Antique Brown & Mustard Decorated Redware Pitcher; 19th Century Folk Pottery old
Here's a beautiful. 19th century redware pitcher in very good condition! Thick, rugged, and heavy, this piece has an ovoid shape with a wide midsection. It has a gorgeous blend of colors including mustard, brown, and greens. The glaze& oxides were somehow applied in a manner where it didn't adhear in certain places and other parts were not glazed at all, including the bottom. In other areas the glaze is drizzled or running downward. When fired, interesting characteristics were created including mottling and a speckled effect. The unglazed red portions have an original, grungy patina that's the result of past use, places it was kept, and the passage of time. Oddly enough. There's some sort of slip decoration on the front, under the spout, that is difficult to discern. It probably was a name or some sort of writing and part ... moreof a date where a mistake was made and the entire piece was glazed over in this unique manner to cover it up. It looks like a capital letter C with a last name under it, followed by 1874 or 1879, perhaps. The way the piece was glazed as well as wear and tear makes it very difficult to make out. In fact, we didn't really notice the writing until after viewing one of the photos while posting this auction. It's an interesting peak into the history of this old pitcher and perhaps if you are skilled, you may be able to determine what it says under that glaze. Regardless. This is a very attractive piece of pottery that also has decorative incised bands, an applied handle, a charming country-style shape, and of course its very nice coloring. It measures 10 1/4 inches high while the diameter of the bottom is 4 1/8 inches. The opening of the pitcher is 5 1/4 inches including the spout and the widest point in the middle is 7 1/2 inches. It weighs over 4 pounds. We found no cracks or hairlines, only some old pitting on the interior that isn't structurally significant. This auction is for an Antique LARGE Grape and Lattice Design Pottery Stoneware Brown Pitcher. Stands 9 1/2" tall. It has a few glaze flaws as most of these pieces do. But no chips or cracks. The inside looks white on the photos, but it is much more subdued in real life. Weight is 5 lbs when empty. Exact age is unknown, but I am 59, and I remember my grandmother serving iced tea out of this same pitcher. I remember because I couldn't lift it when it was full as a child. Brown Glaze Salt Redware Pottery Hand Craft Pitcher Jug
I am selling for a family member. She has recently moved to a studio apartment from a large home and does not have room or the decor for her late brother's Asian treasures. He was an artist for a major card company whose companion was the Asian buyer for the corresponding luxury department store. The companion also brought back"treasures" for their own collections and the brother's home was decorated entirely Asian. The exception was some local pottery of which he had a small collection. This is a salt glaze type red ware or reddish brown glaze pitcher. It is signed on the bottom but it is very hard to read. Especially as I am unfamiliar with the artist. It appears to say Bimme or Bumme followed by a large flourished H. Next to the H is apparently the year the item with its applied leaf motif on the handle was made, it says ... more81. Below and connected to the H is a stylized flower or leaf. The piece has variations in the color and thickness of the glaze that appear to be intentional, and give the impression of age. It is in good used condition but was apparently used to hold some of his art supplies as there is some blue on the inside bottom. I have not attempted to remove this. It is overall a very appealing and warm looking piece and is around 3 3/4" tall and around 5" wide handle to spout. It would be my guess that it was made by an artist from the Kansas City area. The shorter pitcher has a molded tulip on either side and has spattered brown glaze throughout. It is unmarked, but was probably produced by Bennington. The second pitcher has faceted sides and is covered in a drippy brown glaze with slight luster, especially at the foot. That pitcher is also unmarked. Dimensions: 1: 10" High. 6-1/2" Wide, 6" Deep. 2: 7-3/8" High, 7" Wide, 4-1/2" Deep. Total Weight: 5 lbs. 5 oz. Condition: Both pieces have fine craquelure to glaze. 19th Century Hand Turned Brown Domestic Utilitarian Pottery Jug
Antique Hand-Made Ceramic Jug This is a very old hand'spun' piece of domestic pottery. There is nothing fancy about it at all. There are some inclusions in the pottery. Under the glaze but that is very common with the older, home made pieces. They didn't make them to be pretty-they made them to be functional. Check out the image of the bottom of the pitcher. Up for bid is a wonderfully glazed antique pottery pitcher. I do not know the maker. Condition: There is a chip on the rim inside right above where the handle is attached. See picture 5. There is also a feather crack as shown in picture 6. Crack is 4" long. Pinpoint spots where glaze is worn off. Pitcher is 9.5" tall and 6" across from handle to spout. There are just a few minor nicks that are not detrimental in anyway to the showing of this pitcher. There are no cracks or crazing. Up for auction is a small art pottery pitcher in a chocolate brown glaze with a raised cavalier on either side. The pitcher stands about 5 inches high and 3.5 inches across the base. It is not marked. But I believe it was made by Peters and Reed in Zanesville, Ohio. It is in nice overall condition with some crazing and stilt marks and what appears to be a small repair to the rim near the spout. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Note: this pitcher is late 19th century, so it has nothing at all to do with Nazis. Swastikas are an ancient Hindu and Buddhist symbol of good fortune. If you'll notice, some of the Swastikas turn clockwise and some turn counterclockwise. All of them sit flat side down, Buddhist style. The pitcher is 8 1/4 inches tall by 8 inches wide from spout to handle. No maker's mark. It weighs 3 lbs 9 oz(shipping weight 5 lbs) Condition: Fair. There is a shallow flake inside the spout. Antique Grape Designed Pewter Overlay Chocolate Brown Glazed Pottery Pitcher
A chocolate brown glaze(in the style of Alphonse Cytère) pitcher with pewter grape overlay. Circa 1900. The overlay on these pieces are usually fragile as the overlay was typically affixed with a wax-like adhesive that decays over time. Most overlay failed to survive. This vase has its overlay perfectly intact and the overlay is firm. The overlay does have a signature of G. Lavney. The pictcher is approximately 8-7/8" 22.5 cm) x 5" 12.75 cm) depth at its widest point. The pitcher was modeled by hand and is very balanced stylistically.

This is a very old washbasin pitcher by Lotta. which as I understand it was an American pottery company(but this is just what I have read) from the 1800's. The pitcher measures approx. 10 inches wide at the top to the handle and 10 tall but it is very round. Beautiful brown transferware flower designs with petals falling and edging.
