DETAIL: A large and intricate silver/bronze ... morealloy(billion” ring of late Renaissance origin. Probably eighteenth or nineteenth century, provenance is Southern Russia, the Crimean Region. The Crimean, now part of present-day Ukraine, was home of the Tartars(and before them ancient Greek settlements during the first millennium B.C. across the Black Sea from what was at the time this ring was produced, the Ottoman Empire, modern day Turkey. The ring bears a very elaborate pattern on the sides of the band wrapping most all of the way around to the back of the band. The alloy is known as"billion" which is silver mixed with bronze, brass, or copper. This particular piece is of high bronze/brass/copper content, so the ring looks quite a lot like gold, enough so that it would fool a lot of people. The ring is quite substantial. And the design of the ring and the detailed metal work evidenced in the bezel and bands is very elaborate! There is however some very light wear to the sides of the band toward the back of the textured pattern, and it has been slightly flattened by wear. However all of the original embellishments are visible and intact. The ring remains very well constructed and solid. However one mi
CV Bronze Ring LADIES ROMANO-EGYPTIAN BIRD & SNAKE
BRONZE RING Super- Ladies Romano-Egyptian"Bird& Temple Snake" Size 6 1/2 Average Opening = 16.92mm Antiquities Corner is proud to present this fine historical artifact for your collecting pleasure. These artifacts were originally designed to be enjoyed by their owners and I have tried to return these treasures to a state which will both charm and enchant their new owners and show the skill and craftsmanship of old. SUPERB DESIGN! This ring comes from a find at a former Roman encampment site in Ancient Moesia and dates from around 100 to 300 A.D. The ring features a round bezel which measures 14mm and has a mirror surface which has perfect engravings. The design is expertly chiseled into the bezel face. There is a type of well done"Bird" which is above a horizontal"Rod" which has nice deep chisel marks in ... moreit and below that. There is a well done Temple Snake, writhing across the floor. Look closely at the design and you will see how nicely the teeny chisel marks all line up. This may even be some type of"Cartouche" which could be the name of the owner of this ring or the name of some God. The band is of the 1/2 round variety. There are real nice shoulder decorations which mimic the"reeded" columns heavily used in Egyptian architecture. This type of decoration style has been seen on a lot of Romano-Egyptian pieces and this ring's maker could have been influenced by this style. Rome administrated most of Egypt from the days of the death of Cleopatra's father. Ptolomy. The Nile was the"Giver of Life" to the Egyptians and many representations are found all over Egypt in both the architecture and decorative items of the land. The color and finish of this ring are both 1st Rate. I have even added a picture below that shows you the casting flaw that this ring was made with on the band. I can tell this was from a casting flaw because of the rounded ends which are formed when there is a gas bubble in the mold. I added an extra picture below to highlight
Roman Bronze Seal Ring
Roman Bronze Seal Ring internal dia: 22 mm weight: 12 gm The Roman Empire was the post-Republican period of the ancient Roman civilization. Characterised by an autocratic form of government and large territorial holdings in Europe and around the Mediterranean. The term is used to describe the Roman state during and after the time of the first emperor, Augustus. The 500-year-old Roman Republic, which preceded it, had been weakened and subverted through several civil wars. Several events are commonly proposed to mark the transition from Republic to Empire, including Julius Caesar's appointment as perpetual dictator(44 BC) the Battle of Actium(2 September 31 BC) and the Roman Senate's granting to Octavian the honorific Augustus(4 January 27 BC) Roman expansion began in the days of the Republic, but the empire reached its greatest extent ... moreunder Emperor Trajan: during his reign the Roman Empire controlled approximately 6.5 million km2 of land surface. Because of the Empire's vast extent and long endurance, the institutions and culture of Rome had a profound and lasting influence on the development of language, religion, architecture, philosophy, law, and forms of government in the territory it governed, particularly Europe, and by means of European expansionism throughout the modern world. In the late 3rd century AD, Diocletian established the practice of dividing authority between four co-emperors, in order to better secure the vast territory, putting an end to the Crisis of the Third Century. During the following decades the empire was often divided along an East/West axis. After the death of Theodosius I in 395 it was divided for the last time.8] The Western Roman Empire collapsed in 476 as Romulus Augustus was forced to abdicate by Odoacer. The Eastern Roman or Byzantine Empire ended in 1453 with the death of Constantine XI and the capture of Constantinople by the Ottoman Turks led by Mehmed II. Styles, fashions and designs of the medieval period were highly influenced by new trade with the East following the Crusades. Items of religious jewelry increased including the use of rosary beads and religious pendants. Sumptuary laws imposed in England and other European countries fiercely regulated who could wear jewelry to ensure that the upper class structure was maintained. The name Crusade was given to the Holy Wars between the Christians and the Muslims and came from old French word'crois' meaning'cross' One of the most important effects of the Crusades was on commerce as it extended the market for eastern wares in Europe. Ancient Medieval Bronze Pentagram Ring; very rare and unique!
Up for bids here is a very unique Pentagram ring from the early medieval period that is not like most of the ones out there that I have seen in the past. This one has small dots in and around the pentagram and on the sides. The ring measures 21mm in diameter. This could have some connections to the Knight's Templar but I cannot confirm this and this is only speculation at this point. But the possibilities are there considering the period and the style of this particular ring. And the side markings; which make this one rare, as they appear to be of the same type found on some Templar rings and other jewelry. Pentagrams have a very long history and is one of the oldest symbols in the ancient world. One like this one is rather rare because of the markings on the sides. Avoid the bidding war and hit"By It Now" for this great price! ... moreThanks for looking! Posted with

It is today known as'the eternal city' The Romans believed that their city was founded in the year 753 BC. Modern historians though believe it was the year 625 BC. Early Rome was governed by kings, but after only seven of them had ruled, the Romans took power over their own city and ruled themselves. They then instead had a council known as the'senate' which ruled over them. From this point on one speaks of the'Roman Republic'The word'Republic' ... moreitself comes from the Latin(the language of the Romans) words'res publica' which mean'public matters' or'matters of state' The senate under the kings had only been there to advise the king. Now the senate appointed a consul, who ruled Rome like a king, but only for one year. This was a wise idea, as like that, the consul ruled carefully and not as a tyrant, for he knew that otherwise he could be punished by the next consul, once his year was up.Rome knew four classes of people. This division was very important to the Romans. The lowest class were the slaves. They were owned by other people. They had no rights at all. The next class were the plebeians. They were free people. But they had little say at all. The second highest class were the equestrians(sometimes they are called the'knights' Their name means the'riders' as they were given a horse to ride if they were called to fight for Rome. To be an equestrian you had to be rich. The highest class were the nobles of Rome. They were called'patricians' All the real power in Rome lay with them. The Roman Republic was a very successful government. It lasted from 510 BC until 23 BC- almo

Ancient Ptolemaic Kingdom Wedjat Eye Amulet Bronze Ring 300-200 BC
About The Greek Jewelry Greek jewelry. Etruscan jewelry and other Italian jewelry made in the time between about 850 BC and about 500 BC(called the archaic period, was inspired and greatly influenced by Egyptian and Assyrian examples brought by Phoenician merchants who were crisscrossing the Mediterranean Sea by this time. The techniques remained basically the same as the earlier Egyptian and Assyrian styles though embossed or stamped plates of gold and silver became a predominant basic element. Granulation in gold continued and was developed in Etruria to a remarkable degree of delicate refinement. In the Classical Greek period. 5th and 4th centuries BC(480 BC– 338 BC) granulation went out of fashion. Enameling was re-introduced and filigree became predominant. Classic Greek jewelry was delicate and very refined. In the Classical period ... moreof ancient Greek jewelry manufacture there was little jewelry actually made in Greece itself but so splendid is its quality and technical prowess that it is considered to be miniature sculpting. And a fine expression of the breadth of the artistic creations of this `Golden Age' Flowers and tassels were a common motif for gold chain necklaces, and hoop earrings held delicate filigree discs and rosettes. Such pieces are available to the modern day collector. During the Hellenistic Age(330-27 BC) After the conquests of Alexander the Great, rather opulent gold pieces with precious and semi-precious stones became popular. Greek jewellery design and manufacture was influenced by the"new" of Oriental influences of the conquered lands as well as a revival of interest in Egyptian themes and styles. Greek jewelry of the Hellenistic Age saw small gold workings fashioned into pendant vases. Little delicate winged victories, cupids, and doves becoming common motifs. At the same time, an important innovation into Greek jewelry manufacture was the introduction of quite large colored stones, especially garnets, as a center-piece of designs. This style was copied by the Romans, who

African Tribal Ashanti Antique Cast Bronze Gold Weight King's Bull head ring
Fine Ashanti Antique(circa late 1800s) Cast Bronze Gold weight. From the old private collection of the internationally celebrated artist and ardent Africanist. This is a rare. Museum quality authentic artifact(circa late 1800s) representing a King's bull head ring. The item is in excellent antique condition. Ashanti gold weights are also named Mbramoo(sing. abramoo) This is an Ashanti gold weight. Used in the measuring of gold and gold dust, which was mined and panned in great quantities along the West Coast of Africa, hence the name Gold Coast. Gold was used in the Ashanti kingdom, now known as Ghana, in trading with outsiders, making personal adornments, and as an internal currency. Ashanti weights such as these have a variety of accoutrements such as boxes. Spoons and balances used to hold or measure out gold dust. A full kit would ... moreinclude boxes, spoons, balance and around forty weights; this was known as a futoo and carried wrapped together in cloth. The futoo would then be put into a leather container or wooden box. Or if the owner was a wealthy man, a cast-brass kuduo box. These boxes, full of gold dust, could be buried with their owners and dug up again if needed, or hidden in times of trouble. The weight itself is made of bronze or brass. Which was obtained through trade in European imports from the late 15th century onwards. Weights were cast using the lost-wax method which is still the best way of preserving fine modeling and detail. A Short History of Ashanti Gold Weights The vast gold fields of Africa have produced not only great wealth. But have generated trade and art works. Ancient Celtic Knot Bronze Ring 450-600 AD
About The Celts The Celts(usually pronounced/ˈkɛlts/ but sometimes/ˈsɛlts) or Kelts were an ethno-linguistic group of tribal societies in Iron Age and Medieval Europe who spoke Celtic languages and had a similar culture. The earliest archaeological culture that may justifiably be considered as Proto-Celtic is the Late Bronze Age Urnfield culture of central Europe from the last quarter of the second millennium BC. Their fully Celtic descendants in central Europe were the people of the Iron Age Hallstatt culture named for the rich grave finds in Hallstatt. Austria By the later La Tène period, this Celtic culture had expanded over a wide range of regions, whether by diffusion or migration: to the British Isles(Insular Celts) France and The Low Countries(Gauls) Bohemia, Poland and much of Central Europe, the Iberian Peninsula(Celtiberians, ... moreCeltici and Gallaeci) and northern Italy(Golaseccans and Cisalpine Gauls) and following the Gallic invasion of the Balkans in 279 BC as far east as central Anatolia. About This Ring This lovely Ancient Celtic bronze ring is simply elegant yet it bears such a rich history of its people and its craft. This bronze beauty was made of a single thread of bronze wire. The single wire loops to form an elegant double band. With the rest of the wire wound into an intricately laced Celtic knot bezel. A dark, natural patina is retained along with earthen encrustations in areas, especially within the Celtic knot. Celtic knots are complete loops without any beginning or end. This unending style is called pure knots. The knots vary from simple to complicated ones. The use of only one thread highlights the Celts’ belief in the interconnectedness of life and eternity. They strongly believe in the symbolism reflected in Celtic knot works from the old Celtic myths and legends. In earlier times. The elaborate designs were mainly used for decorative purposes. However, over

Several events are commonly proposed to mark the transition from Republic to Empire, including Julius Caesar's appointment as perpetual dictator(44 BC) the Battle of Actium(2 September 31 BC) and the Roman Senate's granting to Octavian the honorific Augustus(4 January 27 BC) Roman expansion began in the days of the Republic, but the ... moreempire reached its greatest extent under Emperor Trajan: during his reign the Roman Empire controlled approximately 6.5 million km2 of land surface. About The Byzantine Jewelry Byzantine jewelry was a full continuation of the Roman traditions which were kept alive behind the high walls of the new capital. Constantinople. The Roman techniques and styles continued to form the foundation of Byzantine goldsmith's skills who weren't complete copycats; some innovations such as the use of Christian iconography and further specialization of new and old techniques occurred. Production in the old jewelry centers of Alexandria and Antioch gave way to an increased production in Constantinople. Byzantine jewelry had a huge influence on the manufacturing of personal decoration in the rest of the medieval world. The Carolingian(early 742 AD) and the later Ottonian courts(start 962 AD) were linked to the Byzantine Empire and adopted their fashion resulting in the northern European Romanesque ... morejewelry style. In the Byzantine Empire jewelry played an important role. It acted as a way to express ones status and as a diplomatic tool. In 529 AD. Emperor Justinian took up laws regulating the wearing and usage of jewelry in a new set of laws, later to be called the Justinian Code. He explicitly writes that sapphires, emeralds and pearls are reserved for the emperor's use but every free man is entitled to wear a gold ring. This may tell us something about the widespread use and great popularity of jewelry. One could easily argue that there hadn't been a need for such a law if jewelry had been a purely aristocratic phenomenon. The Byzantine Empire was wealthy. It had gold mines within its borders and its geographical position was perfect for trade between the East and West. Successful traders. Military officers and high officials in the empire's administration would all have been in the position to afford luxurious jewelry. In an attempt to keep jewelry exclusive Justinian ruled that only he got to decide who wore the finest jewels by presenting his favorite'servants' with presents from the imperial workshops. It is important to note that the emperor's

The Judeans(Israelites) History Early Iron Age By the Early Iron Age. Around 1020 BCE, the Southern Levant came to be ruled by the Kingdom of Israel, and its successors, the Northern Kingdom and the Kingdom of Judah. The Northern Kingdom was conquered into the Neo-Assyrian Empire in 720 BCE. The Kingdom of Judah remained nominally independent, but paid tribute to the Assyrian Empire from 715 and throughout the first half of the 7th century BCE, regaining its independence as the Assyrian Empire declined after 640 BCE, but after 609 again fell under the sway of imperial rule, this time paying tribute at first to the Egyptians and after 601 BCE to the Neo-Babylonian Empire, until 586 BCE, when it was finally conquered by Babylonia. About The Roman Jewelry Apart from gold and other precious metals. Romans used glass to make their jewelry. Roman jewelry gives us an insight into the culture of this ancient country. Just like other ancient civilizations. Rome also had its distinct strata of social classes. In the Roman society, jewelry was worn for indicating the social status of a person and attaching pieces of clothing rather than beautification. Gold was used by the artisans and jewelers for carving the adornments and jewelry as it was believed to be the metal of the Gods and supposed to have descended from the sun. Other than gold, the materials used in jewelry making were bronze, Roman glass, bone beads and precious gemstones which were excavated from far off places like Persia, Far East, Indus Valley, etc. Diamonds, emeralds and sapphires found their way from the ... moresilk route to the Roman land to appease the rich and mighty of this civilization. About the Roman Rings Romans liked to wear big rings which drew attention and revealed the status of the wearer. A gold ring often contained a huge gemstone or Roman glass which was generally worn by the Senators and the bureaucrats. The common people referred as the Plebeians were allowed to wear only rings made of iron. However. Some Plebeians were awarded the right to wear the golden rings for their bravery or special service to the state. But gradually such stringent rules were relaxed during the reign of Justinian I. Women of ancient Rome were more inclined to wear multiple rings of varied materials and designs on their hands without the constraints of social classes. About This Ring This handsome bronze ring comes to us from the historically rich culture of Ancient Rome. This ring was made in faith and worship of the goddess Cybele and her consort Attis.
