VERY Rare 1880s Antique Victorian STICK & BALL FOLDUP DAYBED Predates Murphy Bed
The first Murphy bed was introduced in 1918 but this foldup daybed was manufactured by the Kenesha Crib Company in the mid 1880s(the company only existed under this name between 1882 and 1892) It has a wood frame and metal mesh wire mattress holder plus and intricate iron mechanism which allows it to open and close. The wire mesh mattress holder has been reenforced with wire(a late addition) It has two arms at the top to allow for draping the head of the bed canopy style. There are some rods missing which are available for replacement but by and large the bed is stable and the iron mechanism is working perfectly. The company's emblem is on the top of the headboard. This is a very rare and collectable piece of furniture. This is a perfect bed for a child transitioning from a crib. The lace in the photos IS NOT included with the bed. The front of this textile uses a gorgeous. White ground linen and cotton mix fabric, that has been both roller printed and block printed using hand carved wooden blocks. The colors of the front include: white ground, deep sienna brown/purple, turquoise and a lovely very muted terracotta orange tone. This front fabric is a dense weave, lovely medium to heavy weight fabric. This textile is 100% hand stitched and hand quilted with a light cotton batting between the layers. The back is covered in a lovely pale natural toned homespun linen and cotton blend fabric, lovely medium to heavy weight fabric. Rare and unique"Jenny Lind" style spindle or spool daybed from the 1920s. Has the upholstered mattress attached to the frame. There is a hole in the fabric on the left side of the bed. On the other side. It looks like the frame may be slightly pulled away from the end board-there's more gap than I see on the other three sides. See pics for better idea. Other than that, bed is in great condition for its age. White frame has some flaking/missing paint. Mattress and upholstery buttons all look great! Narrower than a twin bed and EXTREMELY heavy! It's approximately 6' long by 3' wide. There is some staining on cushions with small tear on one. The wrought iron has some rust but adds to it's charm. I'm not sure how old this bed is. Interior designer or anyone looking for an airy and classical form for their formal living room, this is a simply outstanding find. With quite fine form, the daybed lacks the bulky and overbearing appeal that too often is associated with works of the Late Classical and Empire periods. The thin scrolling profile is distinctly Neo-Grec in form, the arms in opposing S-scrolls flanking a large scrolling back rail. The loose upholstered cushion remains in good condition with just light staining and snags, as such giving it a certain vintage appeal that is attractive to some and unacceptable to others. It is deep and comfortably stuffed with down, giving it a lasting fullness throughout. The sofa rests over sabre legs over small ball feet. ... moreProbably crafted during the late 19th Century. The piece remains in excellent condition- notwithstanding the bit of looseness in the arms(and accompanying"crookedness" visible only from the side) this is an exceptional piece for anyone seeking a formal and classical solution to a living room or sunroom. Measurements: 79" long x 20 7/8" wide x 32 1/8" high to taller side; 21" high to top of the cushion Condition Report: Small stains and snags to upholstery. Oxidized scratches to the frame. As well as other scattered abrasions and dings throughout as expected with any antique. Light chipping to right leg; rear back leg has half of the ball foot chipped off. Old crack in back leg. The arms are a bit loose when lifted upward- they are very sturdy and strong and do not require restoration when it isn't being moved, but to lift upward from either side shows wiggle. We would recommend quickly re-gluing the joints eventually, but not worrisome as is; viewed from the side, you can see a slight crookedness to the arms, but this is not noticeable when looking at the sofa more generally. I have never– and I repeat NEVER– and would like to meet anyone else who has encountered ... morea period empire daybed/sleigh bed of this quality of style and stature. This bed was purchased a year and a half ago from Maine’s Queen City, Bangor, which is well-known for its woodworkers millonaires back in the 1850s-80s. Whoever originally ordered this bed obviously had a lot of class, and price was no object for them. This has to be the most unusual and nicest example of period empire furniture I’ve seen in a long time. Look at the double scroll on the headboard and footboard, the pillars coming down the head- and footboards, the large ogee mounted bracket foot on the base, extra-large bolt-in rails– it’s all just unbelievable. The original casters are still intact. The back side is similar to the front, although it has no pillars, but it does have the fancy scrollwork. This bed was hand-sanded and meticulously gone over for three days by one of my master cabinet makers. He went through and fixed all the little flaws that develop in flame mahogany over the years. Dating from the 1840s or‘50s era, this bed has to have originated in Boston or Philadelphia because it is an extremely high-end piece of stylish empire furniture. My cabinet maker went ove

Buttonholes and scalloped trim are all hand-finished. Now for measurements. The mitered corners have a depth of 7" the corresponding sides have depths of 7 1/2- 8" Overall flat length of 83" not including 3" eyelet trim at one end, by width of 58" mitered side to mitered side. Antique Oak Daybed Day Bed Nursery Bed with Mattress
I am moving back to Europe and unfortunately cannot take this Day bed back with me. I purchased this item in London at auction in February 10th. 2001 for 400 pounds sterling and I had it shipped to the US with a lot of other furniture that I purchased. The auctioneers estimate was actually 400- 600 pounds, so I got a great deal on it. Including the auction commission/ freight. In current dollars, my cost was approx. $900 for this item. As I am leaving. I am looking to recover a lot less than this- great deal for you! The bed is from between 1850- 1890 and is French. As a daybed. The bed is intended to be pushed against a wall, and has a front, and two sides, but no back of the bed. We used the bed in our nursery for our twins. And it was perfect. The bed comes with a custom made mattress that I had made in New Jersey. You can sleep on the ... morebed(our nanny did for 2 years) While the bed is solid. The carvings and workwork have to be handled with great care, and we have had to put some extra nails in to secure it. If you are looking for a central piece for a nursery. This is it! As a daybed. It is small. The bed measures corner to corner 53 inches by 80 inches. The mattress measures 45 inches by 72 inches. The top and bottom of bed measure 42 inches high. The bed is comprised of two sides and a carved front. And a low back. It is simple to build and take apart- but once apart the front particular is very fragile. This is where damage can be done. Antique Daybed approximately 1920's Very Unique
This is a unique piece that I love. It is a metal twin bed that folds open to a full. What makes it so neat is that it doesn't pull out from the bottom like a trundle bed but instead from the top down. It uses a futon style mattress that is folded over on itself in the twin position(or as lounge or sofa) and then flips open when you pull the extended frame open. This item doesn't include a mattress. It is old and not in perfect shape but it is in very good shape. The details in the headboard and foot board look almost Celtic in style. Antique late 19th century daybed
This is a beautiful late 19th c. antique daybed in the King Louis 15th style. I believe the wood is possibly a french oak. I had it reupholstered in a french linen that is in perfect condition and a new foam mattress with down padding so its firm but not at all uncomfortable to sleep on. An authentic Early American maple wood Hired Mans or daybed made in the first quarter of the 19th century. This has finely turned tiger maple posts and rails with highly figured curly grain. The original rope seat support was upgraded to a very comfortable drop-in cushion built on a wood frame filled with springs. The cushion is covered in a soft mohair velvet and shows a little wear. The only upholstery work required on this is perhaps replacing the mohair to the fabric of your choice. This measures 72 inches wide. 26 inches deep and the back is 28 inches high. The top of the cushion measures 19 inches from the floor. It is solid. Sturdy, and designed to support a lot of weight. It is an original period piece. And not made from another piece of furniture. C. 1880 Stamped"Léon ROGER" en verso Item# 409CTI20 This is a very attractive French Provincial daybed from the last quarter of the 19th century. Carved in the Louis XV taste. Though clearly with a Provincial appeal, the surfaces are highly active and wonderfully carved with floral motives highlighting all major spaces. The frame is deeply molded, this particularly bold in the swirling acanthus hand holds flanking the daybed. Constructed with permanence throughout, all joinery is tenon-mortise, most of these joints being pegged tenons. The daybed is crafted to be easily broken down into small pieces, the two sides, front and back rails all coming easily apart with four bolts and two screws. The form rests over short cabriole legs with flowers carved along the knees and ... moreterminating in scrolled French toes. The back leg is stamped with a single brand of Léon ROGER, Paris.
