Hi. Here is another beautiful reliquary and document from the estate of a French Archbishop who had a huge relic collection. This relic contains an important relic: EX CINER S. Pii V. ~ from the ashes or dust of Saint Pius V It measures 1 1/4" x 1" The wax seal and threads are perfect. Ensuring the validity of the relic. The accompanying certificate of authenticity, or authenticate, is signed by Joseph Castellani, 1852. The wax seal on the back of the relic matches perfectly to both the impressed seal on the lower left, and the large printed seal in the upper middle. The certificate measures 12" X 9" When the certificate is folded, one can see writing in Italian, S. Pio Quinto on one side, and on the other side, in a different hand S. Pio V. This is an unusually large Agnus Dei. Measuring 4 1/4" inches long, and 3 1/2" wide. This Agnus Dei comes from the reign of Pope Pius IX, and is dated 1853. On the fromt is the Agnus Dei, the Lamb of God, with the latin words ECCE AGNVS DEI QVI TOL PEC MVN ` PIVS IX PONT MAX 1853, translating to This is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, Pope Pius ix, Great Pontiff 1853. The way this Agnus Dei is set into a frame with red silk thread and a label reading Agnus Dei. Is the exact way I received if from the Archbishop's family. The way it is set up, the red threads hold the sacramental to the frame, but one is able to easily remove the disk to handle it or to turn it over and display the other side. The frame is made of metal, and silk backed board. There is a stand so the relic can stand on a table. The label AGNUS DEI is hand written in a scroll like manner, and it is covered with a layer of shellac or old shiny glue. This has preserved the colors remarkably. This auction is for a very old CLOTH RELIC. In folded paper, of POPE SAINT PIUS X, Pope of the Roman Catholic Church and canonized as a SAINT in 1954. The paper as folded measures approximately 1 3/8" x 15/16" and contains a small piece of cloth. I believe that the paper and the cloth piece are quite old, and certainly date before his 1954 canonization, and probably date from not long after his death in 1914. The folded paper with its writing in purple ink, and the cloth are both in perfect condition. POPE SAINT PIUS X. Original name Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto, born June 2, 1835- died August 20, 1914) canonized as a Saint of the Roman Catholic Church on May 29, 1954, feast day August 21, Pope from 1903 to 1914.
