Description This wooden cutting board is in excellent condition. It is signed by Jo hn Dunn. Beautiful hand painted by the sought after Folk Artist John Dunn. Most of his work was sold at Sturbridge Village in the 1980's. In the 1950s Peter Ompir met Warner Wrede and together the two of them painted. Signing the pieces“Peter Ompir. Peter OMPIR FIDDLER MAN Tin Round TOLE HANDPAINTED Folk Art
This is a very nice example of PETER OMPIR'S works. During his lifetime Peter Ompir was at his height in the 1970's. Ompir's work soon generated a great demand for more. And his pieces were selling in Macy's, Neiman-Marcus, Sloan's of New York, Magnin's, and Meier& Frank. In the 1970's Peter's treasures were proudly offered for sale by Harry& Velma Visse at their Corner House gift shop in Portland, Oregon. This piece measures about 12 3/8" across and 2' deep. The patina is lovely and I believe that the subject, the'Fiddler" is somewhat unusual. I love the detail of the shading and composition. There is overall small chipping in the paint all the way around the rim. I personally don't think it takes away from the Folk Art of the piece. As I have pictured, it is signed on the back ... moreby the artist, PETER OMIPR. Which by the way, means'Peter the Great' which he was as an artist. Peter Ompir Signed Tray Colonial Man with Cane
A truly unique piece from Peter Ompir of a colonial walking man. I have never seen another like it. This tin tray measures approximately 7" by 10" The piece is hand painted and signed by Peter Ompir. It is a colonial style man holding a walking cane. The painting is very well done and fine piece to have. The tin tray has some issues though. For one the tray is bent and creased about a quarter of the way down. I posted a side picture of the item so you can see the degree to which the tray is bent. Also. On both sides there is a crack, approx. three-forth of an inch, in the tin tray on both the right and left sides. The right crack also has a few chips in the paint along the crack, but they are hard to see. However, the tray must had been creased and cracked when Peter painted it because the cracks are not fresh or new. Lastly, the ... moreitem is signed on the bottom"Peter Ompir" although there is a moderate amount of wear to the bottom as shown in the picture. I suspect that this piece is one of his earlier pieces because of the type of character, the colors, and the condition of the item. Please ask any questions that you may have. The green on the box is the well know green that he uses in his work. Please see the pictures to see where the wood near the top of the box has a crack and where paint has chipped off. Even with the age wear of the box the art and box are still very attractive and collectable. The box measures 15 inches long-9 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches deep-The box closes smoothly and even. There is a small price sticker on the bottom of the box that I have never removed. The box was purchased in the 1960s and the sticker is most likely from then. The cup is red, and hand painted with daisies, measures 2" x 3" and is in very good condition. The plate is 5" with a adorable character carrying fruit. The sad part is, the previous owner of the plate used an adhesive to display it, and I'm not sure how to remove it without taking the paint off. So, I'm leaving it as is. This is a signed Peter Ompir cream can with strawberries around the top and pears. Apples, and grapes around the bottom. Lovely shades of gold, red, green, and purple on a blue-green background. Dimensions are 4 inches across at the bottom, 3 1/2 inches at the top, and 5 1/2 inches tall without the top handle, 6 3/4 inches tall including the top handle, 5 1/2 inches wide including the side handle. Up for your consideration is a beautiful JOHN DUNN Tin Round Canister w/ hinged lid painted. Signed John Dunn 1999. The canister is signed on the bottom(see photo's) with beautiful hearts, tulips, and scroll design circling the canister, and a ribbon scroll on the lid. The canister measures approximately 9.5" H x 9" D. I am selling my personal collection originally purchased at Steph's Folk Art. Included is small 8 page booklet, Pieces of the Past" about Peter Ompir, WC Wrede, and John Dunn written by Gary Albrecht. Vintage Folk Art Toleware Original Signed Peter Ompir Horse Equestrian
Peter ompir equestrian horse with rider. This is a very popular artist and can be seen all over the Internet. The condition of this piece is good. However it is not perfect. It does have some ware on the original drawing as well as around the outside of it. This is pretty typical for his paintings. The size of the tray is 12 inches round and is about 2 inches deep. Very nice painting specially for horse lovers and toleware lovers alike. This is a great example of Peter ompir's work. He is considered one of America's premier toleware artists and he's been christened many names as the dean of the American told where the dean of decor painting and the father of American decorative painting.
