Large Antique Arab Pottery Pitcher 1877 English Registry Mark
This auction is for a rare early English earthenware pottery pitcher. The pitcher is decorated with the pictures of a desert and a men riding a camel. It is accented with elaborate trim around the top rim. All decorations are done in blue on a white background under the glaze. The pitcher bares multiple marks at the bottom. One of the marks is the English Registry mark that dates this pitcher to March of 1877. There is also an ARAB mark and a F&E Trade Mark as well as a small cross-like mark with two small dots. I am not familiar with these marks other than the English Registry one and therefore cannot identify the manufacturer of this magnificent. Old piece of earthenware. It stands an impressive 10.5" tall and is about 8.5" wide at its widest point. It is in very good condition for its age. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. ... moreThere is some slight ware of the gilding around the top rim and on the handle. Also, there are some signs of crazing on the inside of the pitcher, but nothing on the outside Please see pictures for more details. Thank you for viewing this auction. Happy bidding!

Antique Fleur-de-lis Pottery Pitcher English French Majolica dk green Victorian
Very interesting looking antique pottery pitcher with a beautiful Fleur-de-Lis pattern. Pretty glaze is a deep gray green. Almost black, with white raised design. I think it is probably English or French, possibly majolica but I'm not sure. No maker's mark and I am guessing at the age-possibly late 1880-1920 but could be later. Chip on bottom, where it doesn't show, 2-3 teeny chips that do show, please see photos. Also tiny spots of beige paintand 2-3 larger spots of beige paint-someone was painting and splattered-I will let the new owner take care of that as I don't want to ruin the glaze. A lot of crazing and crackling. No obvious repairs or cracks. Measures 6 inches high 4 1/2 inch diameter opening 6 3/4 inches across overall Co-ordinates well with"Midnight Race" plate I also have listed currently-see last photo. ... moreThis auction is for the pitcher only. Antique English Pearlware Ceramic enamel decorated pottery milk jug, c1800-1820
Antique English Pearlware Ceramic Polychrome overglaze enamel decorated pottery milk jug with an Oriental lady walking in a garden. On one side, and foliate design on the other. The decoration is in vibrant pink, green, blue and iron red. The pitcher has a sparrow spout and a simple looped handle both are enamel decorated, the handle with an iron red foliate design. The foot is rimmed in blue. c1800-1820. There are no factory or maker's marks but this milk jug is most likely from the Leeds Pottery. CONDITION: Minor glaze wear. No restoration. Measurements: 5 1/2" tall and 5" wide. A little background on Pearlware Josiah Wedgwood has traditionally been given the credit for"creating" what he referred to as"pearl ware. This ware was essentially the same ceramic composition as creamware with the added component of ... morea small quantiry of cobalt. The addition of the cobalt. Gave the pottery a bluish cast to the glaze. Pearlware was used as the base for Prattware, Spatter and Spongeware, Luster, and many transfer-printed wares. Because in some cases, the quantity of cobalt is truly slight, it can be difficult to determine whether or not the piece is pearlware. If you are ever faced with this situation, just turn the piece over and look for the blue pooling; identifiying the cobalt blue glaze over the whitish body is regarded as the single most important diagnostic feature. The earliest forms of Pearlware are dated to around 1775. Please let us know if you have any questions. And. If you are ever in the Wilton, CT area, we would love to have you visit our shop.
