PRE-COLUMBIAN TRIGONOLITHE ZEMI TAINO STONE THREE POINTER TRIGONOLITO Country: Dominican Republic(Hispaniola) Culture: Taino Period: 1000- 1400 A.D. Dimensions: ... more7-1/2" L x 3" W x 6" H(19 x 7.7 x 15.2 cm) Weight: 5 lbs. 5 oz. 2 kg. 406 gm. Description: A Taino Zemi Three pointer made of Diorite stone. The trigonolithe has the classic three points with an anthropomorphic face on one side with bent arms underneath and incised design on sides and on the reverse side. Provenance: Ex. Smith collection; presently private collection. New York, N.Y. Taino culture flourished in the Caribbean between c.1200-1500. The arrival of the Spanish in 1492 resulted in its rapid decline but objects such as this striking trigonolitos. Also known as a three-pointer, testify to high levels of craftsmanship. The Taino left no written language so our knowledge about them derives solely from archaeology and the testimonials of the Spanish settlers. Suggestions include manioc shoots(one of the main crops of the Taino) volcanoes, the roofs of Taino houses, phalluses and the human breast. None of these theories has been universally accepted and the precise origins of the shape are likely to remain a mystery. Despite this many scholars agree that these ceremonial objects were symbols of power and fertility. This seems to be supported by a letter written by Columbus in which he reports on his findings among the Taino, Equally the majority of caciques(chiefs) have three stones to which they and their people have great devotion. One they say is for the fertility of the grain and vegetables that they grow; the next for mothers to give birth without pain, and the third for the water and sun when they have need. Three-pointers were made in various sizes and have a long history that predates the Taino fluorescence. Small examp

PRE-COLUMBIAN MAYAN PENDANT. WRAPPED IN GOLD. THE REAL DEAL!
This is a pendant made from a large ancient Mayan(Olmec) green stone bead. The photo doesn't catch the colors very well. It is about 3/4 in. in diameter and about 1/2 in. thick. I had my jeweler wrap i n gold wire. Then. I suspended it from a fine rolled leather cord. The cord fit up to a 16 in. neck easily. So it is unisex. A gold chain will work for this, too. Really nice. This is a genuine antiquity and not a piece of tourist trash. It's the Real Deal from my personal collection. US sales only. No sales to bidders with private feedback.

Tribal Alva Earrings Pre Columbian Dangle Gold Tone with Black Glass Beads. Purchased these at the Metropolitan Museum of Art gift shop in NYC, circa late 1980's, made by Alva Studios(so marked) A company famous for its museum reproductions, constructed of a gold tone metal, feature a pre-Columbian figure attached to an opaque black glass bugle bead, gold tone tops are embossed with a stylized sun design, made for pierced ears, have plastic discs to secure the pin-type backs, although they look like they would be heavy. They are approximately 1/4 oz each, Size: They are 3 1/2" long. The figure is 2 1/4" long and 1/2" wide at his head. Condition: These are in very good condition with no damage. Or it can be a pin/brooch, that has a fun history, in addition to being a replica or reproduction of a pre-Columbian artifact. Sort of like a gold nugget in feel and appearance. The man who sold me this pendant/pin says it was tested and is 10k gold plated. I'm not sure what the underlying metals are. It weighs 12 grams. He purchased ... morethis for a rather large sum of money as it was part of an auction lot. And he and some other bidders hoped the little head was solid gold. Well, turns out it wasn't, but as I said, he had it tested and said it is 10k gold plated and it certainly has the appearance of gold. The face or head represented in this replica/reproduction is from the pre-Columbian culture of the Muisca and is based on that culture's metal artifacts called Tunjos. A tunjo was an offering to the gods and often represented a man. Woman or animal. Many of the original tunjos were of real gold of course and are featured in the Museo del Oro, a gold museum in Bogota, Colombia, and also in other museums throughout the world including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Just Google"Muisca tunjo" for more information. The back of the piece is marked rc. I have seen MMA reproduction jewelry marked rc. But usually along with the MMA mark. This is only marked rc, so I'm not sure it is a Metropolitan reproduction, but it could be. Or possibly from some other museum's offerings in conjunction with an exhibit. ANCIENT GOLD FIGURE, PRE COLUMBIAN FERTILITY CHARM?, TREASURE FIND, EFFIGY FIG.?
Gold tumbaga fertility figure aprox. 2"X1 1/4"X1" 62.9 g. Pre columbian? South American? Bought this some years ago on a whim in an auction that included ancient and medieval coins and artifacts of bronze silver and a couple other gold artifact. Seeing alot of Islamic coins in the lot I thought is may have been of ancient Islamic or Indian origin but when many of the items like a gold ring with a red glass stone turned out to be from the1100's along side roman fibulas 1st cent. and Islamic coins from 600 AD I new it wasn't a hoard find as advertised just a bunch of artifacts from a collection thrown together. I did have it looked at by a couple people and it was confirmed that it is old it is made of a gold alloy only used in south America called tombaga and was told it is probably from an area near Columbia given its ... morehigh gold content and is most likely a pre columbian fertility charm(which explains its rude nature) if you look between its legs in the pics. I don't no much else about it. Tumbaga is a gold copper and silver alloy that has a lower melting point then any of the metals on there own and is more malable. Its what the Spanish conquistadors were bringing back to Spain from south America after Columbus. It is NOT pure gold I was told some are as high as 90% and as low as 10% and this is most likely over 30% the rest is copper and silver. I held onto it all these years hoping one day someone would find one in Europe and I could say hey I got one of those, just fantasy though. Tumbaga was an alloy of gold and copper produced by pre-Columbian civilizations in South and Central America. The soft alloy has been. In some circumstances, found to contain as much as 97% gold, and was primarily used in the design of religious items. One reason for the metal's popularity was its ability to form an eutectic alloy- that is an alloy that melts at a lower temperature then any of its constituent metals. A mixture of 70 percent gold and 30 percent copper melts at about 1472ºF(800º
Pre-columbian Bead Lot Mayan Inca Aztec Peru Bird Human Effigies Gold ? Turquois
A very interesting collection of beads brought from Peru by a missionary in the early 1950's. I am not sure what age or time period they would be from. The stone beads appear to be from several different materials. The large ones are possibly turquoise or jade. The gold beads and effigies are of stamped metal. It's possible they have some gold content or are gold washed. As they show little signs of tarnish. I counted well over 300 beads total. The strand measures about 15" long. The face effigy measures 0.95" by 1.36" Please view our other auctions being listed over the next few days. We will be dispersing many artifacts from several recent collection acquisitions. Resin Black Gold Repro Pre-Columbian MAYAN AZTEC SHAMAN? DOUBLE FIGURINE Basket
I Dream Retro vintage. art. all things cool. For auction is what I believe to be a molded resin image of two Pre-Columbian Mayan or Aztec figurines with a basket. They are probably more likely Mayan than Aztec because of their hats. They are gold and black in color and are sitting on a black base that is 7"x 2" the bottom of the base is covered with green felt. The figures are 6 1/2" tall. They may represent gods or people; they look similar to figurines I've seen of ritual shamans. They are smiling and seem to be guarding the basket that sits between them. There is a lot of detail on this piece. Both front and back. This may be a repro of some type of ritual object, but I'm just guessing. The basket is 2 1/2" deep. The opening of the basket is 1 3/4" in diameter, but then it begins to narrow to a point, making ... morethe interior of the basket cone shaped. The figurine is in very good condition. The only thing I see are some surface scratches on the black base. This item could be used in many different ways. It is quite heavy, and would make a good paperweight or a bookend for smaller books. You could put small items, such as paper clips, in the basket and keep it on your desk. Or, you could simply display it for a one-of-a-kind conversation starter. Thanks for looking at this very unique figurine. If you have any questions. Please email me before bidding. I make every effort to describe the item as accurately and completely as possible and include pictures as well. Unless otherwise stated. I assume all items have been previously owned and are sold“as is. If you are bidding on more than one of my items, please let me know so that we can combine shipping if possible. I strive for 100% customer satisfaction. If there is a problem with your purchase. Please contact me before you return the item to see if we can resolve the issue. Colombia souvenir Pre-Columbian artifact replica Gold Museum mineral samples
Up for auction is an unusual souvenir item from the Gold Museum in Bogota. Colombia. It's a small replica of a Pre-Columbian gold artifact, done in gold tone metal, and encased in lucite, along with two samples of some sort of mineral. The mineral looks like probably some type of gold-bearing ore. It has gold flecks in it, but the piece does not identify what it is. I believe the replica artifact is possibly gold plated. It says on the back that it's"Made by Colombian Goldsmiths, but it doesn't identify the ore or the metal. One of the mineral samples looks green and translucent in places, so may be jade or emerald? The sticker on the back is clearly visible in the last photo. I don't have any more information than what it says. I don't know the vintage of this piece. I just bought it at an estate sale. Although the Moche had no writing system. They left a vivid artistic record of their beliefs and activities in beautifully modeled and painted ceramic vessels, remarkable objects of gold, silver, and copper, sumptuous textiles, and carved and inlaid bone, wood, and stone. Tens of thousands of these objects can be seen today in museums and private collections throughout the world. Unfortunately. Nearly all of them have been looted from Moche tombs by grave robbers, and thus there is no record of the grave, or the archaeological site, or even the valley from which they came. Ancient Bead Necklace With 14k Yellow Gold Spacer Beads - Pre Columbian (?)
For your consideration. A necklace of green and brick red colored stones and gold spacer beads. The necklace has an avian idol in the center and is about 16 inches long. I do not have authentication for it but it is a piece that was made by my father who had a collection of precious and semi precious beads as well as pre Columbian beads. I believe these beads are carnelian and jadeite and the center bead is also Pre Columbian. The clasp is stamped 14k and I did my best to capture the stamp in the pictures; however the stamp is very small. The spacer beads are not magnetic. The necklace was my Mother's and she rarely wore it. She usually carefully stored it in her jewelry box. Items come from a smoke free home and are kept in a pet free part of the house. But maintains malleability after being pounded. Tumbaga can be treated with a simple acid, like citric acid, to dissolve copper off the surface. Tairona Pre Columbian Tumbaga Gold Bird Avian Pendant
Tairona Pre Columbian Tumbaga Gold Bird Avian Pendant Up for bid in this auction is an old tairona pre columbian tumbaga gold bird(or avian) pendant about which I know very little- I do not know if this is an original or a reproduction piece. Furthermore I don't know how to authenticate it if it is the real thing. If it is a reproduction it is a high quality replica because the workmanship on the pendant is very good. For your consideration, I offer the following information: Pre-Columbian gold has always been classified by the gold content. 80% or more gold in a piece is classified as pure gold. 60-80% as fine gold. 40-60% as poor gold. Under 40% gold in a piece as Tumbaga. I tested this pendant for it's gold content using acid. The result was that the gold content of this pendant is 9k to 10k gold, which means it is about 40% 41% ... moregold. I also noticed that there is a tiny bit of green oxidation on the outside rim of the bird's left eye, which suggests that copper is in the metal mix of the pendant, but I have no idea how much copper is in the mix. Also, I have no idea of what the percentage of silver is in this pendant, or if there is any silver in the metal mix at all. The pendant weighs 14 grams. And is not marked in any way. The pendant measures about 1 7/8 inches tall, north to south, and measures 1 5/8 inches wide at its widest point, east to west. The pendant also has a depth of 3/4 inches deep at the bird's beak and feet. I have not polished or cleaned this pendant, I have only rubbed it gently with a soft cloth. There are fine scratches on the surface of the pendant from previous use- the scratches are not really noticeable unless you are looking for them. The large gold ring used to hang the pendant from a chain or cord is very sturdy, the ring sits above the hollowed out portion of the pendant where the body and head of the bird(including the beak)are attached. There are holes through the sides of the bird's beak which can be seen when looking at the pendant from the back, the tip o
