Antique Religious Military Jesus Pocket Shrine Icon Brass Case Soldier WW1 Era
Up for auction is a very old vintage. Antique, religious Sacred Heart of Jesus miniature pocket shine in a brass case. It is very rare. The small brass case slides open to reveal the fully detailed Sacred Heart of Jesus icon that appears to be made out of a cast metal- most likely, lead. It is a very dark silver metal. The icon measures just a little over 1" in height when the case is closed. These miniature pocket shrines are often associated with Catholic soldiers who carried them for protection during war times. These pocket shrines are incredibly difficult to find and are truly a rare treasure. I have seen these before with St. Joseph, St. Anthony, and Mary but never one with a statue of Jesus. PLEASE NOTE that the statue of Jesus is damaged on the base. I really didn't even notice this until I looked at it today. Here is a nice vintage military soldier's travel pocket shrine consisting of a 1" tall statue of Saint Joseph. In a tiny 1-1/16" brass case, probably dating from WWII. The statue originally had a gold color finish, but it is mostly worn off of the higher surfaces. Pictured here is a pocket shrine from WWII era. These were typically carried by soldiers during the war. This one is nicely worn. The brass case has a little arched red window. It appears that Mary's initials have been hand carved into the brass on the front. The door opens to reveal a tiny statuette of the Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus. The statue is heavy for its size. The case measures 1-1/2" x 5/8" wide. The latch closes securely and the hinge works perfectly. There is quite a bit of wear to this piece. Please do not expect it to be perfect. Up for auction is a tiny. Antique brass, pocket travel shrine with a miniature statuette of St. Therese/Teresa. The back of the statuette is marked, Germany" This can be seen in the last photo. Other than being tarnished and having a few tiny dents on the case. I would consider it to be in very good vintage condition. The statuette of St. Theresa/Teresa has no damage of any kind. Even her very tiny cross is in perfect condition. See photos for better details and full description. This type of shrine was used during both WWI and WWII by Catholic soldiers. When soldiers arrived at their destination. These pocket shrines were placed in the spot for daily veneration. These pocket shrines were not only used by soldiers. But were often used by travelers for protection. I have seen several of the pocket shrines in the past but this is the only ... moreone I have ever seen with St.Therese. It is truly a rare find.
