was applied over a heavy coat of mustard colored sizing which was sometimes used on objects meant for outdoors so that when the gilding started to wear. It wouldn't be so obvious. Much of the gilding and some of the yellow undercoat has worn away from exposure to the elements. I bought this Eagle in New Hampshire more than twenty years ago in a shop along Route 401 that runs between Concord and Portsmouth. It used to be called"Antique Alley" as there were dozens of fine antique ... morestores along the way. I haven't been back in a long time. But the last time I made that run, there were many fewer stores than there used to be. The man from whom I bought this Eagle told me he thought it was part of an old Weather Vane. Maybe. But I don't think so. It looks me as if it may have been meant to go on top of a flag pole. Except that it is much too finely modeled. The feathers are all beautifully articulated and the wings are differentiated from each other. The left wing is raised slightly higher and the tips of its end feathers are more curved than those of the right wing. If it was meant for a flag pole, it must have been a special one. Or it could have been part of some other kind monument which would have been visible at a much closer range than a flag pole. Frankly, I don't really know. But I do know that it is a beautiful thing. On his wooden stand. This Eagle measures 17 1/4 inches tall. The Eagle and the ball are 10 1/2 inches tall. From wingtip to wingtip, he is 11 1/4 inches wide and from his beak to the tip of his tail feathers, he is 6 1/8 inches long. There doesn't seem to be any damage to the figure and the surface is completely stabl

Here is an old weather vane and or lightning rod arrow topper. It measures 11 1/2 inches long from end to end then the end on its base that would set down into a weathervane or lightning rods shaft measures 1 1/2 inches long by 1/2 of an inch across its center. I found three of these and sold two here in ebay so this is my last one and its like the rest was dirty as found from an attic with many years of patina. Any questions please email me. Copper eagle weather vane topper
Vintage copper eagle weather vane topper. Wonderful patina with much oxidation on the upper part of the eagle which would've been subjected to more weather. Eagle itself is in very good condition. But it has been separated from the directional part of the vane. It does come with the rod that slides up into the ball that the eagle is sitting on. This could be mounted onto a board or other type of support so that the eagle will stand upright. It also has two holes in the lower part of the tail where perhaps someone had it mounted on the wall. There is a dent in the ball which you can see in photo 3. Metal Rabbit Weathervane Topper Architectural Lightning Rod Weather Vane Animal
Here is a great old find. Looks like a salvaged Weathervane topper in the shape of a Rabbit. The Rabbit is approx. 11 3/4 inches high x approx. 12 inches long and approx 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inches thick at the mid section. The Rabbit has been affixed to a base that measures approx 4 x 8 1/2 inches. The Rabbit looks to have been exposed to the elements of the outdoors as it has some rust on the feet and legs. Looks like someone used a rust stopping black paint to preserve it. The Rabbit is very solid and could easily be reapplied to a Weathervane if someone chose to do so. I cannot find any makers marks on it anywhere. I believe it is pretty old and is still very desirable. Postage will be $12.00 due to the size of box needed to ship it safely.

Fresh find from a Maryland Farm Estate is this Antique Copper Eagle Weather Vane Topper Was cleaned before we found it and we were told was going to be installed back before a storm destroyed the building it was resting on. The family always wanted to redo another weather vane but the surviving eagle spent its last years hidden on a shelf in a old tobacco stripping room We believe this was created in Maine as the daughter of the former owner told the tale of this coming home from a trip her parents took to visit family in Maine in the early 60’s Solid copper sheet hand hammered and soldiered to form a hollow body with a copper thru rod with the eagle resting on a hollow copper ball Measures 19” from wing tip to wing tip.
