SUPERB ROMAN CONICAL HARNESS POSITION SLIDER - CIRCA 200 AD
A Superb Roman Bronze Harness Position Slider Circa 200 AD. This I suspect is from the Military Roman World. Leather Harness Straps would of run through this through the 4 slots to gather a harness together to keep it straight. This is a very rare and good example. Most are of a flat top design. It measures 1.7 cm high and is in great condition. UK postage has to be £3.50 due to Royal Mails silly 25 mm high rule. I offer combined postage for multiple buys. International bidders. Due to a lot of items apparently not arriving in destination countries when I post by standard airmail I have been forced now to only offer a signed for service. I appreciate that this is more expensive and for that reason I am willing to hold off on posting for up to 2 weeks from your initial payment for your first buy if you wish to bid on other items that ... moreI list in that 2 week period. This way if you do win something else it will keep your postage costs down to a minimum. IMPORTANT BELOW Please pay for your first item within 2 days of purchase and email me to let me know that you want me to hold the item for up to 2 weeks. STUNNING Roman STATUE of Goddess VICTORIA, circa 200 AD. Legion Victory, BRONZE
Up on Auction is STUNNING Roman STATUE of Goddess VICTORIA. Circa 200 AD. EXTREMELY RARE. IN STUNNING CONDITION- In ancient Roman religion. Victoria was the personified goddess of victory. She is the Roman equivalent of the Greek goddess Nike, and was associated with Bellona. She was adapted from the Sabine agricultural goddess Vacuna and had a temple on the Palatine Hill. The goddess Vica Pota was also sometimes identified with Victoria. Unlike the Greek Nike. The goddess Victoria(Latin for"victory" was a major part of Roman society. Multiple temples were erected in her honor. When her statue was removed in 382 CE by Emperor Gratianus there was much anger in Rome. She was normally worshiped by triumphant generals returning from war. Also unlike the Greek Nike. Who was known for success in athletic games such as chariot races, Victoria ... morewas a symbol of victory over death and determined who would be successful during war. Victoria appears widely on Roman coins. Jewelry, architecture, and other arts. She is often seen with or in a chariot, as in the late 18th-century sculpture representing Victory in a quadriga on the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany; Il Vittoriano" in Rome has two. Nike or Victoria was the charioteer for Zeus in his battle to over take Mount Olympus. Weight: 119.1 g Material: Bronze. Uncleaned. Just as excavated. Origins: Roman Empire. 100% Authentic- Museum Quality- Fast and professional shipping via Royal Mail. Tracking number will be provided. Good luck bidding. Ancient Roman FLAG TOP DECORATION / LEGION EAGLE / AQUILA, circa 200 AD. VICTORY
For sale is VERY LARGE. MASSIVE AND HEAVY Ancient Roman FLAG TOP DECORATION/ LEGION EAGLE/ AQUILA. Circa 200 AD. symbol of VICTORY An aquila. Or eagle, was a prominent symbol used in ancient Rome, especially as the standard of a Roman legion. A legionary known as an aquilifer. Or eagle-bearer, carried this standard. Each legion carried one eagle. The eagle was extremely important to the Roman military. Beyond merely being a symbol of a legion. A lost standard was considered an extremely grave occurrence. And the Roman military often went to great lengths to both protect a standard and to recover it if lost; for example, see the aftermath of the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, where the Romans spent decades attempting to recover the lost standards of three legions. Nice and very rare. Material: BRONZE. Uncleaned. With nice dark patina. Condition: ... moreVery fine. Just as seen on photos. NOTE: THIS IS THE TOP OF THE FLAG ONLY. THE WINNER WILL RECEIVE THE ITEM PROM THE PHOTO. Weight: 403.1g! 100% Authentic- Fast and professional shipping via Royal Mail. Tracking number will be provided. Thank you for your attention. Roman Bronze RING with HANDSHAKE, dextrarum iunctio, circa 100-200 AD. ROME VF
For sale is Roman Bronze RING with HANDSHAKE/ two hands shaking, circa 100-200 AD. The'handshakes' depicted on funerary reliefs or coins in Roman imperial times. The dextrarum iunctio(joining of the right hands) Were mainly ceremonial in function, though, expressing the strong bond, mainly between man and woman, sometimes between patrons and freedmen, not a gesture of greeting; just as the joined hands on the reverse of the coin you posted expressed the concordia exercituum, the unity of the armies, a propagandistic term of later imperial times drawing here a strong parallel to the ceremonial joining of hands in marriage I would say. The joined right hands were also more generally used as a sign of friendship, hospitality and community, though, so it wouldn't be too far fetched to say that people greeted each other the same way. ... moreNice and interesting. Material: BRONZE. Uncleaned. With nice dark patina. WEARABLE Condition: MINT. Just as seen on photos. NOTE: THE WINNER WILL RECEIVE THE ITEM PROM THE PHOTO. IN MINT CONDITION. WEARABLE. Weight: 3.1g Internal diameter: 19-21mm-100% Authentic- Fast and professional shipping via Royal Mail. Tracking number will be provided. Good luck bidding. Jason.
