Antique Cast Iron Ornate Weathervane Lightning Rod ARROW ~Looks to be Kretzer
ANTIQUE ORNATE IRON ARROW Measures 22.75" long. There are no breaks. Cracks, or repairs to this fancy old arrow. An eBay search shows me it looks just like a Kretzer but I don't see the name where it usually is. See my last photo. Don't know if they were ever unmarked or if it could wear down that much? We are not weathervane people. There is no glass. See photo 8.Should there be something there to hold the glass? We suspect so.Probably an easy fix for those accustomed to working with weathervanes.

ANTIQUE c.1900 CAST IRON and COPPER WEATHER VANE ARROW 28 1/2" LENGTH Great old cast iron weather vane directional arrow. Figural arrow has a center double loop where it can be placed on a lightening rod or pole. The opposing end of the arrow is thick copper and was made so an animal or figure could be mounted to it. The cast iron arrow and copper rod are riveted together in the center. This appears to be all original and is all very old but solid and free of cracks or damage. Some typical pitting in the cast iron as shown. The overall length is 28 1/2" With the arrow portion measuring about 16 inches long and the copper rod portion measuring about 12 1/2 inches long. A bit of research has informed me that Kretzer weathervanes are from the early 1900's. St. Louis seems to be the home of the manufacturer. A few years ago. My brothers and I had the ominous job of cleaning out the farm house and barns our family built in the 1890's. We were thrilled to send one of our much younger limber cousin's up on the roof of the very old house to bring down the lightning rods. Up for auction is this one-of-a-kind weather vane arrow. It has an incredible patina from being exposed to the elements for a century. I believe the front half is cast iron. the back of it is made of thick twisted wire. It is at least 100 years old. I wouldn't be surprised if it dates back to the 1800's. It measures 23" long. From a local estate. Here is a beautiful old cast iron weather vane arrow, would have fit on the old rooftop lightning rod on a house or barn. Overall length is 18.5" about 4" top to bottom. I'm guessing this was refinished at some point. The black paint looks too shiny and was probably applied over a rusty original, and the glass panel doesn't look right, probably a replacement. I purchased this Lightning Rod Arrow with Amber Textured Glass Tail Insert at a farm estate sale here in rural WV. It is a cast metal probably cast iron and has ornate decorative work. The glass ball had been broken years before and the farmer had tied the ends for the glass ball onto the arrow so I left them. They are some sort of light metal and one has a bend but can be straightened. The arrow measures 20" and I see no damage other than some oxidation and light scraping.

Fantastic piece of circa 1880's roof cresting/ lightning arrester. Beautiful Gothic stylized botanicals in heavy cast iron. Old black paint with light surface rust. The iron is in great condition with no eroded/ rusted-through parts. The last 8" on the right in the first photo is the start of another section and is held together by screws/nuts through the original mounting plates. Mounted on an old. Weathered board for display. Cresting is tough to come by, as most was taken off the roofs many years ago do to mechanical and roof issues. The finial at the end is superb. Up for auction is an antique/vintage weathervane/lightning rod arrow. Age unknown. It appears to be made out of brass. It's getting the greenish blue tint like brass and copper do over a period of time. All original and intact. It measures 17" from tip to tail. The hole is approx 3/4 in diameter. May beautiful piece that has survived with little to zero use! This cast iron vane still sports. What I believe to be, it's original black paint, and shows no signs of deterioration/rust/damage! It is also complete with its original peach colored glass pane, that is cut to match the odd shape of the frame(see pictures) The other vane I have for sale is pictured to offer a size comparison, as the vane in this auction is much larger than other examples I have had in the past, and also much more ornate.The"Shinn" vane is not part of this auction. ANTIQUE VTG COPPER CAST IRON LIGHTNING ROD WEATHERVANE AAFA FOLKART AMERICANA
This is a wonderful VINTAGE ANTIQUE LIGHTNING ROD. DIRECTIONAL WEATHERVANE WITH COUNTRY PRIMITIVE HOLLOW ROOSTER THAT HAS GREAT DETAIL. The weathervane was made for a barn or cupola and is circa 1900, if I had to guess. The directional rod seems to be cast iron, the lightning rod seems to be copper and the rooster is made of what, I think, is zinc. The weathervane is 34" tall and is 23" wide at the arrow. The bottom stand has 2 mounting holes for screws on each leg and the rooster is 10 1/4" tall and 7 1/2" wide. The weathervane is in very nice condition with a very small dent in the lightning rod and there might be a repair on the directional rod. There is a glob of something on it by the arrow. I cannot see what it is because of the paint so I am not sure. It might just be a weight. I have to say, that I did not notice ... moreit when I bought it years ago. The weathervane is a great piece of Americana and would made a great architectural addition to your home or it has many more years of being a weathervane. Here we have for sale a very ornate lightning rod weathervane shaft. This is 100% guaranteed original. The fancy iron shaft is 23" tall and fits a 3/4" sprial rod. There is a split in the seam on the rod towards the front. By the looks of the mounting holes. It had a small cow originaly. Also included is the original ferrule that this was on. It's worn thru where the vane rides at the bottom but still is usuable. Great looking old shaft and not easy to find!

Antique Victorian Era 1890s 1900s Cast Iron Lightning Rod Weathervane Farm Barn
Here we have for sale a very nice lightning rod glasstail weathervane. This vane is 18" long and fits a twisted style rod. It has the original red over clear glass with a nice fat snowflake design. There is old staining on the glass and the frame has some silver roof paint. The small nick like area visable at the top center of the glass 3rd picture. Isn't an actual nick or damage. It is actually a small cut to see which side of the glass is the red side. I have a couple other glasstails with this same"test" mark. These designs are cut with a wheel. You grind through the thin red layer exposing the clear layer and viola you have your design. If you mistakenly made a big cut on the clear side, you ruined your glass. The frame is straight with no damage. This is a darn good looking little glasstail and is worthy of the best ... morecollections.

Vtg./antique cast iron lightning rod cap
This spear shaped lightning rod finial is approx. 9 1/2" tall. The inside dia. of the cap is 1 5/8" There are 3 grounding cable attachment loops on the base and a 6 wire twist cable wrapped around the base. The only identifying mark I could find is on the bottom edge appears to be a circle with a 7 or L inside it. The piece is rustic and has definitely been used as shown in pictures above.

Antique Weathervane Arrow Front Cast Iron Heavy Unusual Lightning Rod
Up for auction is an antique weathervane arrow front measuring 14 1/2" in length. This arrow front is cast iron. Very thick, and weights 1 3/4 lbs. This arrow would probably have had a large animal for the back end. This would have been on a cast iron or possibly copper tube and would have fit into this arrow front and been secured with the set screw shown in a picture. The set screw itself is interesting in that it has a square head and is fused to the cast iron. The hole size is about 3/4" wide suggesting this weathervane fit onto a standard tube lightning rod. This antique cast iron arrow measures 22 1/2" in length. The surface does show rust and the fin which was possibly a cow or horse is missing.

VTG Antique Lightning Rod Arrow Weathervane Directional Pointer Cast Iron
Item for your consideration is a lightning rod weathervane directional made of cast iron. It is in excellent condition. It measures 18" long and 4.5" at its widest point. There have been no repairs to the piece. Great piece of Americana. All items sold as-is and as found. I obtain my items to sell from estates. Sales, thrift stores and from my own collection. Antique Mint Folk Art Copper Horse & Cast Iron Weathervane Lightning Rod Arrow
This is a wonderful antique horse weathervane. It is the real deal; not a repro. I bought this many years ago in Wisconsin at an auction. I am downsizing so I need to part with many things I have had. It is in mint condition with no damage whatsoever. The arrow rod measures 25" long. The horse measures 11" long and 9" tall. The horse is made from copper and has a lovely antique weathered patina on it. Marked(see photos) Kretzer cast iron weathervane arrow. I purchased this arrow many years ago from a collector. He told me the glass was replaced and he repaired one of the missing clips as seen in photo. Great early arrow in good old vintage condition. Kretzer type cast iron weather vane arrow. Replacement deep red glass is held in place with glue(from glue gun) Could easily be popped out if necessary. Good old condition. Please see photos.
