These gates were used to protect the cellar windows on a Victorian home in Philadelphia. They have curlicues at the top and bottom. They bow out in the center and are accented by a row of 6 iron flowers. None of them are missing or broken. On the back. At each end, there is a"C" shape with a curl at top and bottom. Antique wrought iron from prestigious New York City building! This is an extremely rare find! This antique wrought iron fence is from a renown New York City building erected in the late 1800's. The historical building still stands which was protected for over a century by this beautiful tall fence. The fence is 6 1/2 ft. tall and is all hand banded and turned the original way. The iron was well maintained with top grade protective paint. There is no rotting. Even on the bottom of the verticals. The finials are also surprisingly intact with very few, if any breaks. There are 6 posts which have ornate cast iron finials. These are used on either side of the two pairs of gates available with this lot. Each set of gates is 10 ft. wide. The posts are approximately 7 ft. tall and may need extending at the bottom depending on your installation. ... moreFour posts in this lot are for the driveway gates. There is a third set included to use with a walk way opening or gate. There is not a walkway gate included, but one can be fabricated from one of the smaller fence sections. 8' tall old iron gates from La Brea Tar Pits Los Angeles
You are bidding on this pair of gates that I picked up at a moving sale. The people told me that these came from the La Brea Tar pits in L.A. and they though they were from the 30's. I just took their word for it. I am not guaranteeing this is really where they came from and that they are that old. The locks look that old. These weigh about 150-200 lbs. My wife and I carried these. They maybe more like 150 lbs. These stand 94" tall and are 35 7/8" wide. I showed in the pics how there is one of the eye hinge that is broke off. This item is a set of antique cast iron gates. Enormous. They are each about 82" wide and 90" at highest point. These would span an opening of about 14 feet, not including posts. There is a break at one horizontal joint on bottom of one gate and another single break further up on a horizontal joint of the other gate. Hardware/closure works well. Amazing 400 year old wrought iron gates
I was told these gates were 400 years old but I can't verify for sure that they are. I do know that they are at least more than a century old as they were pinned together as done prior to electric welding They are all heavy. Solid steel with brass rosettes. They have also developed the beautiful pitting that can only be accomplished by centuries of time. Each gate is approximately 2 ft wide by 5 ft tall. Each gate weighs 100 lbs.
