This particular doll has holes in the feet which indicate he was standing at one ... moretime on a stand of some sort. Perhaps he was in a French wedding dome. A Globe de Mariee, surrounded by flowers. However he was displayed, he is coming to you now and one has infinite wonderful ways to display Our Little Lord with reverence and beauty. He has beautiful blue glass eyes and when I can think of the name for the glass, I will add it. His hands and legs and I guess head, are antique, but added to a newer body. He still carries his cross. His hair has loss as one can see. There are damages as told in the condition box and as one can see from the photos. Obviously, he is not for everyone, but I love him just the same. I love him all the more for his age and having survived thus far. He is a cabinet size which is very nice and I like that he is upright. One sees the traditional wax manger creche doll which is laying down, but this one is unique. Glorious Original French Creche Madonna with Child
Glorious 18 inch Creche Madonna and Child. She is gesso over carved wood with hemp body. She has her original wig. Glass eyes, open mouth with teeth and pierced ears with earrings. Her lower arms and legs are also gesso over wood and her torso is hemp with wire armature. She is in wonderful condition but is missing her ring finger on her left hand. The baby is carved wood with gesso as well with a torso of hemp and is missing two fingers. The original costumes look to be a fine silk over a heavy almost paper like substance. This is a wonderful continental mid to late 18th century French piece. Layaway can be arranged.

And. This one is a handsome fellow. He stands 11 1/2" 29 cm) tall, has glass eyes in a terracotta modeled head. Hemp-wrapped wire armature body and carved wood hands and feet. The head is especially well-sculpted with an open-closed mouth with teeth showing. Inset glass eyes and a light beard and shaved head enhanced with a"sanded" surface that gives it texture- a seldom seen technique. Based on the shape of his head and hairstyle. It may be that he once wore ... morea hat. Though this is certainly not a necessity. His sensitive hands are complete and undamaged. And his carved legs and feet are substantial. I believe that all painted surfaces are original and not retouched. But you can see a few places of paint loss on the back of his head. His vest and shirt collar appear to be original with cast metal buttons. The pants and certainly the jacket are likely later replacements trimmed with old metallic trims. Personally. If he were to stay in my collection. I would use the existing jacket as a pattern and make him something a bit more appropriate. Still what he has is working and you may decide to keep it as-is. One each for Christmas, and then some day when they moved into homes of their own, we would each have one that could be later passed down as heirlooms. We have come upon other Catholic items over the years, and we each have our favorites. The house is tiny and our dog is almost 13, and my daughters asked if they can keep a savings for a puppy in the future. So this sale is for their puppy fund. We decided to sell the Madonnas together as I bought them years ago, and someone will have an instant collection. I think that is nice. I have displayed them on the piano and always wished we had those glass globes to place over them. These are from the late 1800's I believe. They came ... morefrom Belgium. They are all hand made. These dolls, and also wax Baby Jesus dolls, were made by nuns, and are also called monastery or convent work. I photographed the bases so you can see how different each one is. One has some soft cotton batting inside her dress. The faces and hands are wax. The dresses are hand sewn and embellished, and I love the small crowns too which adorn them. The details really are amazing if you consider it. There are gold threads, and tiny sceptres, a little crowned globe, velvet, lace, and the tiny seed pearls and"jewels, all lovingly sewn on to make them beautiful for someone's home devotion. They stand approx 11.5 inches tall. Wood Carved Creche(wood with fabric plaster process) dates back to the early 18th Century. Possibly late 17th Century. It is from Europe and is part of a religious collection I purchased recently. The former owner acquired very rare and interesting religious artifacts over many years. Please check my other listings as this was a wonderful and rare find. This statue is not without issues but is interesting as it has a sacred heart that is made of metal as are the surrounding flames. It is missing an arm. Antique 15 1/2 Religious Creche Lady Figure Doll Inset Glass Eyes Late 19th C?
This figure. Which I believe is late 19th century, possibly a creche figure, is 15 1/2" tall, including the metal base. Her head and upper torso appear to be made of a clay-like material. Her hands are very lightweight, possibly papier mache, and the remainder of her arms are paper wrapped wire. She has dark brown inset glass eyes. She does not have legs, but is attached to the base by a metal post. Her lower body is formed of stuffed brown paper. She is wearing an elaborate antique gown, which, as far as I can see, is entirely hand stitched. Her hair is chipped in places, there is paint missing from her face and neck, and soil on her hands. Her silk sleeves are shredded, revealing some of the paper covering her arms,and there are tears in the bodice.
