This listing is for an 18th Century English George II Tall Case Chest of Two over Four Drawers. Featuring original Queen Anne period brass hardware and ... moreall original locks, circa 1740-50. It is a beautiful piece with a simple form so successful commercially that it was copied in bedroom furniture for nearly 300 years, the same form being used in case pieces today. It is of outstanding craftsmanship being formed almost entirely of solid Cuban Mahogany, today a rare and restricted wood of incredible cost, known for it's dark and dense grain formations. A carved crown molding wraps around the front and sides. Repaired in numerous areas along, completing the smooth finished top of the case. The sides of the case are two boards that blind-dovetail at the top and through-dovetail at the bottom. The face of the case features two smaller drawers over four graduated larger drawers, each with full molded lips of the solid and fully original brass Queen Anne brass hardware, an original lock on every drawer(except the bottom) with many secured with original hand forged rose head nails and a few screws. Each drawer is hand dovetailed. Uniquely with graduating dovetails- the top two drawers have two dovetails, the next drawer down has three dovetails, the third down four dovetails, fourth with five dovetails and the bottom drawer with six. The top two drawers are divided by an upright bar with a half-dovetail joint penetrating the crossbar. Each drawer is divided with full dust board divisions, mahogany along the face, pine secondary woods making up the rest of the dust board. The dust board is primarily an English invention, found only infrequently on American case pieces, and conveniently protects clothing and items in drawers below from being dirtied by the drawer action. The back of the case is made up of one original board and the rest replaced. All re-secured with newer nails- a label inside on one of the replaced boards refers to a furniture depository in England. The case rests over four bracket feet, one rebuilt,

Mansion Sale: 17th Century Rare Leather Coaching Chest Coffer Mule Trunk Box
I'm selling a number of unusual items from an old Robert Adam mansion. In the very centre of London. After the last round of paintings, antiques and personal items, I'm finally getting around to the last lot, mostly from the house's grand Master Bedroom(pictured) For those who have been emailing, I'm sorry for the delay! My departure from the property was unexpectedly delayed, but I finally have a date! Many of the last items are inevitably the best, including more paintings, antiques, rugs, furniture and some personal items. MORE WILL BE ADDED IN THE COMING WEEKS. NO RESERVES and low Start Prices, so- like before- stick in a bid…you might win something very special for very little! Happy Bidding Fellow Ebayers! As with all the stuff I'm selling. I haven't had it formally valued. That's why there's a real chance ... moreyou could pick up something valuable for very little! I put them up on eBay at a low price and'let the market decide' Sometimes I win, sometimes I definitely lose. But I avoid paying the extortionate valuation costs and the ridiculous commissions and fee to auctioneers and agents. Stick in a bid…You could be lucky! Very Rare Museum Piece: A 1600s Leather Stage Coach Chest with Ancient Lock(also known as coffer. Trunk, mule trunk, Box etc) This is a very rare. Very ancient Antique Coaching Trunk or Treasure Chest! Authentic coaching trunks were leather covered, not wood, which was the most waterproof material of the day. They typically travelled OUTSIDE on the back of the coach, at the opposite end to the horses. We believe this is one of the oldest surviving examples in private hands. The lock- in itself- is a work of art. Look at that KEY! The two holes of the key have to fit into the two shafts in the lock. It works perfectly. The chest has a number of'feature' scars and ancient repairs. Which add to its character. The condition is- to say the least- remarkable for its age. The interior has been treated to protect the wood(hence the blue colour) The leathe
Antique 1790's Carved Figural Trunk Coffer Mule Chest Dovetails Hammered Nails
Original lidded coffer wood trunk. Circa 1790's. The origin is probably English. The trunk measures about 26 1/4" wide(side to side) x 13 1/2" deep x 15 1/2" tall, the box is 13" tall without the foot skirt. Highly ornate hand carvings with figural bust- very detailed. The single board lid's side pieces are attached by ten large hand hammered nails with two additional nails holding the lock hasp. The exposed nail heads are 11/16" wide. The metal lock hasp is hand hammered with rivets. The metal lock plate is hand hammered. The side pieces are attached by large dovetails. The footed skirt appears to be original to the trunk, but I am not positive. There is a modern repair to the bottom leg in one place. Please note the large and unusual nail head that attaches the bottom skirt to the trunk box. The chest is ... morein very good antique condition with numerous signs of wear and age. There are old, not active insect holes in the wood, the single board top lid has an age crack and as mentioned there is a repair to the bottom side skirt. Sold as is. FREE SHIPPING TO LOWER 48 STATES
