Antique Ludwig Baumann & Co. catalogue, c. 1890s, featuring furniture, curtains, beds, mirrors, trunks, etc. The pages are numbered 215 - 356. There are ... morea few additional pages of "testimonials" as well as the original, unused order form. I didn't see an actual date/year in the catalogue but the order form has 189__ where one would write in the date. The catalogue measures 7.25" x 9.25". Someone has scratched out the number on the cover and written a new number. Not sure when or why. Some wear to covers, clean pages. I have a second catalogue from Ludwig Baumann & Co. that features a lot of lamps and other household items in a separate listing (same year/era).

TRANSLATE Arabic Chinese French German Greek Indonesian Italian Hindi Japanese Korean Swedish Portuguese Russian Spanish The Jesus Papyrus: The Most Sensational ... moreEvidence on the Origins of the Gospels since the Discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls by Carsten Peter Thiede& Matthew D'Ancona. DESCRIPTION: Hardback with Dust Jacket: 207 pages. Publisher: Weidenfeld& Nicolson; 1996) At first sight the Jesus papyrus. A few verses in Greek from St. Matthew's Gospel, could scarcely be less prepossessing. It seems little more than three tiny pieces of old paper clasped between two slides of glass in a forgotten Oxford college showcase. History does not obviously cling to it, let alone faith. Yet this ancient papyrus is one of the most important documents in the world. In one of the most astonishing scholarly claims of recent times, the German papyrologist Carsten Peter Thiede argues that this is the oldest known fragment of the New Testament in book form. His thesis has already generated controversy all over the world. According to Thiede. The Jesus papyrus, which includes no fewer than four of Christ's sayings, is the first material evidence that Saint Matthew's Gospel was written during the lifetime if eyewitnesses, that it records history as experienced by those who were there when it happened. The papyrus itself, written says Thiede forty years after the Crucifixion, or possibly even earlier, was unearthed in Upper Egypt and bequeathed to Magdalen College, Oxford, in 1901. It is conceivable therefore that it might have been read or handled by one of the"Five hundred brothers and sisters" 1 Corinthians 15:6) whom Paul says saw the resurrected Jesus. Not since the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947 has there been such a potentially important breakthrough in our understanding of Christ's time on earth. Combining immaculate scholarship and detective work. The Jesus Papyrus" is a thrilling account by Carsten Peter Thiede and Matthew d'Ancona of the discovery and what it mea

1880 VICTORIAN SOFA BED BROADSHEET - GRAVES PATENT FURNITURE BOSTON
Graves' Patent Improved Sofa Bed” Boston; Samuel Graves& Son. No date, but around 1880. DISCUSSION: A very pictorially pleasing circular illustrating 10 fancy Victorian"sofa beds" which look like fainting couches) 7 on one side and 3 on the other. These apparently looked like couches until opened when they could double as a bed for somebody you didn't really like, much like today's versions, or futons. Samuel Graves& Son was in business at least as early as 1878, when they were awarded a prize for a sofa bed which"appears to meet the wants of many in the community, and is claimed by the exhibitors as an improvement on an old device" at the 13th Massachusetts Charitable Mechanic Association Exhibition, and were still listed in Boston Almanac and Business Directory in 1891. ANTIQUE AMERICAN COLONIAL FEDERAL VICTORIAN FURNITURE BOOKS & ARTICLES GUIDE
American Furniture Craftsmen Working Prior to 1920. An Annotated Bibliography” By Charles J. Semowich. Published by the Greenwood Press in 1984. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: An essential reference because it is more or less complete(up to 1984) Although the annotations are brief. Periodical literature is included. The entries are divided into groupings of works about individual craftsmen, works about regional groups of craftsmen, general books, and trade catalogs. Everything is cross-indexed by craftsmen, author-title, and subject. The materials included in this bibliography focus on the craftsmen responsible for the creation of fine furniture. Works that give biographical information about furniture craftsmen and discuss the stylistic and aesthetic development of their art; works that examine the sociological, political, ... moreeconomic and environmental conditions within which furniture craftsmen worked, as well as furniture factories and furniture retail businesses themselves; and general works useful in the study of American furniture are cited. The bibliography consists of four main sections, the first of which deals with the life and work of individual furniture makers and designers. The second section focuses on groups of furniture craftsmen. Works of a general nature that contribute to the study of American furniture are found in section three. The fourth section contains furniture trade catalogs published by manufacturers and wholesalers for salesmen and retail stores. A two-part appendix lists furniture trade periodicals published mainly during the years 1880-1930, and manuscript repositories containing materials relevant to furniture. Three indexes- craftsman, author-title, and subject complete the volume. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 6.5"x9.5" 381 pages. CONDITION NOTES: In fine. Clean condition. Wicker Design” By Mary Whitesides. Published in Salt Lake City by Gibbs Smith in 2003. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: A pictorial survey of fine wicker furniture of the last hundred and twenty-five years and its possibilities in decorating today. Whitesides. An interior designer by trade, enlisted the aid of several specialist antique dealers and some high-style photographers to create a slick(not scholarly) glossy book filled with photos that could have come out of Architectural Digest or a decorating magazine. Lovers of wicker will find much to love here by just browsing the photographs, and the somewhat cursory text manages to contain a few nuggets as well. ANTIQUE ENGLISH VICTORIAN FURNITURE -THE REVIVAL STYLES - by Symonds & Whineray
Victorian Furniture” By R.W. Symonds& B.B. Whineray. Published in London by Country Life Ltd. in 1965. 2nd printing. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: It is not always appreciated that there were as many changes and trends in furniture design in the reign of Queen Victoria as there had been in those of the previous five sovereigns. Therefore. In the space of some 50,000 words, this book can attempt only a general survey of Victorian furniture and its use and place in the Victorian home. Discussion of any one aspect in great detail has not been possible; the Exhibitions, wood-working machinery, papier-mache and the Arts and Crafts Movement, to name but a few, are all subjects, closely connected with furniture, which have been or could have been expanded into works of their own. It is hoped, however, that enough has been ... moresaid on each subject to give a balanced picture of furniture throughout the Victorian era" Actually. B.B. Whineray protests too much. This is a well illustrated study of English Victorian era furniture which does a very good job exploring the development and influences of the styles, the methods and materials used, and the social context of the movement. Symonds, one of the leading authorities on English furniture, died during preparation of the book, and it was completed by Whineray, his assistant. Field Guide to American Victorian Furniture 1st Edition Sofa Sideboard Bookcase
I have come into possession of some nice books that I will be auctioning off now and again. This auction is for a 1st edition book titled"Field Guide to American Victorian Furniture" by Thomas H Ormsbee. This is a great smaller pocket type book that covers many facets of the Victorian furniture period in America. It covers the high end pieces that would have been found in the mansions of the time to the more common items found in the farmhouse or the small business man in the village. There are many black and white drawings as examples of the period furniture and then you get the text describing the characteristics of the piece and similar pieces of the time. The book was published in 1952 and does have a lettering system that translates into a price range for the piece. It is interesting to compare the 1952 price to what is being ... morerealized today. Believe or not some pieces have not changed much in price range. This was a former Dunkirk Free Library book but was withdrawn from the shelves in the early 1970s. It has been in a private collection since then. The book is still in pretty good condition with some foxing to the cover. Other than that it is ready for use as a research book again. If you have any other questions let me know. I will do combined shipping and if you are waiting for the conclusion of another auction please let me know. I try to respond to all questions through Ebay messaging as soon as possible. But please realize that a question posed on the last day of the auction may not get an answer. Juggling the day to day schedule of 2 high school kids and everyday life sometimes takes precedent. I can usually catch questions first thing in the morning or late at night and please be aware that I am in the Eastern Time Zone. I would also like to take a moment to ask that you please do not ask me to end or create a buy it now price(if it does not have one) on any of my auctions after they have started. I do not consider that fair to those who may have the auction in their watch list nor in the t

This book tells the story of the company from its earliest manifestations, when Gustave worked with other partners and alone, through his partnership with his brother, to Christian’s years as head ... moreof the firm and the end of his tenure.
