The Twelve Caesars by Michael Grant. DESCRIPTION: Hardback with Dust Jacket: 294 pages. Publisher: Scribner's(1975) ISBN:0684144026. Michael Grant ... moreis considered the greatest popularizer of ancient history of the century. A highly successful and renowned historian of the ancient world. This book is a biography of the lives of“The Twelve Caesars” the first twelve emperors of Imperial Rome. The book examines the public and private lives of Julius Caesar and the following eleven Roman Emperors. Grant investigates the myths and legends surrounding these men and explores the effects of their public careers on their private lives. If you’re a buff or serious student of Roman History, this is a“must have” CONDITION: LINE NEW. Unblemished save for modest edge and corner shelfwear to dustjacket(including a few very small(1/4 inch) Neatly mended closed edge tears along top top edge of the dustjacket(front and back) Otherwise based on the tightness of the binding, it seems likely that the book was only flipped through a few times(but never actually read through) at worst lightly read once. Pages are pristine; clean, crisp, unmarked, unmutilated, tightly bound; though there's slight yellowing to the front end paper caused by the yellowing of the front dustjacket flap. Otherwise all pages are bright and clean. A handsome volume with only very mild purely cosmetic blemishes. Satisfaction unconditionally guaranteed. In stock, ready to ship. PLEASE SEE IMAGES BELOW FOR JACKET DESCRIPTION(S) AND FOR PAGES OF PICTURES FROM INSIDE OF BOOK. PLEASE SEE PUBLISHER. PROFESSIONAL, AND READER REVIEWS BELOW. PROFESSIONAL REVIEW: REVIEW: Conspiracy. Suspicion, power, corruption, poison, conquests, marauders, murders and more murders. Such is the history of Roman Empire. Then again there are copious examples from every nation's history of such dastardly acts to grab power, from Egyptians pharos, to Bourbons, to Indian Moguls, to British royalty. Human nature has changed very little in two thousand years. Now instead of murderi

Marcus Aurelius: Meditations(Unabridged) Edited by William Kaufman. DESCRIPTION: Softcover: 99 pages. Publisher: Dover Publications. Inc; 1997) ISBN: ... more048629823X. One of the world’s most famous and influential books. Meditations” by the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius(121-180 A.D. incorporates the stoic percepts he used to cope with his life as a warrior and administrator of an empire. Ascending to the imperial throne in 161 AD, Aurelius found his reign beset by natural disasters and war. In the wake of these challenges, he set down a series of private reflections, outlining a philosophy of commitment to virtue above pleasure and tranquility above happiness. Reflecting the emperor’s own noble and self-sacrificing code of conduct. This eloquent and moving work draws and enriches the tradition of Stoicism, which stressed the search for inner peace and ethical certainty in an apparently chaotic world. Serenity was to be achieved by emulating in one’s personal conduct the underlying orderliness and lawfulness of nature. And in the face of the inevitable pain, loss, and death; the suffering at the core of life, Aurelius counsels stoic detachment from the things that are beyond one’s control, and a focus on one’s own will and perception. Presented here in a specially modernized version of this classic George Long translation. This updated and revised edition is easily accessible to contemporary readers. It not only provides a fascinating glimpse into the mind and personality of a highly principled Roman of the second century, but also offers today’s readers a practical and inspirational guide to the challenges of everyday life. CONDITION: New. Never read. PLEASE SEE IMAGES BELOW FOR SAMPLE PAGES FROM INSIDE OF BOOK. PLEASE SEE PUBLISHER. PROFESSIONAL, AND READER REVIEWS BELOW. PUBLISHER REVIEW: REVIEW: Marcus Aurelius reigned from 161 AD to 180 AD. And was perhaps the only true philosopher-king in the history of the world. In his“Meditations” a series of notes to himself, he formulated his pantheist Stoic bel

Gold Ring shows a beautiful original patina and wear. Expected corrosion and wear are a consequence of age and extended burial. Excellent condition for this age. PLEASE ADD ME TO YOUR FAVORITES LIST* Most of my beads were found in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. To be precise they were found between Mary city(Turkmenistan) and Samarkand(Uzbekistan) That area in past was called Bactria. Nowadays there are a lot of ruins older than 2000 years in this region. I like ancient beads very much and want that other collectors will be able to obtain them without paying a lot of money. That is why my prices are very modest. I lived in Asgabat city(the capital of Turkmenistan) ... moreover 30 years. About 15 km from Asgabat there is Nisa– former residence of Alexander the Great. And capital of Parthia. In most cases the ancient beads. Not only played the role of jewelry but also the status of the person wearing them. You were able to tell the social status of an individual based on the beads they were wearing, while other used these beads as talismans protecting themselves against bad luck and the evil eye. Certain beads that have zigzagging lines are supposed to confuse the evil eye which would get lost in these lines. Beads that have the image of an eye try to just absorb the evil energy, and thus protect the person who is wearing them. Periodically the beads would be washed in salt water, because it is believe the salt water kills the negative energy. The image of the eye was sometimes very abstract and was more like an image of a flower, however sometimes the beads would correctly reflect the wearers eyes, including the color. Unpaid items will be automatically re listed after 21 days. ATTENTION! Most photographs have been enlarged to show details. So items may appear larger than their actual size. Ancient Roman Soldiers Solid Bronze Rings – Lot of (x3) 100-300 AD
About The Roman Jewelry Apart from gold and other precious metals. Romans used glass to make their jewelry. Roman jewelry gives us an insight into the culture of this ancient country. Just like other ancient civilizations. Rome also had its distinct strata of social classes. In the Roman society, jewelry was worn for indicating the social status of a person and attaching pieces of clothing rather than beautification. Gold was used by the artisans and jewelers for carving the adornments and jewelry as it was believed to be the metal of the Gods and supposed to have descended from the sun. Other than gold, the materials used in jewelry making were bronze, Roman glass, bone beads and precious gemstones which were excavated from far off places like Persia, Far East, Indus Valley, etc. Diamonds, emeralds and sapphires found their way from the ... moresilk route to the Roman land to appease the rich and mighty of this civilization. About This Ring This very handsome lot of three ancient Roman soldier’s bronze rings have remained incredibly solid and fully intact. And of excellent, well-preserved condition. Each ring bears its own unique character/carvings, a very smooth feel all around and a good weight, making for very comfortably worn ancient adornments today. These historically symbolic rings were each worn during a period when propriety demanded that the adult Roman male wear only one item of jewellery. Ancient Greek. As well as Roman soldiers would bury their coins for safe-keeping, much in the same way as we today when we place our money in the bank for safekeeping. The soldiers buried their coins before battle and as people were driven from their lands or even worse killed, these possessions would remain where they la for hundreds or even thousands of years on. Today excavations as well as individuals searching these cities and ancient battle grounds yield great finds. A dark. Natural patina is reta

This very impressive ancient Roman silver ring boasts a timelessly elegant design. Is fully intact and is of excellent condition. Its band is broad, bears an impeccable symmetrical form and is incredibly smooth all around, making for a very comfortable fit when worn today. On each side of its bezel are a set of three decorative silver knobs. Its deep, cup-type bezel holds securely within itself the most beautiful orange glass inlay. The Romans used glass extensively to imitate precious stones such as emerald, sardonyx, and amethyst, since glass was much easier to carve. This shade of orange would have been used to imitate the likes of a precious amber gemstone. Because amber both contains plant& animal life. It was thought to be a vessel of eternal youth. Historically, amber is tied to preservation. Roman ladies of the court played with amber, holding it in their hands and stroking it, as contact with amber was thought to guarantee a youthful look. Amber amulets and rings were worn to enhance fertility and served as a magnet to attract joy t

This very rare and exceptional piece of Roman jewellery is elegant in design and was created as a symbol of its ancient patron’s devotion of the Roman Goddess. Flora. It is made of solid bronze and its floral-shaped bezel takes centre positioning, consisting of six bronze knobbed petals and its central stamen. Its band is very thick and solid and smooth all around making this a very comfortably worn ring today, as it was when it was last worn 1,700 years ago. This ring would very likely also have been owned by a young Roman woman as a gift of blessing and/or a charm that will give her fertility and children. A dark, natural patina covers the entire surface of this ring, testament to its age and authenticity. In Roman mythology. Flora was a goddess of flowers and the season of spring. While she was otherwise a relatively minor figure in Roman mythology, being one among several fertility goddesses, her association with the spring gave her particular importance at the coming of springtime. To the average Roman, the service of the gods was a daily duty and each

The word"crystal" comes from the Greek word κρύσταλλος, ice" He supported this idea by saying that quartz is found near glaciers in the Alps, but not on volcanic mountains, and that large quartz crystals were fashioned into spheres to cool the hands. He also knew of the ability of quartz to split light into a spectrum. This idea persisted until at least the 17th century. This beautiful. Just like the Greeks. Romans used jewellery as well as amulets or talismans not just as adornment, but they often served a purpose as well. This particular piece of ancient treasure is called the’Evil Eye’ ring. Its band is very broad while its bezel is of a large, almond-shape, defined at each end. The surface of its bezel bears a thick, raised border and is adorned with a hollow middle space similar to the shape of the bezel itself. A dark, natural patina is retained along with light earthen sediment that has settled in the hollow spaces. CV Roman Bronze Ring ***NEW*** LEGION XI FLORAL CROSS PIA FIDELIS ~Thick & Solid
ROMAN BRONZE RING Awesome ring from Legion XI"Claudia Pia Fidelis" Size 9 Average Opening = 18.88mm Antiquities Corner is proud to present this fine historical artifact for your collecting pleasure. These artifacts were originally designed to be enjoyed by their owners and I have tried to return these treasures to a state which will both charm and enchant their new owners and show the skill and craftsmanship of old. Legionary Power! This ring was found at a Roman encampment site in Ancient Moesia and dates from between 300 and 400 A.D. This ring features the device of the 11th Legion which controlled the area from 100AD until the Empire eventually fell to the Barbarians. Prior to the Emperor Constantine's conversion to Christianity. The Legion had either a dolphin or dolphin and trident for their insignia. After the legion helped ... moreConstantine put down rebellions they adopted this new device. The design on the bezel is a Floral Cross over an"X" and the X is made up of four Crosses and instead of a single line to highlight the inside of each"petal" each one is filled with a row of punched dots. The newer design was adopted by the Legion after the famous battle of the Milvian Bridge. There are also decorations on each shoulder. Each shoulder has the classic"BULLET" escutcheon decoration on them that are on a lot of these Legionary rings especially the Legionary Eagle and pentagram rings. Each one also has a nice X engraved on them. This ring is a nice example of this ring type and is highly decorated. You can tell from my pictures how BEEFY this ring is. This ring is one of the most solid examples of this ring type that I have seen in quite a while. The color and shine are both first rate making this example a highly sought after design which will help to make this ring a wonderful addition to any collection. Look at the shine and condition of this ring. It has excellent color and the surface is highly polished. Above are both side views against a white background I just ha

CV Roman Bronze Ring ***NEW*** SUPERB LEGIONARY SHIELD ~ Extra Solid Condition
ROMAN BRONZE RING Best Yet! Super Legionary Shield Ring! Size 8 1/2 Average Opening = 18.53mm Antiquities Corner is proud to present this fine historical artifact for your collecting pleasure. These artifacts were originally designed to be enjoyed by their owners and I have tried to return these treasures to a state which will both charm and enchant their new owners and show the skill and craftsmanship of old. This is one GORGEOUS ring! This is a Legionary"Shield" ring that was found by metal detector at a Roman Battlefield site and dates from between 100 and 300 A.D. This ring features the"E-3" shield design. It's called E-3 because that's what the main engravings on the sides of the bezel most closely resemble. Those archaeologist aren't big on imagination when it comes to naming things I guess. The ONLY ... moreproblem with this name for THIS ring is that the"E-3" design is really more of an"X" and the deepness and clarity of the design tells us that the upper and lower arms just aren't worn away. These rings are a first cousin to the popular"Diamond Shield" designs with the four sets of engraved lines arranged in a diamond pattern. These rings usually had either zig-zags. Lightning bolts, or a double row of dots running vertically through the center of the shield. This example has the double row of dots. Most of you will have seen these design engraved on a round or oval bezel and this bezel is octagonal and measures 14mm X 13mm. The thickness and roundness to the whole design makes this ring one of the best examples of this ring type that I have been able to offer in the last year. Even both sides of the band have some vertical banding remaining on them. This ring is a GREAT example of it's type and these rings are getting rarer all the time. Above and below are two more views of this nice ring in a terrific wearable size. Look at the color and shine of this BEAUTY! The picture above illustrates the shine that I was able to achieve on tonights rin

ROMAN BRONZE RING Thick& Heavy ~ Soldier's Star Shield Ring Size 8 3/4 Average Opening = 18.67mm Antiquities Corner is proud to present this fine historical artifact for your collecting pleasure. These artifacts were originally designed to be enjoyed by their owners and I have tried to return these treasures to a state which will both charm and enchant their new owners and show the skill and craftsmanship of old. FANTASTIC! This ring was found at a Roman military encampment site in Ancient Moesia and dates from the first few centuries A.D. This ring is done in a style that is usually seen to have a shield motif engraved upon it. The engravings are clear and sharp and really stand out from the mirrorlike surface of this ring. The design almost looks like a linear and more abstract version of the"Diamond-Star" design. Instead ... moreof the narrow. More delicate engravings, This ring's engraver used bold, deep lines to lay out his design. The whole design is highlighted by the use of many triangular chisel marks. Besides that super bezel engravings. The shoulders have very many deep, linear engravings. The light really dances across the shoulder engravings and the bezel face as you move it back and forth in the sunlight. Look at all of my pictures and you will see how thick and solid the band of this ring is. The bezel is also nice in that it sits up on a flare above the band. A lot of this has to do with how the wax model for these early rings were made and so this type of ring has a more"organic" look to it. This ring is perfect for everyday wear because it is 7mm wide along the whole length and is almost 3mm thick. This ring was also cast from an alloy with a very high copper content that should let it mellow with age into that deep. Plum color with some nice purple overtones. These rings are getting more scarce all the time and finding one like this which has a simple elegance to it and with a military connection is a rare treat indeed. Above and below are two more views of this GREAT ri
