ANTIQUE 1800'S WHITES OF UTICA STONEWARE PROSIT JUG / PITCHER NY POTTERY -RELIEF
Up for your consideration is a very early unique stoneware beer jug/ pitcher from the late 1800's classified as WHITES OF UTICA NY POTTERY PROSIT. Piece is extremely well made weighing 4 1/2 LBS and measuring 11 Inches X 8 1/2 Inches. Pitcher is very ornate with many different decorative standards and reliefs. It is very unusual to find such High Relief Molding on Whites Stoneware which makes this a highly decorative piece. Also of note is the very unusual serpent or snake handle. Each side depicts men of nobility from the time period of creation(1800's) Above each human relief lies a cobalt blue dog head on each side. These heads used to house a wire handle(which is missing) The spout is molded in the relief of a bulldog. The bottom is marked with the letter"C" or"E" or"3" The name Prosit refers to a ... moreGerman idiom that means"To your good health" or"A toast to you! This is an extremely good example of early American Pottery and are becoming harder and harder to find! A great investment piece as well as eye grabbing decorative display! Any questions please ask!

YELLOWARE Stoneware NORTH WIND FACE MILK JUG Pitcher Rockingham Bennington Glaze
DESCRIPTION: This is a yellow ware. Stoneware jug or pitcher with a drip Rockingham or Bennington style brown glaze. It measures 9" tall by 9" wide from the spout tip to handle bend. The glaze on this is stunning and was superbly placed wiping it clear of the face so it can be clearly viewed. The dark brown left in the beard highlights the depth and is a beautiful transition from the more yellow face to the richly mottled body of his paneled, eight sided, octagonal medium size pitcher. Smaller pitchers would be a creamer and larger ones would be a water pitcher. These were meant as milk ewers or imagine this in a month or so filled with your favorite iced beverage out on your deck, camping or outdoor barbeque. Rare antique mid1800s American made relief molded stoneware "Willie" jug/pitcher
We are listing this rare antique relief molded stoneware"Willie" jug from the mid 1800s. Which has an American maker's cartouche on the bottom(which I have not been able to identify) The jug is named after Robert Burn's poem of the same name, and each side of the jug shows Willie and two friends sitting and drinking together. It also has a twisted rope handle, a tree on the front and back, and a band of leaves around the neck. The cartouche on the bottom features a lion, shield(with stars and stripes) mounted by an eagle, and a unicorn. During the mid 1800s many American potters included the lion and unicorn(common Staffordshire pottery symbols) in their marks to imply an English-level of quality, but the shield and eagle make this a definite American piece(much less common than English pottery from the same time period) ... moreThe jug is 5.5 inches tall, almost 5 inches at its widest point, and has a very rustic looking finish with lots of color specks coming through. It appears the handle may have been off and put back on(or else it was roughly applied to begin with) there is a small flake off the bottom of the coat on one of the drinkers, and there are several very small mars to the finish which are hard to distinguish from the color specks coming through. We have included close up pictures of the handle and the missing flake. A rare old American piece with a nice country look to it. We can currently only accept bids on this from the United States. The United Kingdom, and Canada. Shipping to the United Kingdom and Canada will be charged at cost. Payment must be made by Paypal within three days of the auction ending.
