RARE Estate Find: Magnificent Reliquary + 2nd Class relic St. Vincent de Paul
This magnificent reliquary with the hand painted portrait on porcelain of St. Vincent de Paul with a piece of his black habit cloth enclosed under glass in the special relic compartment. With beautifully detailed brass holding it all, was obtained at the estate sale of a very wealthy French lady in NYC. Her family said she brought it over from France years ago as she had a great devotion to the Saint of Charity. The believe it was made in the late 1800's or early 1900's by his order the Vincentians. It is 6 inches tall from base to top of cross and 3 inches wide, in excellent condition for age, a truly rare piece of devotional art with a cloth worn by the Saint. The wax seal and threads are intact and to show the age of this relic a close-up picture of the wax seal shows some deterioration with age. Another very unique feature of ... morethis Vincentians relic is that a very small medal of Our Lady has been added to the seal and threads, the family told me the lady spoke to a Vincentian father who told her it was the custom of their order in the late 1800's to add a medal of Our Lady to all relics out of respect for Our Lady and to further insure the seal was not broken. It can be free standing as the pictures show or it has a metal loop so it could be hung on the wall.
