For sale is a vintage collectible black metal lined wood trunk. The exterior features a well patinated appearance giving it the feel of a well storied life. This trunk has heavy duty metal corners and latches. It also has some brass reinforcements. The original lock is broken and does not come with a key. The lock has been disabled and cannot lock. However, there is a loop latch that you can fit a separate pad lock to if you do need to secure the trunk. To ease carrying the trunk it has heavy leather strap handles on the side. Very unusual domed Trunk Treasure Chest that sits on its own metal stand that has paw feet The trunk can remove from stand as shown and be used separately The basic chest is constructed of wood that has been painted however the front and top are encased in sheets of embossed metal. Pictures of angels in a garden setting on each side of the top bands of studded strapping decorate the top of the piece. The Chest measures approx. 22 inches long. 12 inches wide and about 11 inches tall to the peak on the hump top. The chest is very old constructed with dove tail corners. Somewhere all the road someone lined it with old wall paper. That paper is also old as there are areas where it is coming off and very worn. It would make a nice project for someone to re line the inside with different vintage paper. There are many old age cracks and repairs. There is a center narrow piece of wood at the very center of the top that has been replaced. There is some old termite damage near the bottom. Selling off collectables for a friend. Starting with this Asian craved wood chest.Measures(35x15x15) Very nice condition,needs a good cleaning. No visible cracks or damage other than the normal were. The interior smells like cedar so i'am guessing it is lined. I am out of my comfort zone identifying any chests whether US or abroad. The carving are of sail ships on a river i believe, could be the Yangtze or Yangzi river known in China. Looking at the hardware,hinges,latch,etc. the nails tell me little in that it is not a antique,more than 100 years old) although i could be wrong. I know it was bought on Carmel,Calif. for $300.00, in the early 90's. Antique? Vintage? Black forest? Large Carved Wood Trunk Chest
Not sure of age or origin of this truck. But looks too be pretty old. Close look at carvings and some imperfections can bee seen, so i believe hand carved. Looks too have been painted an off white and then a dark stain over it in the past. Quite a few nicks and scuffs reveal this history of paint and stain. Back has a split and a piece missing from a previous repair. Some screws on the hinges look too be old flat heads and some are newer phillips heads. Has oblong round ball legs. Lid does not completely close, has a quarter inch gap in front, maybe from warping from age. Inside has removable tray insert. Wood has a strong, but pleasant smell almost like cedar, but not sure what type of wood it is. Trunk measures 30 inches wide, 18 1/2 inches tall, 16 inches deep. Please study pics too see imperfections in the piece. Could use a good cleaning ... moreand some stain touch ups. Trunk is very heavy and large, and i will keep at local pick up. In regards too shipping the best i will do is bring the trunk too a local UPS store and winning bidder must deal and pay them. Antique Vintage Large Wood Steamer Travel Storage Trunk Chest VERY LARGE 45" LON
This is one old trunk. It has brass braces at all corners and brass rivots throughout perimeter leather. The lock is still attached and all the latches operate properly. THE BOTTOM HAS A HIDDEN COMPARTMENT UNDER A FALSE BOTTOM. Both leather handles are there but split into. This antique trunk is still solid for moving and storage/show piece. VERY LARGE measurements: 45" long by 27" wide by 28" high weight approx. 65 lbs to 85 lbs
