I am not positive of the boxes origin but I believe this is Folk Art. There ... moreare hand painted tulips on the edges and hand painted white flowers used in early American art. The measurements are 17 inches wide or long. 9 1/2 inches in height, and 7 1/2 inches deep. The chest/ Box weighs 11 pounds. It does have wear which is to be expected for it's age. The paint on the flowers have faded in some places, there are a few cracks on the wood, one is on the bottom(does not go all the way through, and one is on the inside of the lid. Wood shrinks with age and cracks are normal. There are a few places where wood has chipped off(one on the foot) the lock is missing and there is a heavy patina especially the places that would get the most use(by the handles. The front side has a darker patina(see 2nd picture) than the back side, it was probably sitting up against a wall and was covered on the top. The feet did have felt pads at one time. The rivets(or nails) are old type nails. It is made very well, it is very heavy and sturdy and it closes fine. It is a very beautiful piece whatever its origin is and the paint job is intricate and looks like it was very time consuming. Please email with any questions I will be glad to help. Vtg Shabby Old World Italian Style Flower Bouquets Bows Rich Hues Painted Chest
Vintage Hand Painted French Or Italian Style two drawer chest or commode ~ this chest has the most lovely Old World Feel to it because it is painted in the most beautiful rich tones of color on a deep beige golden background and it has all of the curves but creates an elegance but not a daintiness appeal ~ a drop dead gorgeous bouquet of flowers is painted in the front center extending over the two large drawers and there is an equally as lovely bouquet painted on each side ~ the bouquets are filled with many meadow flowers and the theme appears to be a deep blue in between a teal and a blue with a deep mauve rose. Off white daisy type flowers, wisps of lilac flowers, thing greenery tied with a darker blue toned with light blue center ribbon in the front bouquet and a rich tone of deep pink ribbon on the side bouquets ~ the center carving ... moredips lower and has a blue teal floral design as does the sides of the front doors- these smaller designs are quite lovely but they only accentuate the beauty of the large bouquets ~ there are two large handles on each drawer and decorative keyhole designs all a dark bronze color and metal ~ the top is very curvy and is faux painted in a medium tan tone with darker painted veining running throughout characteristic of many beautiful hand decorated pieces from the 1950's time period. There are some scratches in the top wood piece which is faux painted but nothing detracting ~ there is an area where a crack seems to be wanting to form as shown in my photo at the top right side of a drawer ~ other than that. There is the typical slight chippiness to sides and feet area but this is the look and the painting is vibrant and gorgeous on the piece and nothing detracts from it's unique loveliness!
