Description Presenting this rare Victorian circa 1870 George Jones Majolica Father Christmas pitcher decorated with holly and mistletoe sprouting from a green. Twisted branch handle onto cobalt ground. Father Christmas mask molded below the spout. Ochre border around the rim. Turquoise interior. Mottled purple base with impressed GJ mark and registration diamond. Normal crazing from age. This piece came from a large collection in Kennebunk. Maine and this was the only piece I was able to get-and it was expensive. There are no chips. There are maybe three short 1/4" lines to glaze on the inside belly that look to be effects of crazing rather than imperfections(I was not able to photograph this deeply inside the piece) Dimensions: 8" high x 6 1/4"

There is an old piece of tape on the bottom with the date of July 19th 1883. This is also able to be traced by looking at the British Registry mark on the bottom in Brown Transfer writting. See pictures for marks and visual assessment of condition) We could not find another piece on Ebay at this time for this pattern in the name of Overton. There is a pattern number in red on the bottom of each piece. There is also a British Registry Mark telling the exact date in brown transfer print on the bottom. Really a super set. George Jones Sons Crescent Faience 8.5" Aesthetic Pitcher Birds and Bloom 1890's
I have for you this evening a beautiful example of Faience pottery that was fired at the kilns of George Jones and Sons around the end of the 19th century. This piece is made of fine grade clays and has been cast into a unique mold design with slender elongated body and bamboo style handle that is in keeping with the Aesthetic Movement decoration of the piece. This piece is decorated in the Aesthetic style popular at the time and has what appears to be cherry blossoms on the branch with birds in flight all in sepia tones with the pattern name of"Birds in Bloom" The rim and handle have been accented with gold gilt.
