MAW& Co FRANK REYNOLDS ARTIST/ ILLUSTRATOR COMICAL GOLF TILE. Here for sale is a Maw& Co tile. It is in excellent condition with no damage at all. There are some very feint crazing lines. Not easy to spot unless you hold it to the light. It measures 7.5 inches x 5.5 inches, but it will be a little larger if you took it out of the wooden frame. The wooden frame has some bumps& loss, but not a great deal. I have 2 other golfing tiles for sale& I will combine on postage for a discount if you buy more than one of them. Please excuse all of the light reflections. Photography is not my strong point. No cheques from International buyers. Payment in UK Sterling through paypal thank you. This magnificent tile was made by Maw and Co. Benthall Works, Broseley,Shropshire around 1875. It is part of a series of 6 tiles based on scenes from the poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow `The hanging of the Crane` which was written in 1874.The tile is moulded in very high relief and has a rich majolica glaze. It is 6 inches square and has the Maws factory marks on the back.This tile is 0.5 inches thick and is much heavier than usual.

GORGEOUS! Maw Tile Company. Red& Copper Lustre. 1870's. This tile along with similar others are being sold on seperate auction. You are bidding on ONE tile. They are from an old home in the heart of Chicago that I purchased over 25+ years ago. They are exactly as I purchased them. always plans to use them! carried them with me to four different houses! All were found in basement cellar. Once installed in fireplace surround I am sure. The tiles found were not a complete surround. There are different leaf& Floral leaf design motifs. In the style of William De Morgan. Very beautiful and bold. These tiles are AMAZING! The pictures are so difficult to take as the copper lustre and reflecting glaze mirrors reflections. You are bidding on a beautiful single coloured Relief Molded Dust Pressed Tile. Dating from the late 1800s! Measuring 6" x 6" this Beautiful tile was designed by CP Sutcliffe- a company which designed tiles at their Broughton factory between 1895 and 1901 for Maw& Co! The verso features the markings'THE BROUGHTON' ACC' H'to signify the makers as CP Sutcliffe- see below The stunning Pumpkin design sets off the striking single coloured finish of this relief molded tile- its unusual to find a tile in this deep red and it's also hard to find examples of CP Sutcliffe's work. Terrific RARE MAJOLICA tile MOYR SMITH by MAW 1870's
This is an extremely special MAJOLICA FLORAL DESIGN 6" tile. Depicting a VINE(I think? Designed by MOYR SMITH whilst working at CHRISTOPHER DRESSERS STUDIO. see ANNEMARIE STAPLETON's book on the work of MOYR SMITH) and manufactured by MAW& CO in 1870's. This design forms part of the EXTRAORDINARY PEACOCK PANEL which was displayed in the LONDON EXHIBITION OF 1871. Very striking design and stunning colours, and a most unusual design for MOYR SMITH who is better known for his PRINTED TILE SETS manufactured by MINTON. A magnificent tile! I have included an image from the above book showing a small area of the panel. Some tile collectors and experts suggest this was in fact designed by CHRISTOPHER DRESSER ONE OF BRITAIN'S most innovative and successful of designers of the period and others put the name of JP SEDDON(another ... moreARCHITECT/DESIGNER) to this design. Highly stylised floral decoration the outline in a brown stain apparently painted through a stencil and further painted with golden lustre. The manufacture of lustrewares was an unpredictable process relying on a reaction between the atmosphere in the kiln and the painted stain which results in a brilliant metallic sheen that is literally on the very surface. Beautifully moulded, and lovely glaze colours 8 in total, that have been very carefully hand applied. Maws tile manufacturers were first based in BROSELEY SHROPSHIRE, till they moved to JACKFIELD. Reverse is clearly marked MAW& CO, BENTHALL WORKS, BROSELEY, SALOP. A run of 4 of these tiles( amongst an entire collection) has recently been donated to the JACKFIELD TILE MUSEUM by the highly distinguished collector JOHN SCOTT and will hopefully be on display in a new gallery being built very soon to house this incredible collection amassed over 40 years. Each comprise of three framed ceramic tiles. Which in turn make up a peacock perched on a flowering tree. The dark mahogany frame is highlighted with a gold gilded internal band and has a felt backing. Condition Report The tiles themselves are in very good condition with no chips. There is a small amount of age related crazing but this can only be detected on close inspection. There are also a few indentations and scratches on the frames but again these do not significantly affect display. Please assess the attached photographs for confirmation of condition. Beautiful stylised red rose design from Maw& Co it may have been made for Carter& Co c1906/12 tile ref 1269 in volume 3. This cleaver 6x6 relief moulded design fills the tile with organic beauty. 19th C Maw & Co Aesthetic Glazed Tile C1880
Description This nice late 19th Century glazed pottery tile is decorated in black and brown ochre with an Aesthetic style pattern of stylized Flowers and Leaves. I believe it was made by Maw& Co. and dates to around 1880. The same design is illustrated on page 235 of"A Collector's History of English Pottery" by Griselda Lewis. The Tile is in good condition. There are some small nibbles on the edges at the top. There is a paper label with the number 147 on it, I don't know if this is a collection number or has some other significance so have not removed it. Antique Maw & Co English Encaustic Quarry Floor Tile 9'6" x 4'
English. Maw& Co. encaustic" floor tiles(pattern made of different colors of inlaid clay-also called quarry tiles I believe) from front entrance of historic New Hampshire home. Probably ~100 years old. Finish has dulled over time but in generally good condition. Removed in renovation so sub floor could be replaced. Grout had dried out so tiles came up without tools and were therefore not damaged. Though as pictures show, a few were previously removed or cut for radiator pipes. 9'6" x 4' pattern. 1/2" thick Pick up in Exeter NH(free.
