This Roman Bronze ... moreFibula was used in ancient Rome as a clothing clasp to secure tunics or cloaks on a person's body. It would have been used by both men and women. Some were made of gold or silver(if you were rich) But most were cast in bronze-like this one. This is a fine large example of a Fibula. But like many examples-it is missing the fastening pin. Specifically, it is called a"bow-style" Fibula and measures 3.12" long. It was found on the site of an ancient Roman settlement called Dacia. Which is in present day Romania. Darcia became a Roman province in the early 1st Century AD and had many forts to protect the miners who found and processed gold ore. The Romans were mostly ousted in 256 AD, so this Fibula had to date before then. It was made by an ancient blacksmith during the Golden Age of the Roman Empire about 1.800 years ago. An essential early bronze tool for every man or woman or child to have. Very Stylish at Toga Parties! Look carefully at the attached photo and you can see the unique pattern of this stylish Fibula. Because of its large size, I would suggest this one was used by a man. This Fibula was buried for almost 1.800 years, but it is in excellent condition. This Roman Bronze Fibula was used in ancient Rome as a clothing clasp to secure tunics or cloaks on a person's body. It would have been used by both men and women. Some were made of gold or silver(if you were rich) But most were cast in bronze-like this one. This is a fine large example of a Fibula. But like many examples-it is missing the fastening pin. Specifically, it is called a"bow-style" Fibula and measures 3.12" long. It was found on the site of an ancient Roman settlement called Dacia. Which is in present day Romania. Darcia became a Roman province in the early 1st Century AD and had many forts to protect the miners who found and processed gold ore.
