Antique Mahogany Gentleman's Chest with Brass Hardware
There's not too much known about this peculiar box other than the name on the inside says"Exeter Change Strand London- Clark. Research indicates it was possibly Thomas Clark who resided in the Exeter Change of London from the 1750's to 1780's. This is believed to've a Gentleman's Chest that appears very old but may have been refurbished with the Red Felt inlay. The box has a secret pull pin slide out drawer on the side. A ring from a cup on top and a slight crack on the interior lid. The corners have a brass reinforcement and the sides are adorned with very unique looking Gargoyles. Trunk, 32"x19"x16", Wood with Metal Trim, Golden Studs and Brass Hardware
This beautiful trunk is made from thick plywood and is very heavy. About 40 pounds. It has numerous brass tacks on the surface and along the metal strips, and hinges which have been painted gold. The interior has also been painted- beige. There is an insert(not the original) available to the buyer if he/she wants it(if not, I'll lower the cost of shipping a tad) See the photos- it is obvious that it is too small for this large trunk. The lid opens and closes easily and remains open, in spite of evidence on the right side that a hinge may be missing. The brass clamps in the front work fine to keep it securely closed. There is no lock. The leather straps on the sides are in good condition, useful, and give authenticity to its antique status. Quite a unique trunk with a few quirks.

I believe this is made from Red Oak. It actually has multiple tones so it might be several types. I found it in Brenham. TX and took it on as a refurbishing project. It has great wood tones, good craftsmanship and brand new hardware. This piece is awesome with lots of character, a one of a kind!
