Vintage Nuns Rosary- Has a reversible medal of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Merrilac. Also a reversible Skull/Ecce Homo memento mori. Hand carved.The rosary is a bit unconventionally assembled. Not sure if it was originally supposed to be this way. A couple of caveats: there are only four Pater beads and the medal and skull have three ave beads attached to a piece of chain that separates. Bishop Paul Leonard Hagarty was a beloved friend of my mother Bertha. The founder of Church-Woman Antique. He was also the first Bishop of Nassau. And served previously as Vicar Apostolic of the Bahamas Islands. His estate items are on consignment for auction thanks to a friend of St. John's Abbey, where he spent his final years. This piece weighs 18 grams and its diameter is 1.5 inches long; it dates from the 19th century and was dicovered on a fragment of rosary. Its size is 1.25 inches. And it weighs 9 grams. It is one of a handful of pilgrimage site medals, all from the private estate collection of Bertha, the founder of Church-Woman Antique. The story of the 1531 Guadalupe apparition of the Virgin Mother Mary is one of the most fascinating in all of Catholic lore. According to accounts. A poor Indian by the name of Juan Diego came across a vision of what he described as a'lady from heaven' while on a mountainside in Northwest Mexico City. According to Diego, this woman instructed him to create a temple at the site of this vision. In addition, she somehow imprinted her likeness into his cactus-cloth.
