Antique Lightning Rod Weathervane Arrow Kretzer weather vane
Up for consideration is this stunning 23" Kretzer lightning rod arrow. Made of brass this arrow has a great patina. There is no damage or repairs. The glass is an NOS Kretzer glass that was very difficult to obtain. This is the only modification to this arrow. Also included is the original Kretzer brass ferrule the arrow was mounted on, this also is in great untouched condition, screws work as they should. On my other auctions this week I have listed the pendant hanger and ajax topper that were on the same rod. I personally removed them from a roof and they are new to the market. c.1910 Kretzer St. Louis Lightning Rod Wind Direction Arrow Weather Vane 22 1/2"
This is a 22 1/2 inch long lightning rod wind direction arrow marked Kretzer on one side and St Louis on the other. Manufactured around 1910. It is metal and meant to have a piece of colored glass in the tail. The glass needs replaced with the color of yor choice. The metal has a green color and may have been painted long ago. I am also selling a Kretzer lightning rod finial in a separate auction. and I do combine shipping. Both items were on the same barn.

ANTIQUE c.1900 CAST IRON and COPPER WEATHER VANE ARROW 28 1/2" LENGTH Great old cast iron weather vane directional arrow. Figural arrow has a center double loop where it can be placed on a lightening rod or pole. The opposing end of the arrow is thick copper and was made so an animal or figure could be mounted to it. The cast iron arrow and copper rod are riveted together in the center. This appears to be all original and is all very old but solid and free of cracks or damage. Some typical pitting in the cast iron as shown. The overall length is 28 1/2" With the arrow portion measuring about 16 inches long and the copper rod portion measuring about 12 1/2 inches long. This arrow is from the same estate and building as our recently sold copper horse weathervane was. Please review photos to assess condition. Vintage Copper Lightning Rod Weather Vane with Glass Ball & Directional Arrow
For auction is a complete vintage copper lightning rod/weather vane similar to the one seen on a recent version of American Pickers. This one was one of two that graced an old barn in eastern Pennsylvania. It would make a great architectural display piece for your home. Right now. It is mounted on a board for display purposes but it will not be shipped with the board. You can supply your own and save shipping costs. The three legs and framework for the rod are iron and are rusted from years of being exposed to the elements. Just the rod is copper. The three legs were meant to be spread out and attached to the peak of the roof. The bottom of the rod has a copper loop through which ran copped cable to make any lightening strike go to ground. The glass ball was intended to explode if hit by lightening to indicate a strike. The pictures are representative ... moreof its brown light coffee color. There are no cracks in the glass but there are flakes on the upper and lower edges of the circular hole as can be seen in the 6th and 7th pictures. It appears that the more serious flakes resulted from the ball turning on the directional arrow. I suppuse there is some type of washer or gasket to prevent this type of damage. The arrow is 20 3/4" long. It is made from cas aluminum or white metal as it is not very heavy. The rod stands 65 3/4" tall and the entire peice shows good green copper patina.The ball will be shipped separate from the rod and arrow to prevent damage.

From a local estate. Here is a beautiful old cast iron weather vane arrow, would have fit on the old rooftop lightning rod on a house or barn. Overall length is 18.5" about 4" top to bottom. I'm guessing this was refinished at some point. The black paint looks too shiny and was probably applied over a rusty original, and the glass panel doesn't look right, probably a replacement. Rare antique Kretzer Lightning Rod Weather Vane This is a hard to find piece with the original green"Kretzer" glass in the tail. The glass is textured on one side and"Kretzer" is reversed applied- like a decal. Not painted, to the other, smooth side. It is a gold colored lettering with a black outline. There are a few small areas where the wording has come off. There are no chips in the glass at all. The arrow is most likely painted brass as it does not attract a magnet. Kretzer St. Louis" is cast into one side. It is in very good shape with no cracks or chips. Some patina on the rod and the glass has some film/dirt on the back side. I did not want to clean this. Rare and interesting Armadillo and Arrow copper Weathervane top or could be added to a Lightning rod. The pieces are all non metallic and have a green patina at varying places. Both are old. But exact age is unknown. The arrow has a real folk art look to it. I have never seen an Armadillo weathervane. Even in Texas the metal one's are rare. The diller is nose to tail 29 1/2" long, the mounting bar he is on is 30 3/4" long. He is 11 inch wide at the widest area and add 1/2" where the down bracket is. This is a very cool Weather Vane piece or Maybe a Lightning Rod Piece. It is exactly 20.5" from tip to tip. The tip and tail of the arrow are read. You can see that the Tip of the arrow had been cracked at some point of this item's life but was brazen back together. Someone care a lot about this item because. It was done very well. Awesome early copper/brass Weathervane. In as found condition. The letters and their cross pieces are I believe brass or bronze as they are heavy. The arrow im pretty sure is all copper due to its discoloration. One side of the"feathers" on the arrow could use resoldered to the shaft. The top copper tube has solder on it as if it has had some kind of animal or figure soldered to it at one time. Measures 45 inches tall. Great yard art. Roof topper or just for your collection. Nice. Copper/Brass pieces for a lightning rod arrow. Lock collar and insert. Screw are missing on the collars with the inserts. One is broken off inside. The 3 short lock collars have the screws intact, I have not tried to remove the screws. The longest insert is right at 1 7/8" long. Two of the tubes are about 3/4" outside. Another one is about 7/8" and one is 3/4" those two are a little distorted one the ends. No reserve. Read particulars. Nice.but.the solder has let go all of the way around the pig.otherwise he was pretty flawless other than a little light rust. Original arrow that the pig was mounted on. There is a small piece of the cast iron arrow missing where the copper shaft goes into the cast iron.I tried to show that in the last picture. The arrow is about 22" long. The pig is about 9" X 5" tall. Great original if you can do a little repair work on him. No reserve. Read particulars. Here we have a great old cast iron and glass arrow weather vane. This has the ruby red glass with a cut star in it. It shows its age as the arrow is rusted. There is a small chip on the one edge of the glass but it is not noticeable unless you really look at it. I am Not sure if the swivel piece that holds the glass in its original. Iam pleased to offer this early 1800s cast iron lightning rod directional arrow that came from a barn in one of my picks this summer. It measures 14 1/2" long and 2 1/4" at the widest point on the arrow. It is weathered beautifully for age and has many little dimples from many years of service and has no breaks. Repairs, worn through spots. Very even aged. Nice look and interesting design work. See all pictures.
