Antique Cast Iron Ornate Weathervane Lightning Rod ARROW ~Looks to be Kretzer
ANTIQUE ORNATE IRON ARROW Measures 22.75" long. There are no breaks. Cracks, or repairs to this fancy old arrow. An eBay search shows me it looks just like a Kretzer but I don't see the name where it usually is. See my last photo. Don't know if they were ever unmarked or if it could wear down that much? We are not weathervane people. There is no glass. See photo 8.Should there be something there to hold the glass? We suspect so.Probably an easy fix for those accustomed to working with weathervanes.

Up for consideration is this stunning 23" Kretzer lightning rod arrow. Made of brass this arrow has a great patina. There is no damage or repairs. The glass is an NOS Kretzer glass that was very difficult to obtain. This is the only modification to this arrow. Also included is the original Kretzer brass ferrule the arrow was mounted on, this also is in great untouched condition, screws work as they should. On my other auctions this week I have listed the pendant hanger and ajax topper that were on the same rod. I personally removed them from a roof and they are new to the market. ANTIQUE TWISTED SPIRAL IRON LIGHTNING ROD COPPER FINIAL TOP KRETZER 52" TALL
This lightning rod is very old- all of the iron parts are rusty and the copper? finial has great green patina. A strong magnet does not stick to the finial. The twisted iron is one solid piece. Not wires twisted together. It measures 52 1/2" tall, has a 3 legged base, and the legs can probably be spread to make it stand on its own. The twisted rod moves freely up and down in the base guides. The finial is marked KRETZER ST. LOUIS- see photo 4. Please see the other items I have listed. Rare antique Kretzer Lightning Rod Weather Vane This is a hard to find piece with the original green"Kretzer" glass in the tail. The glass is textured on one side and"Kretzer" is reversed applied- like a decal. Not painted, to the other, smooth side. It is a gold colored lettering with a black outline. There are a few small areas where the wording has come off. There are no chips in the glass at all. The arrow is most likely painted brass as it does not attract a magnet. Kretzer St. Louis" is cast into one side. It is in very good shape with no cracks or chips. Some patina on the rod and the glass has some film/dirt on the back side. I did not want to clean this. Antique Lightning rod with tripod base stand. The lightning rod was removed from Ledbetter Grocery Store. Ledbetter, Kentucky. The tip is marked, Kretzer, St Louis. The base of the rod reads, Kretzer Shurhold, Pat Aug 19, 1919 St Louis. The twisted shaft rod measures about 6 feet long. The top of the rod's three sided tip is about 11 1/2" long total(tip is 8" The tripod mount holder is about 38" tall. The tripod has twisted metal. The man that I purchased this lightning rod was in his 80's and said that he remembered the rod mounted on the roof of the grocery store. Amazing piece of history. Included is the original brass bushing(the screw backs out just enough to slip over a pole) The screw that holds the missing piece of glass is brass and I could not loosen it with damage but. Complete Setup! Antique Kretzer Lightning Rod, Tip, & Blue Milk Glass MAST Ball
This is an awesome. And beautiful lightning rod setup. It includes a stand or brace measuring 23" tall and features two ceramic insulators. One is perfect and the other has a chip/crack, typical of these after years of use. The bottom insulator is marked"KRETZER BRAND" in raised embossing. The rod is a copper clad iron rod with beautiful patina. It measures 41" from the bottom to the tip. The tip is a nice three sided bayonet tip that retains some of its silver finish. The lightning rod ball is a Blue Milk Glass"MAST" design. It is in good condition and has aluminum caps! It has a beautiful swirl pattern and is embossed"TRADE MAST MARK REG US PAT OFF" Tha ball has no chips but DOES have one partial crack near one end of the ball. Antique Ornate Kretzer Lightning Rod and Bayonet Tip
This is an amazing. Ornate, and beautiful Kretzer lightning rod setup. It includes a superb"scroll" stand or brace with three legs curving up and around at the top to cradle the lightning rod ball(not included) The brace measures 25" tall and features two ceramic insulators. One is perfect and the other has a chip, typical of these after years of use. The insulators are marked"KRETZER BRAND" in raised embossing on both insulators. The rod is a copper clad iron rod with beautiful patina. It measures 42" from the bottom grounding rod connector(Yes. It is intact) to the tip. The tip is nice as well. Antique Vintage Kretzer Twisted Lightning Rod 69 1/2" W/ Spear Tip
For your Consideration. I have here a Very Old Antique Vintage Kretzer Twisted Lightning Rod 69 1/2" W/ Spear Tip. These came out before the all copper rods I am not sure if there was others before this style or not I do know its a Older one. Twisted Wrought Iron With Copper Spear on top Spear is 10" Long. There is rust on the rod as can be expected of this early Primitive. The rod has a 3/4" Diameter So most of the lightning balls that are around now won't fit it this requires the older lightning balls maybe even metal ones not sure. Thank you very much for looking. As pictured, there is ... morea stress crack at the"D" in"BRAND" otherwise the cap is in good condition. Overall this cap is solid and strong, use on an antique ball or for display, it's a nice cap! A clue or hint. For new collectors of lightning rod balls to remember is that authentic antique glass lightning rod balls have two openings, one on each end for the rod to run through. The openings are the same size on each end and the collars on each end are generally the same size too. There are no authentic patterns that have an overall design of"hobnail" or"spikes" or have any"etched" or"painted" surface. I would guess, to the 1800s or early 1900s. The maker name is weathered but appears to be Kretzer. The arrow is in very good condition with a terrific weathered surface and traces of black paint. This is a very tall antique steel/iron? Copper/brass tip lighting rod. This is estate fresh. In the original patina. From the rust, to the small bends where it was attached to the barn. ANTIQUE "K" KRETZER SUN COLORED AMETHYST LIGHTNING ROD BALL PURPLE Vintage
Here is an antique clear glass lightning rod ball that is embossed with a"K" I believe the K stands for Kretzer. You can decide for yourself. It has been sun colored to a purple/amethyst cast. The chemicals they used in glass back then would add a purple cast from being in the sun for so many years. This measures 5"T x 5"W. This is molded glass so there are thin seams along the sides. It does have some age/weather discoloration even though I did clean it. Staining is mainly on the one collar with light discoloration on the ball itself. One collar has very tiny chipping. The other collar has just a little bit more. It also has a little scratching on glass from storage. I'm back to selling the remainder of the collection of lightning rod balls that I purchased several years ago. These were removed off an old barn/house ... moremany years ago. Buyer pays shipping. Antique weathervane arrow maybe Kretzer
This is a really neat weathervane. She has lived a rough life but still a beauty. And very rare. There is significant damage, bullet holes and slightly bent. I say maybe a Kretzer because everything points in that direction however I have no verification. It is the more unusual arrow front, measures the prescribed 23" and most importantly both of the tabs that hold the glass in place appear to be cast with the frame. I believe that the metal in place of the glass was a homemade solution to the glass being broken out.

Wow what a rare set up that is up for bid tonight. A Rare Kretzer 3/4 inch outside diameter tube rod with bayonet point( most are 5/8 hallow tube) see photo for size and thickness of tubing. Standing about 3 feet tall take a look at this complete set up that you could add to your collection. Included is a blue milk glass raised quilt ball in great shape- minor flea bites to collars but otherwise the original Kretzer caps cover any damage- see photos of both ends. Caps are embossed Kretzer Brand- Trade Mark. Nice color blue raised quilt- no cracks or damage to ball itself. Bayonet 3 sided point about 9 1/2 inches itself- some original nickel plating left on tip. Now two items not seen often on a complete set up- the ball holders- one for the bottom with screw to set ball height on rod and one for top to prevent ball from bouncing around. I ... moretried to get photos of both(top holder has two tabs and when in place most is hidden by ball. To complete the set up is a 4 legged stand- all copper- again a rare brace or stand. See how legs are connected by viewing photo. Bottom of rod has stamped Kretzer clamp section and three part ground wire connection. I think you will be happy to add this one to your collection.
