Circa 1960 Mahogany with gorgeous inlays Distressing to top Locking doors and drawer Sturdy. Excellent condition, This lovely serpentine sideboard was originally crafted in England around 1960. The wood is a brilliant mahogany which has developed a rich patina over the years. It boasts a lovely grain with some very impressive lighter tones. The mahogany is also complimented by satinwood string inlay. Mahogany cross banding, and a Georgian style satinwood fan inlay. These inlays are present on the top, cabinet doors and upper drawer. The central inlay on the top is by far the most impressive. Each of the cabinets of this sideboard features working locks and the right cabinet has a removable wooden shelf. The upper central drawer also has a working lock. And the piece comes with one key. The hardware on the drawer and cabinets is solid brass that also goes with the mahogany quite well. The six legs of this sideboard are all square and tapered, and have spade feet. Overall. The condition of this piece is excellent. There are slight, dark marks to the top which appear to be intentional distressing done by the maker. The beautify of the mahogany wood combined with the serpentine shape and well used inlay is what really draws your eye, making this sideboard an excellent piece for an area where you want people to really see it. For example it would work well not only in a dining room, but also in a foyer, or often traveled hallway. Federal Server 3 Drawers Mahogany Veneer Square Tapered Legs Key C. 1875
Stunning period server. Fresh out of a local New England estate. The piece sits on four lightly tapered square legs. There are three drawers, as well as a gorgeous Mahogany top. The largest drawer features a pierced backplate. And has its original key. The locking mechanism still works. The backplate is surrounded by Neoclassical ring pulls, in a gold tone, which are repeated on each of the smaller drawerfronts. The server is in good estate condition. There is some staining to the legs. As well as a few nicks from wear. The drawers slide smoothly in and out, and feature hand finished dovetail construction, supported by small nails. The veneer has some wear to it, and there is a crack by the backplate of the largest drawer. This is purely cosmetic, and does not affect the structural integrity of the piece. Contrasting inlay work decorates the drawer fronts and cabinet doors and cascades down the front in a series of bell-shaped flowers. The top drawer has been sectioned off and lined with green velvet. Gorgeous Hepplewhite Federal style sideboard. A serpentine front and tapered legs create clean. Classic lines. Inlaid borders and designs contrast beautifully with the deep-colored mahogany finish. Two large drawers on the left and one in the center provide plenty of storage space in addition to the lower cabinet. False drawer fronts on the right open on brass hinges to provide storage for taller items. Brass drawer pulls and key surrounds. Unfortunately two of the pulls do not match, and were likely replaced at some point. This sturdy piece has dovetail joints in the drawers and mortise-and-tenon joints visible in the back. Overall. The sideboard is in very good condition. There is a dark area on the top as well as some light scratching and other wear consitent with age and use. There is also some wear to the feet. The server measures 55 1/4" wide. 21" deep, and 62" high to the top of the mirror. Speaking of the bevelled heavy mirror, which is in excellent condition, the frame has a marvelous bronze decoration in the middle that looks similiar to a cartouche; where one would expect family initials. All the wonderful bronze ormalu decorations are intact and magnificent. The Italian marble is very outstanding as well and in excellent condition. There were two(because I felt them) fleabite and I mean tiny.nicks on the edge. They are not noticable to the eye. Other than that the marble top and two flanked panels of marble are all intact, NO cracks or stain, etc.they are very nice. The three doors all have original locks. The doors are elaboratly carved. Each end having a basket of flowers and the middle looks like a shell of some kind. They were very tastefully executed. Shipping for this piece varies due to distance. Ship fees in Suffolk. The maker made this buffet by hand properly distressing and hand finishing the piece so it looks very much like a genuine antique sideboard. The top has a satinwood band and half satinwood and ebony ... morestar inlay. You will notice in a few of the pictures the top seems to have a"rippled" texture to it. The ripples run both left to right and front to back and we believe are due to the humidity change coming over from England. The piece is structurally sound and the ripples are only visible in certain lights but we wanted to disclose them as much as possible. Each panel of the cabinet features an oval flame mahogany inlay with a straight grain mahogany quartered border. The effect is quite striking. Inside the locking cabinet door is one fixed wooden shelf. This buffet sits on four spade feet. And there is some minor wear to one of the feet as shown. Overall this is a very unusual piece that is sturdy and will last for many, many years to come. It has a wide variety of possible uses in the home and could be a versatile part of your decor. This is a really amazing server. It could have been made for an exhibition. lt was made in England circa 1870. The carving on the top are superb, almost like black forest carvings. The base is serpentine. With two shelves to the center Condition is very good. It comes in 6 parts so it is easy to transport.
