HOUND HANDLE PITCHER PHILLIP BAGSTER ROCKINGHAM ENGLAND BENNINGTON POTTERY TOBY
Up for auction my oh-so-RARE c1818- 1823 ENGLISH PHILLIPS& BAGSTER? ROCKINGHAM RAISED RELIEF HOUND HANDLE STAG HUNT SCENE diminutive PITCHER. This is a wonderful and very old extremely rare small pitcher with a great look. The pitcher is a rare small size measuring just 3 3/4" to the top of the spout. This early raised relief hunt scene pitcher boasts a hound with collar handle. Several hounds on the pitcher body taking down a large stag and a grape clusters and vine decoration around the pitcher neck. Hound handled pitchers have been popular since the early 1800's. The earliest examples were made in England, and manufactured much later in the United States in Vermont, New Jersey and Ohio when the English potters came overseas to America, bringing their molds with them. The earlier English pieces had a Rockingham glaze over a ... morewhite clay body while the later American pieces were glazed over a yellowish or buff clay body. This particular pitcher is an early English version. As there are a couple tiny pin prick sized areas where the glaze is nicked in the interior(see photos) and the clay is a bright white. I believe this was made by Phillips and Bagster. As I have done a lot of research about this company. They often signed their pieces in the collars of the hound or boar. The hound on the handle does have a collar( most hound handled pitchers do not have collars) and I can see a couple very faint letters on one side of the collar. These are very difficult to see and are glazed over. So not very legible(see photo) I really cannot make out the individual letters, but I see two. The glazed underside is marked with some sort of leaf as well the faint impression of half a stamp.maybe an"M" or a"3" with a diamond shape and round shape(like you might see on old majolica pieces) with a faint"22" Not sure as the stamp is not very legible so I cannot quite decipher it. It is there though and the" leaf" mark is clearly legible. This diminutive pitcher does have some condit

YELLOWARE Stoneware NORTH WIND FACE MILK JUG Pitcher Rockingham Bennington Glaze
DESCRIPTION: This is a yellow ware. Stoneware jug or pitcher with a drip Rockingham or Bennington style brown glaze. It measures 9" tall by 9" wide from the spout tip to handle bend. The glaze on this is stunning and was superbly placed wiping it clear of the face so it can be clearly viewed. The dark brown left in the beard highlights the depth and is a beautiful transition from the more yellow face to the richly mottled body of his paneled, eight sided, octagonal medium size pitcher. Smaller pitchers would be a creamer and larger ones would be a water pitcher. These were meant as milk ewers or imagine this in a month or so filled with your favorite iced beverage out on your deck, camping or outdoor barbeque. This is most likely an American piece of ceramics as the norhtwind face was a popular motif on furniture made in the northeastern ... moreUnited States dating this to the latter part of the 19th century, possible even the early 20th century. Photographs are part of the condition report. There are no cracks, breaks or repairs, but there is an old discolored flake/chip along the bottom foot. It weighs 3 lb. 7 oz. so will be a 6 lb. package with box, bubble wrap and peanuts. SHIPPING& INSURANCE: The Buy It Now price includes free DOMESTIC shipping so if you buy it now. Vintage Rockingham Bennington Brown Glaze Fox Hunt Pitcher from England
This is a vintage Fox Hunt Pitcher made in England. You can see the"Made in England" by removing the music box underneath exposing the false bottom. The color of this piece is what I call Rockinghan/Bennington Brown glaze. On the pitcher's side you will find two hounds and a huntsman on a horse. Plus look at the front view of the pitcher and you will find the word Huntsman on a shop window. On the underside of the pitcher there is a music box installed on a wooden plate. This was intended to shut the music off whenever the pitcher is placed back down. However. For some reason the shutoff pin does not stick down far enough to do it's shutoff job, so the music continues playing until the music box winds down. The music box tune is"Little Brown Jug" The music box is a little rusty from age. I had to use WD40 on it ... moreto get it running again. There is a small defect on the pitcher that I mention in the condition statement. That is that there is a a hairline crack in the glaze on top of its handle. This crack doesn't go all the way through the handle. Its only in the glaze. see photo) This pitcher is 8.25 inches tall and 6 inches in diameter at its base. It is heavy and weighs 2 pounds and 9 ounces. I'm not sure who the maker of the pitcher is, nor its age. My guess would be 1940s to 1950s? The S&H cost for this item is $15.42 by standard Post Package(2-8 days) to all U.S. locations. I ship only to the U.S. Colorado residents need to add an additional 2.9% state sales tax to their total. Visit seller ID postattic to see all my listings. 296-1198)

N ot quite sure-if you know please email me- I'd appreciate it) Beer Barrel Style with Impressed Design This pitcher is in fantastic condition having a barrel shape with impressed design. There are just a few minor nicks that are not detrimental in anyway to the showing of this pitcher. There are no cracks or crazing. The pitcher weighs 3 lbs 12 oz so it will be packed very carefully for shipment. Measurement is not quite 8" H x 5" W at the opening of the pitcher. It is approx. 19" round. Pix#3 shows 2 nicks on the bottom; pix#6 shows 1 on the lip of the spout; pix#7 shows 2 on the piece spanning the spout and. Pix#8 shows nicks and/or missed glazing. I try to capture the imperfections so you are aware but sometimes it would ... morejust be easier to say- it is vintage and of course it has some wear. I like my buyers to know it is not perfect but close to it. I tried looking up what I interpreted the name/company on the label would be but I had no luck in locating. The man that owned this previously said it was his mothers and she never used it; she just had it for show. I believe him since there are no signs of wear on the interior whatsoever. Awesome BENNINGTON ROCKINGHAM FLINT ENAMEL STONEWARE PITCHER Coffee Pot
This is a large Antique BENNINGTON ROCKINGHAM POTTERY PITCHER or COFFEE POT without a lid. This is a great example of early utilitarian ware. It dates from probably around 1850-1880. There were several significant companies that worked with similar glazes. The most prolific being BENNINGTON of Bennington, Vermont that was also part of the infamous Norton Pottery and Stoneware Company. This piece stands about 9 1/2' tall and is in overall good condition considering it's age. There is a small flake on the spout that is picture in photo#4 and the star shaped crack in the bottom pictured in photo# 5 that is stable, and I suspect it has been there for a very long time. The dimensional decorations on this piece are quite wonderful. The glaze was placed on the ware so tat it would drip into the crevasses of the decoration of CRANE BIRDS, ... moreCATTAILS, ACORNS, OAK LEAVES originating as an OAK TREE from the pitcher base. The spout is in the form of a stately RAM'S HEAD. The handle is a SERPENT WRAPPED AROUND a TREE BRANCH. This is quite a hefty and stunning piece. Please, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask me. Shipping is extra via US Standard Mail. I only charge what they do. I pack my boxes using foam board on all four sides and well bubbled. Figure 9-10 lbs in a 12x15x12 box. Please use the USPS calculator not what Ebay says it will be. There estimates are usually wrong. This is an"as is' auction due to the nature of this item. Antique Rockingham Yellow Ware 1800-1849 Brown Earthenware Bowl - Bennington
Antique Rockingham Pottery Antique Rockingham Pottery(circa late 1800's) ~LARGE YELLOW WARE BOWL~ 4& 1/4" tall; 9& 1/4" in diameter across top; about 4" deep. Raised Relief Mold Leaf? Motif. Yellowish under-glaze covered by dripping dark brown glaze. Some history on the Rockingham earthenware or stoneware: Rockingham is highly-fired earthenware or stoneware. Generally with a buff to yellow paste and a brown mottled and streaked glaze, often characterized by patches of the vessel’s body showing through. Rockingham is generally not felt to be a specific ware type; rather simply a type of glaze applied to yellow, buff or(rarely) white-bodied ceramics. Rockingham is typically characterized by relief molded decoration. Rockingham glazed vessels were inexpensive, mass-produced wares of the mid-nineteenth to the early ... moretwentieth centuries, manufactured in both England and North America(Claney 2004:xiii) The original use of the term Rockingham can be traced back to the late eighteenth century in England. Around 1770, the Swinton Pottery developed a rich brown glaze for white earthenware that quickly became popular and eventually came to be known as“Rockingham” glaze(Cox and Cox 1983:108) The famous brown earthenware glaze discovered by the Rockingham pottery was imitated by many potteries and made its way across the Atlantic to be used on many decorative and utilitarian pieces from a variety of U.S. potteries, the most famous of which was at Bennington, Vermont. Good Antique Condition for display: Is chipped on rim(see photos) Excellent display piece for your Yellow Ware Collection! We add new items weekly so please check back often.
