Front and both sides are elaborated hand painted with floral motifs. T he lock is period to the time. As would be the nails and wooden pegs used. No key for the lock though. IL- ... moreFar west Chicago suburbs) UP FOR AUCTION: A gorgeous. Vintage, Art Deco, walnut waterfall-style cedar-lined blanket or hope chest. Elegant contrasting veneer inlay work on front center. It's unmarked as to maker. I think it's likely circa early to mid-1900s. I believe it's in original condition. It has one interior. Multi-sectioned drawer on hinges(in need of minor repair-see below) It's constructed of walnut veneer with cedar lining, and secondary hardwood(s) The back is unfinished. Wonderful for storage and display or seating, it's both beautiful and superbly useful. CONDITION: Overall. I think it's in nice vintage condition. Solid and sturdy. Only the tiniest bit of veneer loss that I can see: a few tiny chips along the back edge. Minor nicks, imperfections normal to vintage furniture. It does have some flaws: 1) the top surface has superficial scratches and age-related splits in the veneer(but they seem shallow enough to me that I think just polyurethane(were the top refinished) and/or a walnut-tone pore filler would be enough to fill them for a flawless(or nearly so) top. 2) In the interior. Lid, left side, the wood affixing the screw supporting the pull-out shelf is stripped(please see photos; the drawer is just propped in place in the photo) so is in need of this repair. I'd probably suggest filling the oversized hole with wood scraps and glue to fill, then redrilling the hole(possibly a larger screw would work) this is left to the buyer. 3) The locks on these old chests pose a safety hazard to children(won't open from within; children can suffocate inside) and can't be sold with the lock in place. I've removed and discarded it. Leaving just the hardware(for aesthetics) so it simply opens and closes, and can be opened from inside. It measures 36 inches long by 24 in ches tall with the lid closed by 20 inches deep. It features a remova ble storage tray and more linens. Beddings. It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. The 5 trunks range in size from the largest measuring 40' X 24' X 22' to the smallest measuring 31' X 17' X 13' These antique trunks all have most, if not all of their original keys, drawers, as we'll as all original hardware. These trunks will be sold as a whole, or individually if requested. I had a single frog bookend that was identical to these as far as size. Bottom material, handpainted, look, quality, etc that still had the OMC foil sticker on the back, that's why I think these are by Otagiri. Base measures 4.5" d x 4.75" w. They are approx. 6" tall. No chips or cracks- very cute! There is some light brown on the right front base of one.that is under the glaze. There is also a tiny speck of black on the top of one that is also under the glaze.

This is a really cool vintage trunk made by Texas Trunks out of San Antonio Texas. There is a sticker on the back that seems to put it on united van lines in 1925! To be honest this thing is in very nice shape for something around 90 years old. All straps and buckles are intact and in great shape. The key is missing. There are some scuffs and rubs from the one or two times it looks like it was used for legitimate travel. and on the back panel the laminate is kinda separated from the plywood. You can not see this in the photo.you can only feel it when you run your hand across the back.VERY MINOR. For auction is a MATCHED SET of VINTAGE TRAVEL TRUNKS(steamers) The original owner was in the US Navy and the trunks have USN stenciling on them. They are even numbered as 1 of 2 and 2 of 2. The trunks of a Washington DC address in the stencil paint. Several period stickers. The smaller trunk has the original lining and tray. The large wardrobe trunk is in beautiful condition on the inside and it still has some of the original wooden hangers. The drawers all function and there is NO MUSTY SMELL at all. Really great looking trunks that can be used for display/decorator pieces or as a matched coffee table set. The lock on the wardrobe is busted but could be easily replaced if you need a functional lock. Both trunks still have keys. These are for local pickup only in the Washington DC area. There are some scratches& wear but all in all very good shape for it's age. After all it was used as luggage on cruise ships& hotels. There is some staining inside& pieces of tape on the lid. 2. The middle size was purchased at Marshall Fields. Pre 1950's? It has EPW handpainted on each end. The serial# is 793347. This one also has 149 New Bond St. London on the left side& 70 Champs Elysess on the right side of the main latch catch. It measures 29 3/4 L X 8 1/2" H X 18 1/8" W. There are also pieces of tape on the inside lid. There is some age related wear& scratches. It used as luggage on cruises& hotels& has some staining inside. It does have the tray. 3. The largest& newest of the three. It also has EPW handpainted on each end. The serial# is 907716. The handle has some wear. But the trunk itself has very little. This is a fairly rare pair of Castaways by Springfoot swim trunks in a gorgeous bright red color. They are in very gently used condition and are around 14" from waist to leg cuff. A very tough to find size these do not have a tag but the waist band stretches from 19"21" which would be a waist size of 38. 40 and 42. Have no pockets on the back but have a double button close as well as a zipper. These have a thin lining that is also in nearly perfect condition. Elastic is as strong as new.
