Postlethwayte. A derivative of D'Anville's earlier map. Postlethwayte's map covers the entire continent from the Lesser Antilles and Panama to Cape Horn. Published in three separate panels, this map can be either joined as a single massive map as assembled, as above, in separate sections. D'Anville's map, and by extension this revision of that map by Bolton and Postlethwayte, represents a serious attempt to compile all of the accurate scientific knowledge of the South American continent available at the ... moretime. While cartographically very similar to D'Anville's map, Postlethwayte's work is a full re-engraving in which all text has been translated to English, a new cartouche of a rococo ethic incorporated, and Postlethwayte's own fascinating Anglo-centric commentary added. Description Central Asia has a rich tradition of embroidery which was developed over centuries. Wall hangings. Bed linens, home decorations were all prepared with fine embroidery for the marriage of the daughter. They were an essential part of the bride's dowry. The most important were the large hangings- the Tajiks called them"WAKK" the Uzbeks, Kashta" or"Suzani" the Kazakhs called them"Tush-kiiz" while the Kyrgyz called them"Tush-kiiz" These were embroidered by the bride, her mother or by her kinswoman and had a ritual significance and utilitarian purposes. Embroidery was practiced by all the women. It gave them an opportunity to display their skill, tastes and express their dreams and longing for marital bliss and through the motifs the women blessed the bride. The tradition of leaving a ... moresmall section unfinished was to indicate"may the marriage never end" And to bless the daughter"for a long life and never ending happiness" Kyrgyz wall hangings, Tush-kiiz" are similar to the Kazakh"Tush-kiiz" in its composition. Decorative borders edge the three sides of the panel. Historically this composition places it in the Yurt above the"Yuk" rolled blankets which it covered in an asthetic manner. Where the Tush-kiiz was hung above the bed the central part is often decorated as richly as the border, a Kazakh-Mongolian tradition. Kyrgyz words Tush-kiiz mean: Tush- opposite, kiiz- felt, indicating that originally the hangings were made from felt, typical material of the nomadic people. It is only later that woven textiles from wool, cotton, silk were available through the Great Silk Road. Tush" meant the place opposite the entrance of the Yurt, the place of honor"tor" where honored guests and elders were seated. Tush-kiiz was made not only as a nuptial present to the daughter, but also as a present for the favorite children including the sons from their mother. 1800's Antique CHINESE EMBROIDERED PANEL WALL HANGING Cranes, Flowers Red Ground
I have for auction a beautiful antique Chinese embroidered wall hanging panel in bright red with exquisite embroidery which depicts cranes. Water lillies and some Chinese letters. This panel measures approx 84" in length by 22" in width. It is lined on the back with plain cotton fabric and a dark grey floral fabric forms the borders. It comes with provenance from a former owner. The paper attached says: This Chinese wall panel was a preentation piece from Civic Officials in Yingkow, Manchuria, to the Russian Consul. In 1921 the Consulate was closed and it was then that the present owner acquired it. It is an excellent example of the old type of Chinese embroidery. On the back of the paper it supplies what looks like the history of when it was resold and to whom. The person who acquired it appears to have been a Civil Engineer in ... moreManchuria. The two cranes at the bottom of the panel measures approx. 14" tall and the largest pink flowers is approx. 9" across. It is all embroidered in fine silk in the finest of stitches. This beautiful old piece does have some issues. The silk needs to be stabilized and the panel framed for preservation. There are several splits in the silk across the panel and some of the splits near the bottom show some freying however the embroidery itself appears to be intact except for some very minor silk threads missing on a few of the stems and leaves. There are several loops or stitching on the back where it would have been hung in the Consulate. This is a rare and very beautiful piece from the 1800's which is accompanied by some provenance. S&H is at the expense of the buyer. My preferred payment is via Paypal however should you wish to use alternative payments then please ask. I try very hard to describe my vintage items. Offered for auction today. Is this wonderful brightly colored antique tribal Indian hand embroidered and quilted panel or wall hanging. It measures 31" x 30" It appears to be completely hand sewn. I really don't know the exact age of this piece because this is not my area of expertise, but I estimate that it likely dates from the late 1800's or early 1900's. Condition: some wear and deterioration to some of the embroidery. Also, the reverse side shows fiber loss and some deterioration as well. See pictures. Overall, though, sturdy and usable with bright vivid colors. A very pretty piece.

BIG RARE Emilio Pucci Silk Panel Signed Mid Century wall Sculpture Ponti Italy
This is a RARE item. It is a hand-signed pure silk wall panel by Emilio Pucci( he hand signed the face) Numbered 9/30. I've found 1 other at Rago Auctions in velvet that sold for $1250 and on page 222 of the Pucci monograph there's a 1963 panel titled'Spring' so I assume this is'Fall' from that collection. Measures 52" x 37.25" the actual print face without white border is 50.75" x 35.25" approx) It will ship UNframed- rolled in a long box, just the silk panel(it was poorly framed) Condition: the panel itself is in pretty great condition for its age- i have not cleaned this and you may feel free to dryclean it- it has some moisture stains to sides, and there are some condition issues and losses and glue stains to the white border-it was clearly framed twice at least, some very small tears.

It is in good condition for its age- there are some splits along the back. None of which have gone right through(see photo of back of panel) and there are some woodworm holes at the top end of the panel. It measures 38 cm high and 17 cm across and is a heavy piece of oak.
