PAYMENT IS IMMEDIATE UPON PURCHASE. If there is a display piece visible in any picture. It is NOT included unless otherwise stated. This is a large. Unique piece of vintage, primitive, Mexican folk art that feels like a brick material. It depicts three Colima dogs around a central pot or bowl. The clay pottery has a warm burnt umber and terracotta color. It measures approximately 9" wide by 8" tall by 3" mouth diameter at the rim of the bowl. It is in good shape but one of the dogs necks has a visible crack. I personally don't think it affects the wonder of this piece at all. I'm not certain of its age. There are no identifying marks on this piece either. Great find for your Mexican Folk Art collection or southwestern decor. This is a fairly heavy piece so postage will reflect that. Ancient Greek Messapian Pottery Trozella - 300 BC
An ancient Greek Messapian pottery Trozella. Dating to approximately 300 B.C. This wonderful piece is an exceptional example of the south Italic trozella. A vessel used in domestic contexts for the storage of liquids such as wine and oil. The shape is characterized by its round form and the distinctive high strap handles which have been decorated with rotelle embellishments, possibly mimicking contemporary metal wares. The body is decorated by a series of dark brown patterns over a smooth buff slip, the rim and base are coloured in similar fashion, whilst the rotelles are decorated by a series of stars. This vessel was produced by the Messapian culture. A society that inhabited the south-eastern peninsula or'heel' of Italy during the 4th century B.C. The Messapii had considerable trade and social links with mainland Greece, indeed ... moreduring this period Messapian forces were sent to aid Athens in its wars against the Sicilian city of Syracuse. The people of southern Italy during this period were far more culturally affiliated with the Greek world than that of their neighbours further north. The trozella produced by the Messapii are some of the most beautiful, elegant and highly desirable ancient Greek ceramic shapes. This piece is a particularly fine example of this remarkable form of pottery. Condition: Very good. Unrestored and intact. Height: 8 5/8 inches. Provenance: Ex. Connecticut private collection.
