THANK YOU. Here is a stunning and very desirable approximately 150 year old antique Japanese small Choba tansu. Or merchant's chest, dating from the Meiji Era around the mid to late 1800's, featuring a lock bar in the center and classical safe compartment at the bottom right. It boasts a natural light colour with a rich honey patina, beautifully shaped hand forged iron hardware, wood peg construction and 8 drawers of various sizes that provide versatile storage options including a full width drawer at the top. It is in excellent overall condition for it's age. But has a little lock issue: as there is no key and the top drawer lock is in the closed position with the drawer open it will not shut all the way. The safe compartment has a tendency to swing open by itself since there is no key to lock it. The lock issue does NOT affect the lock bar which slides in and out of place properly. Please read the description and examine the photos for more details on the condition. Locksmiths and larger antique dealers will own sets of multiple keys to fit a broad range of locks so you should be able to get the drawer unlocked easily enough so it slides into place. With a little patience you could also find an antique key that fits right here on ebay(I can recommend a seller who regularly stocks this type of item) Other small issues worth noting are a small repair in the bottom corner of the smallest drawer just above the safe compartment. The larger top drawer is stiff to open and close due to age and needs a tweak, and one corner plate in the back is bent out of shape. Given it's age there is some wearing off of the blackening of a few small spots of the iron, and a couple of small nails are missing. Large Flat Top Steamer Trunk Nice. Sturdy well made, beautifully restored Steamer Trunk. Newly refinished in a unique antiqued brown. Oak slats have been sanded and stained in a rich red mahogany and coated with polyurethane. My goal with this one is to make it look untouched, but still have a clean usable antique. The interior is newly finished as well. Stripped, sealed and covered in a deep brown felt, no old trunk smell! The handles are original. And still look very nice. It doesn't appear to have ever had wheels on the bottom. Bottom is also refinished. Note: the top has 2 cracks. RARE 1800's Spinet Desk with Crocodile Vinyl Top. Also known as a Piano Desk. This spinet desk is from around the late 1800's, I think. I am not sure if it's cherry or mahogany. Newly refinished and topped with a crocodile vinyl and nickel plated studs. Tapered legs have nice detail. Legs remove, for economical shipping, or easy pick up. All wood ornamentation is in tact and beautiful. Does have a few gouges here and there, that have been darkened, which makes them much harder to see, looks more like a distressed look, but with minor distress. There is also a larger gouge in in the very edged at the front top, see pictures. Work surface has 2 recessed finger pulls. Work surface pulls out to 15" deep(front to back) and 24 1/4" wide. And is 27 1/4" off floor. Bi fold top gives you access to the interior and work surface. ... moreInterior has 6 cubbies. Exterior has 2 drawers. That is one on each side and 1 wide drawer across front. All drawers and lid operate smoothly. The entire desk measures: 38" wide. 18 1/2" deep(front to back) and is 32 1/2" tall when closed. Drawer measurements: 2 drawers. 1 at each side measure 16 1/4" front to back, 4" wide and 4 1/2" deep. 1 wide drawer across bottom front measures: 28 3/4" wide. 15 1/4" front to back and 1 1/2" deep. Has wood ornamentation on front, so it makes it look like a secret drawer. CHAIR: The chair seems to have the same legs. So I think it is a match. Chair measures 28 1/2" tall at back. Wood has a deep red mahogany finish, remainder of trunk is finished in deep browns, finished on the bottom also. Interior is covered in a deep brown felt. Nice sturdy piece. Doesn't look like it ever had latches, does have a lock, but no key. I have been told that a locksmith will be able to come up with a key, due to the primitive nature of the lock. It also never had wheels, like some do, and no interior trays. Has enough of a flat surface on top to hold a tray, so it could be used as a coffee or end table. This fabric is a light to medium weight linen and cotton blend ~ STUNNING design ~ This textile was part of a large bed set and dates c1870 ~ gorgeous blue ground, faded unevenly with time ~ Wonderful for timeworn projects which require great charm and character ~*~ The top of this panel has nail holes, surrounded by rust( not taken into account in the measurements, which can be cut away ~*~ Near the middle of the piece, on the right facing side are many many many very small hols, so this piece is not suitable for upholstery, and if using for decorative pillows, some areas will have to be backed for strength ... more~ There is damage near the bottom of this piece and pale marks that didn't wash. This auction is for a complete. Beautifully hand-formed pierced and engraved three-piece Middle-Eastern Solid Brass Brazier. The base/body. Fire-bowl and cover are all hand-engraved with cartouches. The base as well as fire-bowl have scalloped handles. The cover is engraved& pierced and has a beautiful crescent moon finial. This wonderful brazier is in very good condition with consideration to its age. There are few small dents around the top of the cover. It has a beautiful patina. I found one patent date on the lid stay of May 1873 which makes this awesome old humpback a 110 to 130 years old- a true antique. This trunk was structually sound when the restoration started and the metal bottom is in good solid condition. Has had multiple coats of clear applied and the three heavy duty original bottom slats.The trunk has the two original hinges which are fancy and tight and work well. There are 28 pieces of original polished hardware and has the original center lock which has been polished- no key. A new black leather lid lifter has been installed. Both the original mechanical latches are fancy, heavy duty, tight and one works poorly and one works well. There are 8 original solid oak slats in a golden oak ... morecolor on the trunk. Beautifully Carved Antique English Oak Coffer Three front raised panels are elegantly carved with fine acanthus leaf motif. The 7/8" solid top is made with breadboard ends. The 1" thick sides are panelled and beaded. The back consists of two reverse-raised panels in a 1" thick frame. The skirted bottom conceals a set of four small metal casters. The inside is all open. This piece shows beautiful rich dark brown patina throughout. This coffer took some considerable skill to build and. Although it is an antique with the usual slight bumps, it's excellent condition reflects the care with which this piece was crafted and treated through the years. Beautifully Restored 80 Year Old Stradivarius -Antique Vintage Fine Violin
For Sale is a beautiful Stradivarius handcrafted in West Germany. This violin was imported and sold by the Jackson Guldan Violin Co. in the early 1900's. The quality in this violin is extremely high. Beautiful flamed Maple as well as a tightly grained Spruce soundwood topsheet. This violin has been recently restored and refinished by Appalachian Luthiers. We are a small shop with roots that run deep in the mountains of Virginia. As a second generation luthier we now have two shops in our family. This violin was restored in our Haines. AK violin shop. When I started this project I inspected all the internal blocking and seams. The seams are perfect and there are NO repaired cracks, splits, or seperations. The finish of the violin was buffed in 3 seperate stages and a hand buffed finish was applied. The original Shellac remains on this ... moreviolin as do the scratches and minor dings that give this violin a time earned beautiful finish. The fittings were replaced with rosewood tailpiece and chinrest as well as a custom bridge. Nickel wound steel strings with brass rings complete the sound of this fine piece. This violin’s densely matched flamed Maple backplate is complemented by a tightly grained Spruce soundwood top. The result is a clear pronounced sound that is very responsive throughout its range. Mellow and defined on the“G” and“D” and bold and strong across the“A” while the“E” is extremely bright and accurate. It takes years for the soundwood in these classic violins to age and give you the mellow tones that a violinist is looking for. I believe this violin is there. This is from a collection of hat blocks acquired from the estate of a French milliner who came to the U.S. 1940s. And is a particularly beautiful one in its intricate construction and shape- it's my personal favorite of all I've offered for sale. I can't be certain of the date, but it is most likely from the late 30s/early 40s. Very solid, the form is constructed with a central"X" structure through a core cylinder, the outer shaped pieces varying in thickness from 1" to about 3/8"see photo details, difficult to describe! This is a gorgeous object with a lovely patina and it has obviously been used, so it has pin marks, a few nicks, scuffs, and discoloration toward the top(where the wood is darker) Stamped with a number"847" on side, it measures 22" circumference at base, 13" circumference ... moreat top edge, and is 6-1/4" high. This is a beautiful mask. Very Finely. Hand Carved from a heavy dark red wood. I am told it is old and in exceptional shape. There is a chip in the old man's Beard which when hung or laying on a table one would not notice that chip. It actually shows up in the pictures I have taken much more than one would ever notice. This old man has a very happy, sweet, full of wisdom look to him. I'm sure the person who carved it must have had beautiful energy about them. The man appears to me to be smiling. The colors are fantastic and it has a bit of gold gilt accenting. It measures approximately 4 1/2" l x 3 1/4" w x 3 1/4" h. It is porcelain and has a few relatively minor condition issues. The lid has a tiny hinge that needs to be re-soldered, if one chooses. I chose not to have this repaired out of concern of potential damage to the piece. The lid fits well without it. It also has a light crack on one of the sides, however, it doesn't extend far enough to compromise the integrity of the piece as well as a bit of gold loss around the upper ... moreedge(see pics 7& 8) Thanks you for your interest!
