For sale is a pair of vintage lightning rod balls. may be antique. These came from the farm country of Southeast Kansas from an Antique Dealers auction. In another auction I will list 2 metal vanes. The balls. One blue and one white appear to be like milk glass. The blue one has been used and has come chipping around both of its 1.25" lips. The white one has a pair of plastic fasteners attached and I notice some chipping on one end. This need cleaning. But otherwise I do not see any condition issues. About 5" long; softball size. All of the balls have"medium" size collars with the usual wear expected from 100 years of rattling in the wind while sitting on a rooftop lightning rod. One of the sun colored amethyst(SCA) balls has a V shaped chip that does not reach the body of the ball. But a metal cap covers this chip fully. One of the blue milk glass balls has a bubble pop hole in it. This hole is from the manufacturing process, an air pocket was in the mold when the ball was made. This is not a hole caused by a BB gun. This ball is considered usable, as it was on a rooftop lightning rod for years and did not break during its lifetime. All of these balls have another 100 years of use left in them! Two beautiful shades of blue glass lightning rod balls with patina- They've not been washed or handled in any way since the rods were installed until yesterday when the copper rods were removed from the roof- How long they graced the ridge of the roof I couldn't tell you but the structure itself is over 100 years old- I did remove the wasps nests that had been built in one of them but aside from that didn't even wipe away dirt for the photos- If they appear clean in any way it may be due to the heavy rainfall we recently experienced here in the Midwest- Funny how you can become attached to a useful object of beauty. Here are 2 Vintage White Milk Glass Lightning Rod Balls. One Mounted on Its Original Copper Tube! Both are in Very Good Condition! There are a very few small chips on each- But Only- on their top and bottom which would be covered by the metal end caps- Not Included. The one still mounted on its Original Copper Tube is about 4 inches in Diameter. The Center Hole in this one is 7/8 inches in Diameter. The Other Ball is about 4 and 1/2 inches in Diameter with a Center Hole that is about 1 and 1/8 inches in Diameter. The First picture shows the true White Color of both of These. In the second picture. There appears to be a hint of blue, but this is due only to incorrect lighting. Both of These are Good Collectables!

Lot of 5 purple lavender amethyst milk glass lightning rod globes balls
This a lot of 5 lightning rod balls/ globes. They came from the roof of an old home from the early 1900's. And I believe are original(the original roof was replaced at the same time the lightning rods were removed) They are glass(milk glass, I believe) and have a light purple or lavender color. The approximate measurement is 4 1/4 diameter and 4 3/4 tall including ends. The ends have chipping. I have taken pictures of the globes showing both sides(see last two photos in which globes are in same order, just shifted a little in angle so that both holes can be photographed) The globes are also dirty(I believe from the soot of the old heating system, as there was much black soot that came down when the roof was replaced) Please feel free to ask any questions. I know they make a round metal piece that fits over the top, kind of like the top of a Christmas ornament, but I do not have those. We have removed the lightning rods and balls from our 200 year old farmhouse. I am selling some of the parts. This auction is for one lightning rod ball in good condition. It about 5 1/8" tall. 4 1/2" wide- standard size. Clear amethyst. In a ribbed and grape pattern. It is a little cloudy, mostly on the bottom half and some of the grapes. Is has normal wear on the top and bottom- chipped from moving around in the wind. This is very common for true vintage lightning rod balls. See pictures for more detail I don't know how old it is. I just know that the whole set was by Des Moines Lightning Rod Company. As I found the copper plate on the barn with their name on it. Set of 3 Matching1900's Victorian Copper Lightning Rod Weathervane & Glass Balls
Here we have for sale a real good looking set of 3 matching copper lightning rods and glass balls. These are a little over 3 ft. tall. Rods are twisted copper with super green patina and have the original bottom clamps. Points are 3 sided bayonets. The stands are thick twisted steel wires and have all feet intact. Insulators are white porcelain. One is damaged but still usable. 4- are embossed Ohio Lightning Rod Co. and 2- are embossed C.B.F.R. Balls are plain 4-1/2" white milk glass rounds. No damage to any of them. Sorry. no caps for these. Weathervane is 19" long made of aluminum. The amber glass is genuine old original. Took these down myself a few years back and had them stashed away. These are exactly as removed from a house here in Ky. Here we have for sale a real nice group of glass lightning rod balls. All 3 of these are old. Antique, and original examples. All 3 are in very nice condition with NO damage at all including the collars. All 3 are blue milk glass in color. 1- ball is embossed Hawkeye. 1- ball is embossed Electra, and 1- ball, the smaller one, is the PeeWee or Ribbed Horizontal pattern. 3 Antique orig. Milk White Lightning rod Glass Balls / Globes Stars and Moons
Here is a set of 3 original old weathervane globes. They are white milk glass with what is called the stars and moon pressings on them. They are in great original condition. They do all have a few flea bites in the glass, nothing major, as most of the globes have the flea bites in the ends. The metal caps would cover them. Being sold as is as pictured.
