The mouth of the pitcher measures 6" 15.3 cm) from spout to handle and is 4 3/4" 12.1 cm) across. The"C" shaped handle is heavily sponged. There are double, overlapping, concentric circles on the inside and outside of the spout. The first row of double circles on the body match the spout, except they are not overlapping. The next two rows are divided by two double rings. The two rows have double, multi-pointed stars, that also do not overlap. There is a very similar pitcher in my yelloware book, that has black sponging over the yelloware, dates to 1810 and was made in Yorkshire. The only difference is the bottom shape. The bottom of the pitcher in the book comes down straight and this one has a"pedestal urn" shaped base. This pitcher looks to be Ironstone because the glaze is not interrupted, but if you look at the base rim, there are two areas where the earthenware pottery is showing through. Also, the weight is substantial, but an Ironstone pitcher of this size would be heavier. This pitcher is in great condition, especially considering its age and composition. There is only one thing, and is not technically damage. It has a light beige stain on the bottom that does not come through to the inside surface. There is a $1.00 charge for a new box within a larger new box and ample packing material to ensure safe delivery. International Buyers Please Note: Import duties. L209 ENGLISH GEORGIAN EARTHENWARE 1860s UN-BANDED BLUE RING SPONGEWARE PITCHER
LOT# 209 Detailed Photos. Click to enlarge. Estate Road Show. Item Description. The Estate Road Show is proud to showcase this original 1860s to 1870s English Spongeware full sized 8.5 inch tankard pitcher. In an early plain Georgian style un-banded configuration, completed in a gorgeous blue finger ring hand Dabbed finish. This classic Georgian style buff clay rimmed bottom tankard is part of the second generation Victorian highly decorative Spongeware, which is generally considered between 1855& 1875, when hand Dabbing switched to the stick spatter application finish. The early to mid Victorian Scottish/ English molded serving pieces are few and far between. Furthermore, 90% + of the wares from that era were finished in one of the four disciplines exclusively, those being Brush Stroke, Spattering, Dabbing, or Sponge Spattering(Stick ... moreSpattering) please see the history below. Our special antique is strictly early hand Dabbing and is a truly valuable collectible. Research consulted: Spongeware 1835 to 1935 Makers Marks& patterns/ by Henry E. Kelly, Arnold& Dorothy E. Kowalsky; Spongeware& Spatterware 3rd Edition/ by Kevin McConnell Spongeware is a specific decorating discipline that although can be found as early as 1820, according to some historians, officially originated in Scotland ca. 1835. The technique was amenable to early earthen wares, but would also later apply to Ironstone, and English semi porcelain, which fostered a century long love affair with the finished products. Manufactured In the numerous factories of early Industrial-era England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales the art form was well received whenever it was discovered. The term Spongeware was strictly Scottish/ English in lineage, while the term Spatterware became first associated with, and then supplanted the Spongeware reference in America. This information is taken from the classic reference by Henry Kelly and Arnold and Dorothy Kowalsky, Spongeware 1835-1935. Spongeware or Spatterware was first recorded in Scotland ca. 1835, a

Antique Spatterware Spongeware Pitcher Creamer Lot of Two Green & Cream
The smaller spatterware pitchers are for sale in this auction as one lot. The large blue spongeware pitcher is offered in a separate auction. These are similar. With cream and green glaze, unmarked on the bottom. They are 4 1/2" tall and 5 1/2" tall. The largest one has a chip on the side at the rim. It's difficult to see and was very hard to photograph. I have monkeyed with the shadows/color in one photo in hopes of showing it. Otherwise, condition is excellent on both. They are both glazed on the bottom. Please ask any questions at all prior to bidding. Your business is appreciated! Please feel free to ask any questions. The fine print: I'm guessing on the postage. Antique stoneware / spongeware pitcher, 1900
The pitcher is about 9 inches tall. The diameter at the top is about 5 inches. But the top is not perfectly round. The bottom diameter is 5.5 inches. The width of the pitcher including the handle and the spout is 7.5 inches. The outside of the pitcher has a white background with a blue sponge design of varying hues of the blue. The blue design seems to be applied in verticalish lines to the left of the handle. To the right of he handle. The design has more blue than white and is not obviously linear. The handle is solidly attached. There is no design under the handle. The handle has more white than blue. At the top of the joint where the bottom handle is attached to the pitcher. There is neither color nor glaze. The outer surface of the pitcher has a lot of small pinholes and the brown stoneware shows through. There are several larger chips ... morealso. The surface has little grit lumps that are more felt than seen. In one place. The glaze has run down from the top. The top edge has a few small chips and some brown grit in the glaze. The outer base is white with a few random blue paint marks. Pinholes, lumps, and a stain. The perimeter of the base is unpainted, and unglazed, and shows wear. Inside the pitcher is white with a bit of blue dripping at the top. There are glaze drippings down the inside surface. There are pinholes in the finish on the sides and bottom. The bottom has a spiral finish in the center. Dimensions of pitcher: 9[h] x 7.5[w] Dimensions of package: 12 x 12 x 10.5. Weight of package: 5 lb. 4 oz.

Blue and White American Spongeware Pitcher 9" Ca. 1920's 1930's
Today I am offering this nice old American blue and white spongeware pitcher. Dont know the maker. It is in good condition except for the repaired chip on the inside lip. See my photos. Please ask any questions before bidding and I will do my best to answer. Thanks, and good luck bidding! Check out all my photos. Please ask me about any specific questions or concerns. Thanks for looking and good luck. Please read my shipping statement(third paragraph below) If I have misstated anything it is due to ignorance and not intent. Most all of the items I sell are vintage. As such most have lived very long eventful lives and as such will not look brand new. Unless I state items are"NEW or MINT" there is bound to be some amount of wear and aging. Thank you for considering this item I am selling today. I have been selling antiques for more ... morethan 30 years; however. That does not qualify me as an expert on all of the items I sell. I know more about some antiques than I do about others. I ask questions and research items as much as possible. On some items I only claim to know enough to write up a simple description of the item. I am a pretty good photographer, and I always try to get a good shot of specific and overall condition and of the signatures et cetera, so take a good look at all the photographs, after all, isn’t a picture worth a thousand words? I make every effort to describe my items as clearly and accurately as possible, but I want you to be aware that vintage items do have flaws, and wear that one expects to see on old or vintage items. These flaws, wear, or even damage are sometimes difficult to see and difficult to describe in an ebay ad. If I see the problem, I assure you that I will describe the damage and if possible include a photo of that problem. I often list items that you as a collector are more familiar with than I am as a dealer, therefore you may know about possible problems and what to look for, that I may have overlooked. If you are in doubt please ask me as I want you to be satisfied with
