This is another relic from the estate of a French Archbishop's extensive relic collection. This is a relic of Saint Joseph's staff or walking stick. The relic is labeled: S. Joseph Sp BM. Saint Joseph, spouse of the Virgin Mary There are no first class relics of Saint Joseph. Ancient church tradition says he was assumed into heaven. Like the Blessed Mother, but this is not church dogma. There are 3 different relics associated with and venerated for Saint Joseph; his cloak. His staff and his belt. This relic is from his staff. The main relic of his staff is encased in silver and kept in the Hermitage of Camaldoli in Central Italy. The staff St. Joseph holds comes from an apocryphal tale. According to The Golden Legend. Several men besides Joseph wanted Mary's hand in marriage. Each suitor, the story goes, was instructed by the ... morehigh priest to place a staff on an altar. The staff that Joseph brought miraculously burst into leaf, a sign that he was God's choice to be Mary's husband{compare this story with the account of Aaron's rod blossoming in Numbers 17:16-23} In artistic representations of the scene, the unsuccessful suitors are usually portrayed breaking their staffs across their knees, while Joseph holds his leafy staff. I kneel before the crucifix on my fireplace mantle and prayed to my Lord for help. Please help me! I felt the Holy Spirit rise within me, I jumped to my feet! Some items really don’t need a description. And a piece of the cross of Jesus Christ is one of them. The shard is housed in a metal case that is in great condition. There is some discoloration of the metal due to the age of the piece. But that’s on the back. The front appears very nice. The card on the inside which holds the shard is also in great shape. There doesn’t appear to be any fading or discoloration. This is truly a rare and magnificent item. This relic was given as a gift to my grandfather by the Carmelite order for his dedication and work for Mount Carmel high school in Chicago. Along with other acts. The order stood by the genuine authenticity of the relic, but we have no way to“prove it” one way or the other. But I was told, translated, the title is HOLY FACE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. THE TRUE EFFIGIES. This is framed and has 2 wax seals. Frame has wear. The Holy Face of Jesus from the image of VERONICA'S VEIL. The Veil is kept in in ST.PETERS BASILICA in Rome. This measures roughly 14" x 22" with the frame. Beautiful Antique Miniature Portrait Jesus Christ as Young Boy & On the Cross
Fascinating Antique 19th Century or Possibly earlier Miniature Double Sided Painting Portrait Brooch of Jesus as a Boy with a Glowing Crown of Flowers on His head. He is looking at a figure of what is to come later, the Crucifixion. The other side shows another figure, I am not sure who this is, I believe it could be Judas holding the bag of Silver Coins he received after the betrayal. I wanted to open the case but I could not get it open, the image is clear but the glass needs cleaning, I do not think it has been opened since it was made. The miniature measures 1 1/2" tall.
