The new year began well– I was offered the fabulous contents of a Victorian linen cupboard and a family collection of lace from a local estate. I also acquired lots of new stock from two wonderful antique textile auctions- one in SW England and another in Yorkshire. This is a nice example of a 19th century ceremonial skull cracker. Ca. 1880's. Excellent bead colors including Arapaho green, greasy yellow, white core red and opaque white. Beads are sinew sewn. The stone used for the head looks like it might have come from a stream- its a nicely formed ovoid with a very smooth surface. Wrapped in rough out leather that is beaded as seen in the photographs. Minor bead loss on the head. The shaft was initially wrapped in undyed, coarse cotton cloth, then wrapped in beads with colors as described above. There is also bead loss on the shaft- clearly seen in the pictures. About 20 1/2" long. Probably had some kind of decorative drop at one time. The handle is broken about 10" below the head. Someone tried to glue the break but did a poor job. It is definitely restorable and when restored will be ... morean iconic example of a Plains type club. TINIEST ANTIQUE HANDMADE BEADED STONE FLOWER TRIM 20" x 1/4"
This auction is for a sweet and unique antique handmade trim fragment. It consists of tiny 1/32" stone beaded flower motifs woven with what appears to be jute-like threads. The stones are in muted shades of pink. Blue and off-white with a tiny gold center. This is a rare trim which I don't believe that I have ever seen before. The beads really appear to be tiny stones, but I could be wrong. No bead looks alike in shade or size. In person, the flower motifs look so very tiny. There are areas toward the one end where there are no beads(this consists of about 1.5" My only remedy for this is to cut it and join the area that is beaded. There are also some areas throughout the trim which also do not have a flower(not that many) or some that are partially beaded, but this still does not detract. EARLY STONE HEAD BEADED PLAINS WAR CLUB SKULL CRACKER 1870'S SINEW
This is a great old club. I would guess it is from the 1870's. There are three colors of blue beads. Old white, and the red beads are white hearts. As you can err the bottom of the handle ie missing the beads. The club is very solid. The wood handle is muslin wrapped. The beads on the strap over the stone head are sinew sewn. The beads on the handle are both sinew and thread sewn. One side of the head has crystals in the stone. I have never seen another one like it. On that same side you can also see something has left a few dark stains. I have always wondered what that is. You can see what I am referring to in the fifth photo. The stone head measures 7" across. This artisan crafted estate necklace measures 19.5" long with a decorative antique-silver-tone toggle closure. It's primarily a strand of smooth round amber beads centered by a jumbo 35mm round orange-y amber bead with two 20mm orange-y amber beads with ten 16mm round and two 12mm round yellow amber beads. These are genuine amber. But I don't know if they're'pressed' amber or what, if any treatments may have been used. The amber beads alternate with various polished earth-tone stones ~agate, tiger's eye, etc~ measuring 15-18mm wide with six faceted 8mm yellow and green beads of unknown material. jadepin Offered for auction is a very old carved jade brooch on a sterling silver frame. The stone is a grayish green color in a stylized floral motif. The bezel has a twisted wire decoration and a row of stone beads that are attached by a wire around the edge. This pin has a locking clasp. And is oval in shape. It measures 1.7/8" x 1 1/4" across the widest points. It is stamped Ster-F-M on the reverse side of the sturdy frame. Though pre-owned, this appears to be without damage of any sort. I purchased these earrings several years ago on eBay. The seller represented them as Silpada. But I know they are not from the last 10 years of their designs. I do not know if they are earlier than the 2002-2003 catalog and my internet searches have not returned any information. Therefore, I cannot confirm they are from Silpada. This pair of hoop earrings are approx. 1 1/2" in diameter. The back third of the hoop has spaced small silver balls soldered to the wire while the rest of the wire is covered with multiple shapes and sizes of silver beads with an 8mm blue stone bead.
