This is a vintage Robbins Weather Vane and Lightning Rod made by Robbins in Maryville. MO. It came off the house I spent my youth in. I'm not sure when it was placed on the house, but I have vague memories of childhood discussions about the lightning rods so it's possible it could date to the late 60's. The hole in the weather vane dates to 1978 when I took one of my first successful and mischievous shots with a new.22 rifle. The weather vane is in good shape otherwise, aside from being weathered. Please look at the photos and ask questions before bidding. Note that I also have four lightning rods up for auction which also came off the house. Added: The directional indicators are 14" across and the letters are 4" tall. The vane is 20" long and is cast aluminum. Antique Robbins Weathervane Maryville Mo. Lightning Rod Horse Stallion Folk Art
Up For Auction! This is a rare Robbins Weathervane/ Lightning Rod with a Horse figurine. The weather vane measures approximately 25" tall. It has a figure of a horse on the top and is made of a sand like material or plaster. It is very light weight figure. But does appear to made of something other than plastic. Possibly bakelite, paper mache or sandstone. The horse has three of the feet broken off. One of them comes with the vane. It appears that someone has tried to repair it with some super glue. The exterior of the horse feels gritty like sand and it looks like it was made in a mold. The directional arrow and N. W, S& E(North, South, East& West) arms are made of a light weight aluminum. There is a plastic cylinder that is in the middle of the weather vane. It has two small hairline cracks at the bottom where the screw attach ... morethe plastic part to the main rod. There are very small and unnoticeable. The main rod has threads at the bottom to screw into something or attach it to something using a nut. The diameter of the main rod and threads is approximately 1/2" in diameter. The tail of the direction arrow has a maker's name. It was made by Robbins. Maryville Missouri This was purchased at an estate sale in North Dakota and undoubtedly came of the family's barn or shed. I have no doubt it would make a great ornament. This weathervane is fairly complete and in nice condition outside of the feet being broken. This is a great vintage piece of folk art. Here we have a group of 4 used but good saddle style lightning rods. These were removed from an old tumbled down house here in Southern Ky. recently. All 4 aluminum saddles are stamped"Robbins Lightning Maryville. Mo. The lightning rods each stand 18" tall. All the clamping fingers are intact. These are some what bent and out of shape. These are not old antique but they should be usable for repair or with some good aluminum cable, put a system on your building. You get all 4 saddle braces for the money.
