Looks like some glue may be on the side of his nose. I think it`s Bakelite. Feels like it, has weight to it, but I can`t be sure. Top and bottom edges are about 1/4" thick and sides are maybe 1/8" = not a cheaply made piece. Needs to be cleaned. Zoom on the pictures, they are the best description.
